Since its founding, Biosensing Instrument (BI) has been developing innovative Surface plasmon Resonance (SPR) instruments to serve in a variety of areas across the life sciences market for the measurement of binding affnityandkinetics in a wide range of interactions including small molecule drugs, proteins, and even whole cells. BI recently introduced SPR Microscopy (SPRM), an exciting and non-invasive technology that combines SPR and optical microscopy technology to more accurately measure drug effcacyof membrane proteins because they are uniquely left embedded within their native whole cells. As cell membrane proteins constitute the targets of >50% of FDA-approved drugs, many labs need tools that characterize properties between new drug molecules and these cell membrane proteins. Existing solutions require extraction of membrane proteins from the cell, an extremely challenging process. In addition, preserving the integrity of these membrane proteins outside their cellular environment is diffcult,thusthemeasureddata with these denatured proteins is inaccurate. The SPRM system, Model SPRm200, enables
the measurement of cell membrane protein interactions while in their native state in real-time, which provides vital insight into the effectiveness of a drug. This game-changing instrument, applauded by customers and industry leaders, delivers in vitro data to early drug discovery research making the results more biologically relevant and cost effective.

Along with other product offerings such as the BI-2500 and BI-4500, BI’s SPR systems implement significant advancements in microfluidics and instrument design to bring the advantages of an open architecture and high throughput to end users. The advanced open architecture provides innovative benefits such as interchangeable analysis modules, which expand the traditional SPR application frontiers by combining SPR technology with electrochemistry (EC-SPR) or chemical vapor sensing (Gas-SPR). Studies of conformational changes in proteins as well as unprecedented utility for applications such as point-of-care biosensors, material science and food/environmental safety research are now possible thanks to these analysis modules. SALADIN LODGE has a long and distinguished history going back over 100 years, when JR Crooke was the first man to drive a car over the Black Range heading approximately 90, now known as kilometres Northeast from Melbourne. He named the property Saladin after his famous horse, who won the Australia Cup in 1872.
