Dogwoods Country Estate FA R H I L L S Inspired by the farmhouses of Vermont and the summer homes of Nantucket, the estate of Dogwoods borrows heavily from those architectural vernaculars. Reclaimed barn wood, Pennsylvania fieldstone, and hand-split cedar shingles are found in abundance in this stunning residence tucked into the lush countryside of the historic borough of Far Hills within an hour of Manhattan.

Over a period of 2 1/2 years, a team of architects and designers collaborated on a multi-million-dollar renovation of the original house. Their achievement was to create a spacious home that is defined by comfort, aesthetic excellence, and meticulous attention to detail yet has a relaxed and cozy ambience.

Sloping rooflines, cupolas, and a 360º window-lined tower complement the covered porches at the front and back, giving the house a charming old-world profile.

Wood predominates in the interior, including five varieties of wide-plank antique wood floors—chestnut, elm, pine, maple, and oak. A selection of ceiling types from cathedral to barrel to coffered are hand-crafted in various traditional styles such as shiplap, beadboard, and coffered. Walls of barn wood adorn the "Adirondack" game room while the adjacent screened-in porch with a pine-plank ceiling has a distinctly rustic feel.

Innovative features add character to every room in the six-bedroom house. Among these is the weathered barn-door overlooking the great room from the second level. The second-floor master suite has a bright tower study, where casement windows give a bird’s eye view of the property. The two-level blue and white themed suite, with a stone fireplace and walk-out balcony, gets its inspiration of seaside simplicity from Nantucket.

Hand-hewn barn beams frame the entry from the kitchen into the great room, where you will find one of the home’s six fireplaces.

Here and in the living room are fieldstone cubbies for firewood.

Designed by European Country Kitchens, the radiant-heated, chestnut-floored kitchen has an arched fieldstone cooking center with brick backsplash, an island breakfast bar, and beautifully crafted custom cabinetry of alder wood.
