Launched in 2017, The KNOW Book + Tribe began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women out from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Tribe around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Book + Tribe has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

After completing hair school in 2003 she craved to purchase every salon she ever worked at! BUSINESS Megan’s life has gone to the dogs. Out of her desire to drive change in the dog care and training industry, she founded dogma training. It consists of two behaviour and education centres, and dogma Academy, which offered the first of its kind dog training apprenticeship in Canada. Dogma helps dogs be successful in our families and busy human world. It leads the industry through its standards, programs and promise that every decision made ensures the well-being of each dog in their care. A mentor and active volunteer, Megan is on The Association of Professional Dog Trainers Board and was the first Canadian to be Chair in 2018. She is also the President of The Guinniss Foundation; named after dogma’s canine co-founder to help terminally ill pets. Tasha operates Fishman’s Personal Care Cleaners with her husband Sheldon who’s family founded the company in 1945. In this historically toxic industry, carcinogenic solvents and environmental pollutants are still the norm. Impacted by generations of cancer in their family, they had a deep desire to find a new and non-toxic way of conducting business. They took a leap of faith into uncharted territory and have become the only %100 solvent free wet cleaner in Calgary and the largest in Canada. Tasha describes the ‘Wet Cleaning’ movement similar to the Organic Food Movement. She understands that people want to ingest and be surrounded by clean and safe products and that consumers are savvy enough to look for them. Last year they won a global nomination for best practices and placed 18th overall in the world! This year they plan to win and present their new repurposed energy technologies in Frankfurt.

Never stop dreaming! After giving a shot in Banking, Family Law and few other professional endeavors in between Inga moved from Lithuania to Canada with her husband and then a two and four year olds back in 2012. Six years later still no professional environment really ‘clicked’ as The One. In the meantime, placing 1st at the Bikini Fitness competition in Calgary and then again in Alberta in 2018 made her realize that while going through the hell of getting ready for the stage she really enjoyed baking and appreciation of highest quality desserts. That being said, Inga quit her job so she could follow her childhood dream. KATHY LE CTV Kathy Le is an award winning journalist, receiving the Spirit of NAIT alumni award for achieving excellence in her industry. She has also been nominated multiple times for the Radio Television Digital News Association award. Some of Le’s notable pieces of work include an investigative documentary she produced where she uncovered exclusive documents unveiling the shocking state of private and licensed child care in Alberta. Le’s mission as a journalist is to tell stories that will make a difference in the world. Outside of work, Le is a proud Rotarian and has volunteered for countless charities in Calgary. She also sits on the Rotary Heritage Park International Committee and is involved with projects around the world. Recently, she had the opportunity to travel to Puerto Vallarta to take part in on-going school-centered programs that help some of the poorest children get an education. Singer/songwriter, Valerie Aimee has been writing music since the age of 12, accumulating over 80,000 fans and followers on her social media accounts from posting videos of original songs and covers. She has an established unique sound, that compliments her acoustic singer/ songwriter artistry. Valerie was scouted by Carnival Cruise Lines and has spent two years travelling the globe, while also completing her Bachelors of Commerce degree. Recently, she debuted her first song “Ocean” on all music platforms, which generated over 150,000 streams on Spotify while also accepting the position, VP of Marketing at In-Houze Productions. Valerie’s creativity and passion is the foundation for both her music and business careers.

Shiva Jahanshah is the President and Founder of Python Productions and The creator, Executive Producer and Host of “Style in the City”; which airs on both Global Calgary and City TV Calgary. Shiva’s most recent work highlights local talent in fashion and style. The award winning television reporter and producer is also passionate about lending a voice to people living on the margins, bringing awareness to critical social issues like homelessness, gangs and domestic violence. Her documentary “Homeless in Calgary” was honored with a prestigious AMPIA award. In 2011 Shiva was honored with SAIT’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Shiva is also the CFO of Python X-Press Ltd. a Construction Transportation company which she runs with her husband Sarwat Sarhosh. The power couple, aka “Mr and Mrs Python”, also founded a residential construction company “Urban Lux Homes”. Kristal is a wife, mother of two, entrepreneur and a woman on a mission to raise awareness for babies and children born with birth abnormalities. In 2017, when she was pregnant with their son Brady, she found out he would be born with a limb difference on his right hand. After navigating one of the most emotional experiences of her life, she’s turning it into a way to help and provide support for others. She uses social media as her platform to tell their family’s story and create a community of support for other families like hers. Through her entrepreneurial spirit, she has partnered with local businesses to create products and services in support of raising funds for genetics research for babies and children born with birth abnormalities. Kristal’s personal Mantra is: All different. All the Same. We need to embrace our differences and find comfort in our similarities.

RAMAN SAWHNEY APAR INITIATIVE
Raman Sawhney is a Reservoir Engineer, EIT and Project Manager at Fracture Modeling Inc. (FRACMOD). After graduating from Queen’s University in 2017, she began working in the energy sector in Calgary and Albania on the largest onshore oilfield in continental Europe. She founded the non-profit organization Apar Initiative, with a mission to empower young women to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. She continues this advocacy for women and youth in the community as Miss Calgary 2019. Raman enjoys volunteering her time as the Acumen Manager with Young Women in Energy, Engineers without Borders, and she is a part of the “NEXT” leadership development program with the United Way, Calgary and Area. Her passion for philanthropy and efforts to educate, innovate, and inspire allow her to invest in the community while continuing to be a life-long learner and entrepreneur.

Making Changes Association is a vibrant organization supporting women and teenage girls to build confidence and skills so that they can participate more fully in the community. Empowerment is embedded within the values and principles of their programs. They fulfill their goals of empowering women and girls by providing programs to enable them to enter the workforce or pursue their education and become self-sufficient. The ‘Walk-In-Closet’ and ‘My Best Friend’s Closet’ offers image consultations and no cost appropriate clothing clients seeking employment or attending school. Their Employment readiness program is an empowerment process for immigrant women, aiming to increase their personal power through participation so that they can take action to improve their circumstances. Their Women In Technology program is a 6-month full time integrated skills training program for women teaching web development for careers in IT.

SARAH CORMIER SIDS CALGARY SOCIETY | QUINN’S LEGACY Sarah Cormier is the chair for SIDS Calgary Society and Vice President of Quinn’s Legacy Run Society. After the loss of their daughter Quinn at 4 months old, Sarah and her husband Lee became actively involved in creating supports for other grieving families in Alberta. The lack of financial support was incredibly shocking, due to the termination of parental benefits after the death of an infant. Sarah approached SIDS Calgary in 2015 to ask for their help in spreading awareness. In 2016 she became the chair of SIDS Calgary Society and currently co-hosts events in honour these babies, educating the public and advocating for resources. She created a motion, with help from her MP, which is currently in the House of Commons in Ottawa. LILY AHONEN & MARIGOLD MIOC MARIGOLD’S HEART GARDEN
Lily Ahonen (2019 National Canadian Ms. Calgary) and Marigold Mioc (2019 National Canadian Young Calgary) are a mother daughter team who enjoy giving back to the community. They operate Marigold’s Heart Garden, making and selling headbands to raise money for various charitable endeavors. Marigold is 10 years old and is an Ambassador for One Girl International. She is a 2019 Diana Award holder as well as a Youth Ambassador for hundrED, an educational organization based in Helsinki. She regularly gives motivational speeches at various events and facilitates leadership classes for youth. Lily is a self-employed Nurse and Medical Aesthetician. She is an Ambassador for Gems for Gems and a Sustainer Member of the Junior League of Calgary. Both are involved with Patti Falconer Agency. They volunteer with Engineers Without Borders and Calgary Immigrant Support Society, among others. They plan to start their own non-profit organization in the near future.

Bina Kamath is the Calgary Executive Director for Women in Leadership Foundation since 2017. She has held various positions of responsibility in the HR department and currently with CNRL as a HR Leader. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and HR and diplomas in Computer Science and Communications. She is a member of WEKH (Women Entrepreneur Knowledge Hub) community of practice which is a Government of Canada funded initiative. Bina also loves to travel, paint, and solve logic puzzles in her spare time. She also volunteers as a mentor and communications coach for profit and non-profit foundations. Bina is passionate about empowering women to achieve personal and professional growth and is currently working on developing a mentorship program in an effort to reach remote rural communities.
