evin joined Paragon in 1987. n the early years, he remembers 12-hour days and wearing “many hats” to learn every aspect of Paragon and the security industry. After a continuous string of successes and growth, Paragon and evin have never looked back.
n early 2020, Corona virus was declared a global pandemic and all frontline workers including the Ontario security industry were deemed essential services. Paragon’s security personnel have directly and indirectly contributed to the safety of people and property during this diffculttime. evinhasestablishedhisleadership acumen and communicated exceptionally well, leading to business growth at the same time others in the security industry faltered.
t started with being prepared for a crisis. Long ago Paragon implemented infrastructure to facilitate working from home, and evin was quick to send everyone home until the offceswerepreparedfortheoperationaland support teams. Preparation included sterilization and cleaning protocols, directional signage, safety and social distancing instructions, and the installation of safety partitions.
When the pandemic was declared, evin directed Paragon’s EMT (Emergency Management Team) to focus on managing the crisis. The EMT established a clear division of responsibilities and accountabilities that included but were not limited to PPE procurement and distribution, employee safety, and continuity of operational excellence.
Communication plays a huge role in leadership. n his first COV D-19 related message, evin was quick to reassure employees that Paragon’s top priority was their safety. He thanked them for their great work and dedication to Paragon’s clients before detailing the steps being taken to keep them safe and prepare the offcesfortheirreturn. He took it upon himself to ensure he kept that promise.
evin’s second COV D-19 related message reiterated his commitment to safety and reminded everyone “we’re all Paragonians” and we can work together to thwart the spread of the virus. The message then shared steps every employee must take to maintain safety. As part of his commitment to the employees, evin realized business continuity was key to providing job security. As an essential service, evin was quick to share that Paragonians were lucky. Lucky to be in the security industry and serving our communities at this time of need and crisis. Lucky to be a part of a growing company that is uniquely structured to hire, train, and support its frontline employees and clients. Paragon protected their employees from COV D-19 by providing them with continuity of employment, resulting in zero layoffs.
Supporting client’s needs with security coverage was made doubly challenging when the government appointed guard licensing company shut their operations during COV D-19. While many prospective guards could be trained, they could not write their licensing exam, could not get their security license, and could not work as guards. Under evin’s leadership, Paragon created the position of Greeting Screener, unlicensed but well trained Paragonians who can encourage social distancing and issue PPE within client properties supporting them with the reopening of client businesses and return to work programs for their employees.
With operations and Paragonians guided by evin’s steady hand, clients have seen and experienced the Paragon difference during this time of crisis. They are more than willing to advocate for the company, which has enabled Paragon to organically increase business significantly in 2020.
Under evin’s leadership and guidance, Paragon has organically grown to nearly 600 clients with over 700 facilities across the Golden Horseshoe and annual revenue of $180M. Today, Paragon employs over 4,500 security personnel and has a fleet of 95 mobile patrol units. evin was recognized and awarded the “Best Security VP of the Year in Canada” by the CV nternational Business Magazine for three consecutive years, during 2016-2018.
