Launched in 2017, The KNOW Book + Tribe began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Tribe around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Book + Tribe has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada. Today, we are excited to welcome the dynamic women of the Triangle into our KNOW Tribe. The women featured in this book have been vetted against our high standards. I am proud to say that each and every woman featured is filled with integrity, vision, and grace. Welcome to KNOW Raleigh!

KATIE SHELTON Katie Shelton is the General Counsel and HR Director for Mako Medical Laboratories in Raleigh, NC. A North Carolinian by choice, she is a Syracuse, NY native who has loved the opportunity to give back to the community she has made home over the past seven years. CARA HYLTON Cara Hylton co-founded ORO; a fun, chic, and casual restaurant in Downtown Raleigh, in 2012 with her husband, Chris. Angie Tucker and Christin Kubasko are the creators and owners of Southern Sugar Bakery. Both graduates of Meredith College (Angie ’02 and Christin ’10) and former high school counselors, Christin began her cookie decorating journey in 2010, and Angie joined the fun in 2012! After becoming a licensed home-based bakery in North Carolina, they worked after school in Angie’s kitchen in Raleigh baking and creating custom cookies. In a three-year span, they saw their little cookie business become more than just a hobby, and balancing their full time counseling jobs and the bakery became impossible to manage. After much prayer and consideration, they decided to quit their school counseling jobs in 2015, and began operating Southern Sugar Bakery as a full-time venture in a new commercial kitchen space. GRETTA NANCE Gretta Nance spent the majority of her childhood outdoors, catching bugs. This might seem surprising for someone so prominent in the field of Plastic Surgery and MedSpa aesthetics—but when you find out she was raised by a couple of Biologists it starts to make sense. Luckily, Gretta never lost that adventurous spirit. She moved to England when most of her friends were buying houses, got married on national television, beat skin cancer, worked for the Department of Corrections, and

AMITY WHALEN Amity Whalen, founder of Carolina Barre & Core, opened the doors to the Charlotte based studio on July 15, 2013. It is here that the foundation was laid for a challenging fitness studio that was deeply rooted in creating community and support. This concept was carried over to the North Raleigh Studio at Lafayette Village in 2016 when Amity and her family relocated for her husband Duncan’s job. ELAINE MARSHALL NORTH CAROLINA SECRETARY OF STATE In 1996, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall became the first woman elected to statewide, executive branch office in North Carolina. She previously served in the NC Senate. Secretary Marshall has pioneered e-commerce in government, protected investors and intellectual property owners, and promoted financial capital formation in North Carolina. She has received numerous awards for leadership in technology, government innovation, and women’s leadership.
