Winston Farm M E N D H A M TOW N S H I P The stunning 16-acre Mendham estate known as Winston Farm can claim many superlatives. The centerpiece main residence was designed and built by Porraro Associates in 2002, with much input from the owners, whose vision was to create a large, beautiful country home that is luxurious yet comfortable. The owners and architect were determined to avoid the vast, cavernous rooms and spaces that can be so soulless. The result is a tastefully elegant home that combines classic American country style with the chic details of French country living.

Every detail of the six-bedroom home is completely custom, conceived and built with exceptional materials and craftsmanship, starting with the 200-year-old Pennsylvania limestone exterior with quarter-sawn eastern white pine clapboard and hand-split cedar shake roofing. Care was taken to create a warm and welcoming ambience from first entry into the house. Thus the choice was made to floor the main foyer in rustic bluestone, instead of marble, and invite views of the garden and lily pond through large French doors at the far end.

Throughout the house, thoughtfully chosen finishings ensure the owners’ vision of tasteful comfort. There are rounded edge arches, plaster walls, custom ironwork, recessed display cabinets, deep-set windows with single mullions and Dutch doors—all executed with the finest workmanship available. In the main study and library, softly-hued butternut wood paneling was chosen to give a warm ambience. French doors to the covered patio, grass-cloth wall covering, and a fireplace all combine to give this suite of rooms a welcoming yet sophisticated feel.

The oval-shaped formal dining room with exquisitely hand-painted ceiling, French doors to the bluestone patio and adjoining butler’s pantry with bluestone floor and granite countertops, cater to

upscale entertaining. The beautiful sunroom is walled with multiple sets of French doors and transoms. The entertainment wing, comprising a media-viewing room and billiards room, features white oak flooring, cove lighting, and wainscoting. A pub room of reclaimed Pennsylvania stone services this area.

The kitchen/great room wing forms the true heart of the house.

Viking, Miele, and Sub-Zero appliances complement European Country Kitchen cabinets. There is a breakfast bar, center island with prep sink, and cozy seating area with fireplace. This spectacular

A multitude of extras contribute to making this the stand-out property that it is.
