Growing Kneehill Country Market & Long Table Dinner August 18, 2018, Horseshoe Canyon Celebrating Alberta Open Farm Days and Alberta Local Food Week, the Kneehill County Agricultural Service Board is hosting: The Growing Kneehill Country Market & Long Table Dinner at Horseshoe Canyon on Saturday, August 18th.

Visit the market between 2-6pm and meet local food producers, artisans, and agri-tourism operators from Kneehill and the surrounding region. Stay after the Market for the Long Table Dinner where participants will be surrounded by the breathtaking views of Horseshoe Canyon while enjoying an amazing dinner prepared by top chefs showcasing local food products and producers.

Reeve’s Message The spring flooding of 2018 has left us with very a busy summer completing infrastructure assessments and repairs on many bridges and roadways. Roads continue to be one of our top priorities as we continue to move ahead with various shoulder pulls and capital projects this year. Our Ag and Parks department is organizing a Country Market and Long Table Dinner on August 18th that will showcase many local producers, as ag-tourism and business continues to thrive in our County. In planning, the Municipal Planning Commission meets regularly to decide on various development applications contributing to our rural sustainability.

With over 15 Regular Meetings under our belt, Council continues to work together on our strategic action priorities, which can be found on our website.

Kneehill County Regional Kneehill County continues to support our urban neighbours and communities through various Policies, such as our Community Grants to Non-Profits Policy, Recreation/Arts/Culture Policy, Youth Sponsorship Policy. Council may also, at their discretion, authorize one-time or project specific funding.

Kneehill County pays a requisition or membership to each of the following organizations to contribute to the services we provide to the region, totalling $97,497: Kneehill Regional Family and Community Support Services, Seniors Outreach, Central Alberta Economic Partnership, Kneehill Housing, Canadian Badlands Ltd., Doctor Retention and Recruitment, Marigold Library System and Community Futures Wildrose. We also have agreements with various partners for emergency & enforcement services, and cost for services for ag & operations.

Horseshoe Canyon Master Plan: Public Input by July 24 Horseshoe Canyon is a very popular day use destination within Kneehill County. The Canyon experiences approximately 400,000 visits annually. Kneehill County is in the process of preparing a Master Plan for Horseshoe Canyon. The Master Plan will provide the long-term management and development direction for the site. It will work to improve the visitor experience available on site while ensuring that the site’s unique ecological and historic resources are protected for generations to come.

Your input is key to creating a Master Plan that is driven by the community and allows the site to be used in ways that is supported by the community! The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and all answers are anonymous. Please complete the survey before July 24.

Rural Addressing Clean-Up Kneehill County is in the process of re-issuing any rural address “blue signs” with incorrect address information on them.

Staff will be notifying residents by letter if their blue sign is incorrect, will cover the costs of the new blue sign and install it for free. Accurate blue signs are essential for helping emergency crews locate rural properties quickly and easily.

Water Services Update Churchill Rural Water System Kneehill County is starting a project that will rehabilitate the current Churchill Rural Water System. The rehabilitation will improve and regulate the current system for all users which will result in a more efficient delivery system. The rehabilitation will include a reservoir and a pumphouse that will provide consistent water flow and water pressure throughout the system, as well, a bulk water station will be incorporated to provide a location for the agricultural and commercial users to receive water from.

Wimborne Water System Kneehill County will be installing a natural gas powered back-up generator at the Wimborne pumphouse. The generator is to provide power during times of outage which will allow the system to continue providing potable water to the residents of the Hamlet. Work on this project has begun and should be completed by the end of July.

The Churchill Water System services the south-eastern portion of the County.
