Konkus Farm

C H E S T E R TOW N S H I P A long scenic driveway winds through fields and pastures, over a stone-pillared bridge and gurgling brook, leading into the enchanting equestrian compound known as Konkus Farm. The 24-acre property with a stunningly renovated 19th century farmhouse and recently updated equestrian facilities is breathtaking.

It’s an idyllic setting. As far as the eye can see is gently rolling acreage bordered by woodlands, while the main residence and four substantial farm buildings at the heart of the property are meticulously landscaped with rose bushes, stone walls, and classic picket fencing. Retaining its historic charm and many period details, the five-bedroom residence has been completely modernized into a beautiful, spacious home with high ceilings, random-width pumpkin pine floors, and a multitude of fine appointments. The kitchen, breakfast area, and high-ceilinged family room comprise the center of the home’s first floor living space. Granite countertops and island, a marble backsplash, and top-of-the-line appliances—Sub-Zero, Viking, Bosch, and GE Professional— enhance this superb country-style kitchen which has a woodbeamed ceiling and ceramic tiled flooring. In the bright family room, where French doors open to a bluestone patio and fire pit, window seats flank the fireplace and the wooden floor is radiant heated. Of note in the other main living spaces are shoulder-high wainscot in the formal dining room, and a fireplace with a marble hearth in the living room. The first-floor bedroom with en suite bath would also be suitable as a library/study. Much of the first-floor living area is wired for audio. On the second floor are four bedrooms and three baths, including a luxurious en suite master with two walk-in closets. The master bath features a jetted free-standing tub, oversized limestone shower with dual shower heads, and two sinks. This bathroom is a sanctuary for pampering with radiant-heated limestone flooring and poured concrete countertops styled as faux wood. The home’s third floor, a large, open space, is ideal as a playroom, exercise room, or home office.

For outdoor entertainment rain or shine, a wide bluestone terrace and covered porch wraps around the house. The fire pit and outside sound system accentuates this luxurious setting and its sweeping views.

Also on the property is a charming two-bedroom, two-bath guest cottage with kitchen, a sitting room and separate family room. Adjoining the cottage is a heated workshop with motorized garage door. Recent renovations include new heating, wiring, and lighting. Whether a professional or hobbyist, the equestrian will find everything he or she needs on the grounds of the compound. The 18-stall horse barn with a feed room features interior and exterior access, water, and a newly rebuilt hayloft. Other recent improvements include new premium rubber aisle flooring, doors, windows, 10 rebuilt stalls, and concrete entrance pads. The outdoor riding ring, five run-in sheds, and five fenced pastures will impress the most serious horse lover. Complementary outbuildings are a four-car garage, a contractor’s garage for large farm equipment or additional cars, and a 36 X 36 foot workshop. All the equestrian and farm buildings, which have undergone substantial recent updates, are red barnstyle construction with pitched roofs and white trim, adding up to a picture-perfect setting, where old meets new and function blends with style. THE AREA Chester offers highly regarded public schools, a selection of nearby private schools and a recently built state-of-the-art public library. A walk down its historic main street reveals charming antique stores, boutiques and venues for fine country dining. Nearby the contemporary Streets of Chester is home to nationally recognized retailers. Only moments away, Route 206 whisks residents to a network of major highways and the urban world beyond.
