A worsted spinning mill, Meridian is a leader in domestic hand-knitting and weaving yarn production with specialties in dyeing and novelty spinning. The company is the leading specialty yarn and fiber wet processing operation in the US. The company’s two plants based in North Carolina are specialized with the most advanced dyeing and spinning technologies. The mill serves distinct textile markets, including home furnishings and upholstery, apparel, industrial, craft yarn, and even the military. Meridian-produced yarns can be found in countless products, from sofas to window coverings, sweaters to socks, buffing pads to automotive interiors and much more. Ranch-to-needles ethically sourced wool

THE STORY OF SHANIKO WOOL CO As we set out to create High Desert, esteemed rancher Jeanne Carver, of the historic Imperial Stock Ranch, and now her newly launched Shaniko Wool Company, was also looking for an American brand to join forces with and use Shaniko’s certified Responsible Wool Standard (RWS)* wool bounty. Located roughly 120 miles east of our Vancouver, Washington home base, in north-central Oregon’s high desert, Shaniko Wool Company is committed to producing fully traceable and sustainable wool, with an emphasis on honoring the land, water, and animals. Carver’s decades of experience transforming raw wool to finished goods was the perfect source for our new High Desert yarn line vision. Carver’s passion for seeing Shaniko’s wool make its way to an American manufacturer was also in line with our goals. “I saw this partnership as a valuable opportunity to bring Crafts Group its first yarn from America,” said Carver. “The fact that we are third-party certified to this international benchmark is something that I and the other ranchers have felt the yarn industry and its consumers are ready for. In addition to premium quality and performance in the wool, it gives added confidence in our practices.” For Carver, a rancher and wool producer in her own right, building the relationship with us was important because of the positive impact she says the needle arts crafters have had on her during her own 20+ year journey taking the wool harvest direct to market. Crafters helped her see just how important traditional skills have always been, and the connected circle from the animals who provide the wool to our clothing. “They have mentored me and taught me things I did not know,” said Carver. “They showed me the critical importance of needle arts across cultures around the world and how important those skills have been in the development of humankind. They helped me build

my wool marketing efforts. They are family.” Summing it up, Carver said, “I learned plain and simple that we need needle crafting. Since primitive times, this circle remains constant.” Like her, the ranchers Carver works with have a deep respect for the land and animals from which their wool originates. The RWS certification process ensures a fully traceable and sustainable wool supply all the way to the product. Transparent about her intimate connection to both land and animals as a rancher, Carver believes honoring the roots of fiber is a key element in today’s fashion and textile industries. A ranch-to-fashion movement (similar to the farmto-fork movement in the culinary world), Carver describes the Shaniko Wool Company operation as the first step in a wool value chain that supports the use of wool from American land, making its way through American manufacturing, American designers, and ultimately the consumer, while keeping it as close to home as possible. “Working with family ranching operations, specifically in the American West, connects timeless traditions and the culture of tending land and sheep to the actual product,” said Carver. We at Knit Picks look forward to following along on Carver’s journey and continuing our partnership with Shaniko Wool Company to bring even more American-made yarn to consumers. Check out the Knit Picks Podcast Episode 343 - High Desert Yarn with Jeanne Carver to learn even more! This yarn begins with alpaca and Merino fibers dyed two different colors and then blended together to make a subtly rich, lustrous heather. Donegal is a series of viscose neps (think slubs or bits of lint) that are suspended in a very fine acrylic mesh, which allows them to be spun alongside the longer alpaca and Merino fibers. The high ratio of neps gives City Tweed a traditional appeal to modern and classic designs. Colors shown, from top left: Orca 24551, Jacquard 24979, Kelp 28197, Toad 24978. WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU DO WHAT YOU DO BEST: CREATE Creating the best projects means not only having access to the best materials at the best prices, but the best tools as well. Here at Knit Picks, we work with manufacturers and sell directly to you, offering great tools at amazing prices. And because we’re knitters too, we strive to bring you needles we’re as excited to use as we are to sell.

Interchangeable Circulars The foundation of the modern knitter’s toolbox. Detachable needle tips and cables interchange to form a wide range of gauges and lengths on demand. Available in 7 colorways and 13 sizes | Shown left in Majestic, starts at $5.99. Foursquare Tips They’re a little different and a lot of fun! We took the same smooth, laminated birch as our popular Majestic needles and squared them. The slightly rounded corners provide a comfortable extra grip for your fingers and yarn, helping to keep your hands limber and your stitches even. We love these needles for beginner or "tight" knitters as their unique shape helps keep stitches loose and even. Shown below. Tips start at $5.99.

Short Interchangeables Shorter tips and special length cables designed to make smaller circumference projects —like hats and sleeves— easier to manage. Available in 4 colorways and 7 sizes | Shown in Foursquare, tips starts at $5.49.

Straight Needles These ARE your grandmother’s needles. Elegant and simple, tried and true. For basic flat knitting, sometimes the classic methods are the best. Available in 3 colorways and 26 sizes | Shown in Sunstruck, starts at $4.69.

Double Pointed Needles Featuring tapered points at both ends for a classic solution to circular knitting and especially for small circumference projects, like socks.

DPN STRAIGHT AND FIXIES ON WHITE IN SUNSTRUCK/P CABLES

Available in 5 colorways and 22 sizes | Shown in Sunstruck, starts at $5.09.

Fixed Circulars These needle tips are permanently connected to non-kinking cables of specific length, useful in smaller gauge projects that don’t accommodate Interchangeable needle construction, or for large, flat knit projects. Available in 5 colorways and 40 sizes | Shown in Sunstruck, starts at $5.89.

WAVES OF COLOR Whether you love the waves of color in our laminated birch needles or the slick surface of nickel, we have everything you need to knit happy! With hundreds of variations at your fingertips, the perfect needle for any project in the perfect length is always available from our line of Options Interchangeable tips and cables. Buy pieces individually, or save when you purchase a full interchangeable set. If laminated birch needles are your style, we have 5 vibrant colorways to choose from. The smooth, burnished surface of our wood needles are perfectly balanced with just the right amount of grip, which works wonders for working with slick fibers like mohair, silk, and angora. Plus, birch wood is one of the most sustainable wood species, in addition to being extremely strong, durable, and fine grained. Our birch needles are an easy choice when adding to your tool collection! Available in 5 colorways and 13 sizes. Tips starts at $5.99, sets start at $49.99. Shown, from top left: Caspian {91078} and Sunstruck {90613}. Shown, from bottom left: Radiant {90548}, Majestic {91287}, and Rainbow {90306}.

Our nickel-plated needles have a slick, glass-like surface which allows your stitches to move freely, while the hollow brass tube is extremely lightweight for hours of comfortable knitting. Available in 13 sizes | Complete set {91310} starts at $49.99.

Add a splash of color to your knitting with Prism Needles! Our lightweight aluminum needles feature the same sharp points, flexible cables, and smooth joins as our other Options Interchangeable needles. Aluminum metal warms to your hands as you knit, and the slick metal surface allows stitches to slide off with ease. Available in a complete set | {91461} $59.99
