PROVIDING CHRISTMAS Where Christmas HOPE Was Lost Help Keep Knoxville Families In Their Homes This Holiday Season “Together, the Knoxville community is providing thousands of families with Christmas each and every year through our Christmas Programs like Angel Tree and Red Kettles. With a huge collaboration of donations and volunteers, we can assist and provide meals and gifts for families in need every Christmas. Not only are you changing lives, but you’re providing joy, hope and love in a season where those are the definition of Christmas. Thank you Knoxville, let’s keep it up! We knew this past Christmas season would be difficult. We knew we would face challenges with everything that is happening in the world. So, we made adjustments and our generous community stepped up and went the extra mile for those in need in greater Knoxville.
Angel Tree donors were able to shift from collecting tags from trees to purchasing gifts from an online registry. Thanks to them, over 1,500 children and 200 senior citizens were able to open gifts Christmas morning, 2020. You probably heard the sound of our traditional bells less last year. However, our volunteers gave of their time, donating hundreds of hours ringing the bells for us, allowing donors across our communities to show their support to our mission at the physical kettles and through the virtual red kettles. For all of this, we want to say, “Thank You.” Because of you, we will support hundreds of families and individuals in our programs this year.

We will continue to face adversities and uncertainties in the coming year. We are incredibly grateful for the steady support of our generous community! Angel Tree Program We had the privilege to serve thousands of children and their families, and now they will have a house filled with smiles on Christmas. But none of these would have been possible if it wasn’t for the amazing support we received from Knoxville citizens. We do thank all Angel Tree Adopters, Volunteers and Sponsors because, without you, this wouldn’t be possible.”

inside Not about the gifts.
Store shelves empty, container ships unable to unload, freight at an all time stand still, gas prices soaring and tempers at an all time high. Just a few of the additional challenges we are facing this holiday season and, actually, I’m glad. No, I am not crazy or insensitive; I’m just looking at the reality of life and what is really important. Society has become so busy and self absorbed; we have lost vision of what is truly important. We no longer see each other. We don’t connect. There is no time to sit and visit and enjoy the moment of friendship. We have lost the ability to have relationships with one another. Instead, we are stressed over the “perfect gift” and having to make appearances to check the holiday box. We have forgotten how to love our neighbor, and we have no idea who our neighbor is. How many times have you looked at a gift you received and forgotten who gave it to you? I know I have. But, I have not ever forgotten the moments shared. This season remember what life is about. Take a moment to share a meal or cup of tea. Go see someone that you have been meaning to see. Realize that person on the corner is your neighbor, so is the person you pass in the store, and you may be the only kind face they see today...Take time to actually see people this year. The greatest gift you can give is yourself. _

Let’s make the house smell like
It’s finally the time I wait for all year long! Here’s the thing, every year I always make these grand plans in my head to do all my favorite holiday things. Like all of them.
Cut down the family tree, decorate the tree, make sugar cookies, decorate the house, make gingerbread houses from scratch, send out Christmas cookies to everyone, find the best gifts, watch ALL the Christmas movies, go for a snowy sleigh ride, make hot cocoa with giant marshmallows and loads of whipped cream, go ice skating, make the most grand Christmas dinner – with the table set all cute and festive. The idea is pretty much just to have the perfect Christmas season. Here ‘s the reality though, I maybe do one or two of those things and then Christmas comes and goes, and I am wicked sad it’s over because I didn’t even get to cross off half the things on my list. It honestly happens every year.
So this year, I am just accepting the fact that I will never get all those things done. Especially with how busy I am right now, it’s just not possible. Instead, to take the edge off the business of the season, I will at least make it smell like Christmas cheer! So let’s get started with this crazy easy, holiday potpourri that simmers on the stove all day long. Don’t think I am all old and lame trying to tell you guys to make some homemade potpourri, I promise you will love this. Just trying to make the house smell like Christmas – like home. If you’re a candle person, you’ll love this potpourri. The best part is, you can really use whatever you have on hand- like all those cranberries from the Vodka recipe on page 34. The must-
haves in my opinion are cinnamon, citrus, ginger and vanilla. Nothing makes it feel more like the holidays than those smells. So good. I have seen the idea of potpourri that simmers on the stove all over the place lately, and I am so glad I finally tried it, and especially that I tried it on a cold, dreary weekend. I just let this simmer all day long, adding more water as needed, and every person that walked through the house said, “Wow, it smells so good in here, like Christmas!” Trust me, if you are having guests over, this is the perfect thing to have simmering away on the stove. So try it at Thanksgiving or a dreary weekend. It’s a great easy fix that makes people feel warm, cozy and welcomed! Jeez, I am so cheesy... It’s the holidays, they do that too me.

www.halfbakedharvest.com Ingredients
Instructions
• 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries • 3 tangerines halved • 3 whole cinnamon sticks • 2 star anise gives a strong black licorice smell. (optional) • 1 teaspoon whole cloves • 1 inch piece fresh ginger • 1 tablespoon vanilla bean + 1 vanilla extract • 1 small branch fresh pine • 1 cup apple cider pomegranate or cranberry juice • water
Combine all the ingredients in a medium size sauce pot. Fill the pot with water until it reaches 3/4 the way full. Place the pot on the stove and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer, adding more water as needed. I let mine simmer for close to 4 hours and then let it cool over night and simmer again the next day. Just be sure to keep adding more water.

Holiday decorating in
By Deborah Bitton hipandhumblestyle.com
Each year when planning my Christmas decor, I like to start with a theme, so to speak. I don’t want to spend a lot so I go through the items I currently have, then see how I can incorporate it into a slightly new look. Really, it’s all about thinking outside the box and looking at your decor in a whole new way. Decorating for Christmas can be expensive and on top of buying gifts kinda it can put a strain on your budget. So I like to peruse Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, think about what I already have and how I can use it differently such as switch out rooms, recreate unique color combinations etc..
This year I wanted a very naturals rustic look emphasizing on fresh greenery. I wanted it to look effortless and festive. I used a combination of greenery garland from Lynch Creek Farms, and the rest I foraged for in the woods near my home.
Using a few small nails in the trim, I wired the garland around the door way. Then created easy urn arrangements by layering in the various greens around some birch sticks. Pinecones and berries finished it off. hushh magazine | www.hushh.club
My theme for inside was to focus mostly on greenery. Adding natural elements like berries and pine cones gave more texture. I decided to keep things neutral this year using white and black to coordinate and pop against all the greenery. Gold accents are added in various places to add some shimmer and elegance. To create this look I used faux garland and stems to create an elegant and chic display. Another element I really focused on was the ambiance of warm lighting with battery operated candles and twinkling lights. I have them all set on timers so they come on at the perfect time, and I love how cozy it makes our home feel.

GREAT ROOM Since our main level is open concept, it’s important for me to keep things consistent and more simple. Otherwise it will look too messy and cluttered. I usually pinpoint anchor spots, like the stairway, mantel and coffee table, then let the tree be the main focus. The ornaments are simple and in line with the color scheme. I added the black ornament balls of various sizes this year and love the effect they gave the flocked tree. This year we put our main tree in a box and I love how it looks so unique and grand.
STAIRWAY The stairway has always been my favorite place to decorate. I added beautiful greenery with twinkling lights and some picks of eucalyptus and berries. A small forest of flocked naked trees are so sweet all lit up on the landing. This area can be seen from all areas of the house and they add more twinkle and shine.
For the sofa and coffee tables, I used wood vessels to create arrangements with greenery and a little sparkle with some vintage gold ornaments.
Visit our new showroom today! TABLE SCAPE This simple table scape falls in line with the rest of the theme using greenery, white and pretty black accents.

KITCHEN In the kitchen, I brought in pretty greenery for a whimsical look and added dimension with a big plaid ribbon on the chairs. This cute hoop wreath over the stove was an easy DIY.
DECOR
Luckily you can find cute little Santa mugs for affordable prices, and what a cute way to add some Holiday fun?! This is a Santa Espresso Mug from Hobby Lobby for $3.99.
This cute hot chocolate tray was so easy to put together and serves as pretty decor, too. I layered hot cocoa fixings in cute jars and added my Santa mugs and some pretty greenery. Aren’t these snowflake marshmallows cute?
BEDROOM Do you decorate your bedroom for Christmas? I never really used to; however, now that our bedroom is on the main floor and visible, I wanted to carry the decor and festive vibes into our bedroom. This year I wanted a super cozy and festive bedroom that also had a warm winter feel. The textured layers and monochromatic color scheme along with the twinkling lights gave this room just the vibe I was wishing for.
I also wanted a gingerbread house to add some “Home Sweet Home” vibes to the space. I kept it simple with white icing and added rosemary to dress it up. It’s sitting on a wood cake stand, and I sprinkled some faux snow around the base.
There are a few elements you need to create a cozy Christmas bedroom. I never really liked a lot of clutter in the bedroom, so I decided to create a more simple look instead of adding a bunch of decor. I wanted it to feel inviting and spa-like so we have a place to retreat and relax. Adding Christmas decor can be tricky if you don’t want it to look too busy. Here are my tips to accomplish this look.
To warm up the frosted greenery, I complimented it all with soft, warm woods: the frame of the mirror, wood vases and bottle brush trees. These were the perfect accents to dress up the mantel.
LAYERED TEXTURES Layering a variety of textiles and cozy pillows is one way to get the warm inviting, relaxing look. Linen with cable knit and cotton with a mix of pillows and wood tones all contribute to the texture. The quilt is velvet, then I folded a linen duvet and laid a knit blanket to create the fluffy bed style. A soft patterned rug adds warmth and ties in all the textures together.
MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEME Keeping everything in the same color pallet creates a soothing tone. A variety of creams, taupes, warm gray and soft beige all work together to keep things soft and realizing. The pattern in the rug pulls all the colors together and completes the look.
WINTERY WHITE GREENERY Frosted stems, wreaths and garland keep things soft but festive looking. I hung a flocked wreath over the bed and tied the two spaces together by hanging two on the opposite fireplace wall around the light sconces. It looks so pretty to see the frosted greens reflect in the mirror.
TWINKLE LIGHTS AND SPARKLE Battery operated candles, twinkle lights and vintage glittered ornaments give a little sparkle and warmth. I love how cozy the room feels at night with the glow of the lights and fire in the fireplace.
It’s amazing the cozy vibes all these elements add to the room, and I’m going to be sad when it’s time to take it all down. With the craziness of the season, I think it’s important to create a haven to relax and unwind.

Recipe & photos from www.persnicketyplates.com
Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Cookies are a simple, from-scratch, shortbread cookie dipped in dark chocolate that’s perfect for dunking in milk, coffee, hot chocolate… Santa won’t be disappointed with these shortbread Christmas cookies! I love making shortbread because it’s easy to make, easy to roll out, and they keep their shape nicely when you cut them out. This chocolate dipped shortbread cookie recipe only has 5 ingredients – 7 if you include the chocolate & sprinkles – and is so easy. It’s light and buttery and the perfect contrast with the dark chocolate. I’ve spent years looking for the perfect sugar cookie recipe for rolling out and using cookie cutters only to be disappointed each time. Then, I realize I could use shortbread and be much happier. This shortbread recipe only has five ingredients, rolls out easily, and holds its shape when you make cut-outs. The flavor is mild and buttery and perfect. It gets even better when you dip a portion in dark chocolate and add some festive holiday sprinkles. INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until just combined, then mix in vanilla. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and salt then add it to the butter mixture. Mix on low speed until ingredients start to form a solid dough. This will take quite a few minutes to come together. Once a dough has formed, take out of bowl and place on a lightly floured surface. Shape into a flat disk, wrap in plastic, and chill in fridge for 30 minutes. Use a rolling pin to roll dough into approximately 1/2” thick rectangle. Then use a sharp knife to cut dough into 1” wide rectangles or use cookie cutters to make shapes. Place cookies on prepared baking and bake for 12-15 minutes or until edges are just brown. Once cookies are completely cooled, place chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir and continue to heat for 15 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. Dunk half of each cookie into the chocolate and sprinkle with your favorite topping. Place on a piece of wax paper until completely cooled.
Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Cookie INGREDIENTS 1 cup Sugar – granulated white sugar 3/4 lb Butter – unsalted, at room temperature 1 tspn Vanilla Extract – it’s pricey, but use real vanilla extract (not imitation), if you can 3 1/2 cups Flour – all purpose white flour 1/4 tspn Salt 1 cup Chocolate – Ghirardelli baking chips or whatever chocolate cips or chopped chocolate you have on hand 1 tspn Coconut Oil – to thin the chocolate (optional)
TIPS TO MAKE THESE CHOCOLATE DIPPED SHORTBREAD COOKIES A SUCCESS: After you add the flour to the creamed butter, it’s going to take quite a few minutes for the dough to come together. Be patient, it will fully come together into a soft dough.
TOOLS TO HELP YOU MAKE THESE COOKIES:
Williams Sonoma The Grinch™ Christmas Cookie Cutter 22-Piece Set $29.99 www.williams-sonoma.com
Don’t forget to chill your dough before you roll it out. It will make it much easier to work with. You can roll out the dough into a rectangle and simply make 1” bars, or roll it out and use your favorite cookie cutters. I had a snowman on hand so I did half and half – rectangles and snowmen. I add approximately 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to the chocolate when melting it. It helps to slightly thin it and make the chocolate smooth.

This Holiday Season
Now more than ever, your local community needs you. It's no secret that COVID-19 related closures and restrictions have impacted our country's many small businesses in numerous challenging ways. The global pandemic has thrown one too many hurdles in the path of nearly every small business owner, constantly testing their ability to profitably adjust their business model and keep their passion alive month after month. With the holiday season coming into full swing, it's more important than ever to keep our small businesses top of mind when tackling our shopping lists. Sure, every television channel or social media you flip through right now is filled with catchy holiday advertisements from the chain stores, promising the biggest and best sales of the season. With the immense rise of online shopping (conglomerate Amazon) has helped us loose sight of those right here in our back doors.
One of our favorite local shops is the wonderful Me&Co! Just look at the HAND-PAINTED ORNAMENTS!!! $28.00, These adorable hand-painted ornaments and more custom gift and art work can be found at Me and Co Gift Shop 7240 Kingston Pike #116, Knoxville, TN 37919

While there's no arguing that online shopping can be convenient, what "warm and fuzzy" feeling do you get from that type of transaction? Does easiness trump the emotional benefits you'd feel from contributing to someone's livelihood during a terribly trying time by shopping local? The ability we all have to support our hometown's brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins, neighbors, friends — all the people who make our
community a wonderful place to live — will always be worth the collective time and effort in our book. And here's why. Shopping local helps grow your community's economy. According to the American Independent Business Alliance (AIBA), when you shop local, approximately 48% of the cost of your purchase is recirculated back into the local economy. When you shop at a chain store, that number drops to less than 14%. Instead of taking your hard-earned dollars to a billion-dollar chain store, think about how beneficial it would be to invest them in your local economy and help support a small business owner’s family. We can all agree that every dollar helps, especially around Christmas time during an ongoing pandemic. Shopping local gives your community’s creatives much-needed exposure. Our small community is full of incredibly talented artists who can’t afford shop space until their business takes off, leading them to partner with local businesses to sell their products at a storefront. So when you shop local, you give those craftspeople the exposure and funding they need to grow their business. Picture giving your mom the gift of a handmade wreath, piece of jewelry, or painting she’s always talked about this Christmas. She’ll feel extra
special knowing you got her something personalized that just can’t be found anywhere else! Shopping local means healthier and more tasty food options. Did you know that fruits and vegetables contain the most nutrition when they are ripe? According to Greenopedia, a healthy food blog, this means that by the time they travel across the country to your table, they’re depleted of the key nutrients they once had if bought at peak freshness from a local farmers market or supermarket. When you shop and eat locally, you’re getting a healthier and tastier version of the same product found at a chain store. Better believe your belly will thank you at next dinner when you’re feasting on fresh, roasted vegetables you bought from the farm up the road. Or look for restaurants that use local meats & produce, like Harvest. Shopping local means you get personalized service and products. Good customer service can be hard to find at the big chain stores during the holidays due to retail employees often being stretched too thin in their work schedules. Some of the biggest perks of shopping local are the personalized customer service and the unique, handcrafted items you come across. Small
business owners don’t build their own business from scratch just for kicks - they do it because they are passionate about keeping their products and services exclusive to their community. Many times, small business owners are able to craft and personalize a product just for you - a service that really comes in handy around the holiday season when you’re searching for one-of-a-kind gifts for the special people in your life (cue mom’s face when she sees her handmade wreath). Shopping local means giving back to charities in your community. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) conducted a survey a couple years ago and found that 75 percent of small business owners donate some portion of their profits — about six percent on average — to charitable organizations each year. Many times, those charities are found right in your community. So every time you shop local, a portion of your dollars may also be donated to a local charity, especially helpful during the ongoing pandemic. Shopping local delivers the best customer service. When you buy local, you experience the perk of seeing your salesperson faceto-face, to help you with future orders or to customize an order you’ve already
placed with them. With many chain stores, you won’t get that level of personalized, tailored-to-you service. You may be directed to an online portal or phone recording, warning you that hold times are “longer than usual,” which is enough to make you want to throw your phone at the wall. And you don’t need that kind of stress during the holidays. In addition, many local business owners have personal connections between each other, allowing them to deliver you exclusive deals and recommendations for other needs you may have. And who doesn’t love a good deal around the holidays when money might be tight? Put your money where your home is. If all of these convincing points weren’t enough to persuade you to shop local not only during the holiday season but year ‘round, consider this: Put your money where your home is. Whatever you consider to be “home” - a cozy one bedroom apartment, mom and dad’s guesthouse, or the place you spent years saving up for and finally own - put your money there. You live in a community full of hidden gems that need your support now more than ever. Help grow your community by shopping local and give the hard-working small business owners in your town the opportunity to thrive beyond the pandemic.

Whether you’re traveling to grandma’s house or just across town, here are some helpful items to pack or just keep in your car at all times. • Driver’s License -Duh, I know! But, just in case • Car Registration and Insurance Information • Extra Car Key…not on the same key ring • Phone Number(s) for Roadside Assistance • Spare Tire…with a tire jack and tools • Water Resistant Flashlight- coincidental that car trouble always happens at night, in the rain?? • Wiper Fluid, nobody likes a bugged out windshield • Portable Gas Container…great peace of mind when the next gas station isn’t for a long time! And don’t forget to these to keep you safe from snow and ice. • Ice Scraper…not fun doing this by hand! • Shovel • Tire Chains - if needed in your area Besides these road trip basics, whether your trip is long or short, solo or as a family, you’ll want to also have these things in the car. • Car Phone Chargers • Power Inverter with AC outlets and USB ports • Hands-Free Phone Mount • Portable Charger • Garbage Bag • Roll of Toilet Paper…not all rest stops are created equal • Hand Sanitizer

• Body/Baby Wipes • Umbrella
Let’s switch gears (couldn’t help myself!) away from the car and think about you and the other people on this road trip.
Keeping everyone in the car happy and relaxed is so important! Snacks, entertainment, and interesting sights won’t be of much help if you’re not comfortable. So, be sure to stock the car with these things you need for a road trip. • Blanket or Sleeping Bag • Travel Pillow • Sunglasses • Reusable Water Bottle • Water (cheaper to carry with you than buy on the road) • Pain Reliever…headache, body ache, etc. • Chapstick • Hand Lotion • Towel(s)…sudden rainstorm, someone actually jumps in a lake, etc. • Mints and/or Gum • Snacks and/or sandwiches From iSpy to the License Plate game to hightech gear and gadgets, take your road trip entertainment as seriously as things to pack for a road trip! It can be an all-out sanity saver, especially for families with kids. Unless you have satellite radio, you can almost bet you’ll lose a clear radio signal at least once on your drive. What’s more, you’re likely to go through stretches where only a couple of stations come through and the chances of them playing all your favorite songs are slim to forget about it.
This means it’s all about playlists! You’ll want to make sure there’s a variety of music that’ll keep the whole car happy. Amazon Music and Spotify give you access to millions of songs that can be grouped into playlists and downloaded onto your device so you can listen without an Internet connection and/or save data from the road. Plus, both offer free trials, free plans, and even super cheap promotions for premium so you can test them out before your trip. Don’t want to bother the whole car with whatever you’re listening to? Bring headphones and a splitter to share your music, podcast, or audiobook with only those who want it. And, no matter what you’re listening to take it with you with one of these portable speakers And, whether you want to read in the car, around the campfire, or in your hotel room, save space in the car with a Kindle or download the Kindle App to any device. You can purchase a few books or try Kindle Unlimited free. Of course, road trip must-haves aren’t all electronic. Non-electronic options are great for all-important laughs, memories, and bonding, not to mention how relaxing it can be to disconnect for a while! Consider these group and family activities to make the time on those long stretches of road fly! • Loaded Questions…for family, friends, and • Scavenger Hunt • Mad Libs • Travel Journals and Coloring

Did somebody say
D
No... it’s not what I thought either, a story for another time. Dirty Santa is actually a popular Holiday present swapping game that has gone by several names but the object is still the same. Dirty Santa is a gift exchange game that concentrates on the game itself rather than the present, where “dirty” implies the stealing involved.
Stealing you say? That’s not very Santa like, I know! Unlike Secret Santa where participants get to know who the receiver will be beforehand, you will never know who will end up with your gift with this game. Sound fun? Want to learn how to play? Well whether it’s played by family, friends or at work, this is a great game people from all ages can play! Let’s begin! 1. You should have at least 5 participants to start the game (Otherwise it’s not fun). 2. Predetermine the price range of gifts to be exchanged such as “around $10”, “under $20”, “above $25”, and so on. 3. Every participant must wrap the gift and place it at a central location. *No marking or label is allowed, and no one should know the owner of a gift except the owner himself!” 4. Count the number of participants (let’s say we have 8 participants), then write down numbers 1–8 and on different small papers (our FREE printable will do that for you) and put them inside a hat or bowl.
32
hushh magazine | www.hushh.club
5. Each participant draws a paper from the hat or bowl to determine the playing order of the participants
6. The participants who drew number 1 will have to pick a gift and unwrap it. *Participants are allowed to gently shake, touch or listen to all the gifts to inspect them before unwrapping. 7. The participant who drew number 2 can choose to unwrap a new gift OR steal the unwrapped gifts from number 1. 8. The fashion continues such that number 3 can steal from number 1&2 and number 8 can steals from player 1 to 7. 9. Whenever a participant’s gift is stolen, he/ she shall choose to unwrap a new gift or steal from someone else. Exception: During the first round of stealing where number 2 decides to steal from number 1, number 1 cannot steal back from number 2 and can only unwrap a new gift. 10. You cannot steal a gift from the person who has previously stolen from you. (Too bad for you !) 11. A gift can only be stolen 3 times. 12. To be fair to player number 1 (so that he’s not left out), after everyone has their turn, participant number 1 gets to choose whether to keep his gift or steal from anyone else. (Remember rule number 10 & 11).
13. The game ends when number 1 decides to keep his gift or after all the stealing is complete. It’s always fun to add something new to the game especially if you have been playing the same rules for many years. Try out the fun variations below! • Have a Theme — Have everyone buy from the same store or getting the same gift category such as ornament gifts, re-gifts from home, DIY gifts or boardgames. • Head or Tail — Let a coin to decide whether to keep a gift or steal a gift! Head for keeping, tail for stealing! • Keep it secret — All the gifts are wrapped until the end of the game. If you want some great printables, visit our website at hushh.club/dirtysanta

Fresh Cranberry Vodka Spritzers with Recipe & photos from the Wander Lust Kitchen
If you’ve never tried a fresh cranberry vodka cocktail, here’s your chance! All you need is a bag of cranberries, a bottle of vodka, and a blender. For this recipe I’ve added homemade rosemary simple syrup to create a festive holiday cocktail! Don’t hate me, but I wasn’t even going to share this vodka cranberry recipe with you. But here’s what’s in the cranberry drink: fresh (homemade!) cranberry juice, freshly infused cranberry vodka, rosemary simple syrup, and a touch of sparkling water.
I just love this combination of tart cranberries and fragrant rosemary. It’s absolutely perfect for the holidays! This works best if you plan ahead by starting this cranberry vodka recipe the night before. You begin by tossing some fresh cranberries and water in a blender and pulverizing them. I left this mixture in the fridge overnight for maximum infusion, but I bet you could get away with less time than that if you’re in an incredible rush.
40
hushh magazine | www.hushh.club
Pour this mixture through a fine mesh strainer and collect the juice — you should have two cups. Return all that pulpy goodness to the blender and pour in a cup of vodka. Blend it again, then strain the vodka from the pulp (no need to wait this time – alcohol is an excellent flavor extractor!). To make the rosemary simple syrup, just combine some sugar, water, and rosemary sprigs in a little pot and boil a minute or two until the sugar is dissolved.
Mix the juice, infused vodka, and rosemary syrup together, then divide it into icefilled rocks glasses and top with sparkling water, keep the elements separate and if you’d rather prepare drinks one at a time. This cranberry rosemary cocktail recipe fills three 8.5-ounce hermetic flasks, which are incidentally super gorgeous and fun to bring to a party. This vodka cranberry cocktail would also make a lovely gift — just look how pretty the bottles are with some simple twine and a sprig of rosemary!
INGREDIENTS 4 cups fresh cranberries, plus more for garnish 1 cup vodka 1/2 cup white sugar 6 sprigs rosemary, plus more for garnish 8 ounce sparkling water 4 cups ice INSTRUCTIONS Place the cranberries in the pitcher of a blender along with two cups of water. Blend on high until completely pureed with no large chunks remaining. Refrigerate overnight to infuse. Strain the liquid from the cranberry mixture; you should collect two cups of juice. Meanwhile, place 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 6 sprigs of fresh rosemary in a small saucepan set over medium heat. Bring to a boil; boil until sugar has dissolved. Turn off heat and
allow to cool. Remove rosemary sprigs and discard. Return the pulp to the blender pitcher along with the cup of vodka. Blend well, strain, and mix the vodka with the collected juice to make three cups of liquid. Stir in the cooled rosemary syrup. Divide the ice into eight 8-ounce rocks glasses (1/2 cup each). Top each glass with just shy of a 1/4 cup of the cranberry mix (3 and 3/4 ounces). Top each glass with two ounces of sparkling water. Stir gently, garnish with fresh cranberries and rosemary sprigs.
Notes If you prefer to play bartender, you may keep each of the elements separate (cranberry juice, cranberry vodka, rosemary syrup) and mix up the drinks as needed. For each drink, use 2 ounces cranberry juice, 1 ounce cranberry vodka, 3/4 ounce rosemary syrup, and 1 ounce sparkling water.
