Run with Lily 2026: More Than a Race — A Movement of Hope
This
year’s Run with Lily was our biggest and most impactful yet!
With 544 participants registered, we saw our largest race day turnout in the event’s history. Even more powerful, the movement stretched far beyond our local community, with 22 different states and countries represented through our virtual runners. What started as a single race has become something much bigger — a growing, global movement of people choosing to show up, speak out, and stand together for mental health.
Behind the scenes, this day was made possible by an incredible community. Over 60 volunteers gave their time, energy, and hearts to make the event run seamlessly. In addition, 53 sponsors — both financial and inkind — stepped in to support this mission, helping us create an experience that continues to grow year after year. But what makes Run with Lily truly meaningful is not just the numbers — it’s the impact.
Every step taken, every mile completed, and every dollar raised goes directly toward providing mental health support for individuals who otherwise would not have access to care. Through counseling, group support, and resources provided by The Oaks Therapeutic Community, lives are being changed. Barriers are being removed. Hope is being restored.
Run with Lily is not just something you attend — it’s something you become a part of.
It’s a reminder that no one has to walk through their struggles alone. It’s a community that continues to show up for one another. And it’s a movement that is reaching further than we ever imagined.
Because of you — whether you ran, walked, volunteered, sponsored, or supported from afar — this mission is growing, and lives are being impacted every single day.
Together, we are carrying Lily’s legacy forward. And together, we are making sure that help is always within reach.

The Liberty Marketplace Great Find
The Liberty Marketplace, located in the heart of downtown Liberty (119 W. Swannanoa Ave., Liberty, NC 27298), is one of the most charming and distinctive destinations for antiques and collectibles in the area. It adds a fresh, year-round shopping experience that complements the area’s well-loved antique culture by offering a curated blend of vintage treasures, historical pieces, and one-of-a-kind finds. Whether shoppers are seasoned collectors or casual browsers, this store offers an inviting environment to discover meaningful pieces with history and character. The Liberty Marketplace is committed to strengthening Liberty’s small-business ecosystem. By providing space for local vendors, artisans, and collectors, the Marketplace helps keep commerce and culture thriving in the community. Its location also contributes to our town’s growing appeal as a destination for daytrippers exploring antique stores, specialty shops, and historic sites throughout Randolph County. The three owners aim to preserve the stories behind every item it sells, connecting past and present through objects that spark nostalgia, curiosity, and joy. They call it their HAPPY PLACE, and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to 4, it can be yours too.
Happy 68th Birthday, Liberty Ruritan Club!
The Liberty Ruritan Club is proud to celebrate its 68th anniversary this month— a milestone that reflects decades of service, fellowship, and dedication to our community. Over the years, the club has seen many changes. What began as simple gatherings under a shelter eventually grew into a fully enclosed facility that has served as a gathering place for countless club meetings and events, birthday parties, family reunions, memorials, and community cookouts.
As the years passed, a covered extension was added, where our dedicated members have long prepared delicious fried chicken and barbecue meals for our April and September fundraisers, held on the last Saturdays of those months. Most recently, the building has been upgraded with a new heating and air system, and interior remodeling is currently underway. These improvements are being completed largely through the volunteer efforts of our hardworking members. We look forward to sharing updated photos once the renovations are complete—so stay tuned!
Our commitment to community service continues beyond our building. For 37 years, club members have participated in the NC Adopt-A-Highway program, helping keep our roads clean and safe. In March, members once again collected several large bags of trash along both sides of Old 421, from one city limit sign to the other.
The Liberty Ruritan Club is also proud to once again offer a $1,000 scholarship to a graduate or former graduate of Providence Grove High School. This opportunity is open to students pursuing a two- or four-year degree, as well as those seeking certification from a trade school or academy.
For those unfamiliar, Ruritan is a civic organization dedicated to improving communities and fostering fellowship among members who share a passion for service. If you’re interested in making a difference and becoming more involved in your community, we invite you to join us.
Our upcoming meetings will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 6; Monday, May 4; and Monday, June 1. For more information, please contact Club President Terry Call at 336-693-5910 or follow us on Facebook.

The Rose Garden Club Of Liberty Makes Liberty Even Brighter
Spring energy and teamwork are bringing new life to the Farmers Market!
This phase began last week when talented club members installed an irrigation system, laying the groundwork for the project. Yesterday, another group of dedicated and enthusiastic
RGC members bundled up and got an early start spreading five truckloads of mulch along the new garden bed from the front to the back of the market— what a transformation already! Today, with help from some amazing husbands, we wrapped up this phase by installing beautiful benches, creating a perfect place for visitors to relax and enjoy this beautiful garden.
We’re so grateful for the many hands and big hearts helping make this space more welcoming for our community! Be sure to check back soon -

Through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA), the U.S. Department of Energy awarded $208,000,000 to the State of North Carolina to implement energy efficiency and appliance rebate programs for low-tomoderate income homeowners and renters. The state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is administering the two programs, known as Homeowners Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR). Homeowners and renters in Northeast Randolph County who make less than 150% the average annual median income rate (AMI) per household, or $127,800 a year as of 2025, are qualified to receive up to $30,000 in combined work that can be used for measures like heat pump or electrical upgrades, new sealing and insulation, or high efficiency electrical appliances.
Income-eligible residents of North Carolina can now start the application process to potentially save thousands of dollars on energy-saving home upgrades and appliances at www.energysavernc.org. This program is scheduled to continue until September 30, 2031, or when program funds are exhausted.
Avoid distracted driving; focus on the road ahead
By Mike Causey - NC Insurance Commissioner
I often get asked why automobile insurance premiums have gone up. I respond by listing the top things that are putting pressure on premiums: The rising cost of repairs and other inflationary factors, people driving at excessive speeds, motorists operating their cars while impaired and drivers and passengers not wearing their safety belts.
The No. 1 factor putting upward pressure on automobile insurance premiums is distracted driving. Since April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month in the United States, now is a good time to emphasize the dangers of distracted driving and pledge to focus on safe driving practices. Distracted driving is anything that takes your concentration off driving safely. A common form of distracted driving is texting or talking on your cell phone. Eating, drinking coffee or a soft drink, setting the GPS, putting on makeup, changing a radio station or tending to a child in a car are also forms of distracted driving.
Distracted driving can be deadly. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,275 lives were lost involving distracted drivers in 2023. That’s 3,275 too many. The NHTSA estimates that more than 32,000 people have died in crashes involving distracted drivers since 2014.
While statistics suggest that younger drivers tend to be distracted at higher rates than older drivers, drivers of all ages are at risk for distracted driving crashes. Teens, however, can play a key role in preventing distracted driving. They can be the best messengers with their peers. They can pledge to never drive distracted and speak up if they see a friend drive while distracted.
Parents can set a good example for their teenage children by never driving distracted as well as having a talk with their children about distraction and the responsibilities that come with driving.
Here are a few tips you can use to avoid distracted driving:
If you need to send a text or email, pull off the road and safely park before sending the message.
Select a passenger to be a “designated texter” for you.
Set your radio station or navigation system before you start driving.
Don’t scroll through apps, websites or social media while driving. If you think you’ll be tempted to do so, you can turn your phone off, put it in airplane mode or put your phone in the glove box or back seat while you’re driving.
Ask someone else in the car to tend to the needs of children while you’re driving.
The advice to avoid distracted driving is valid every time you get behind the wheel. Taking your eye off the road because of a distraction can be disastrous, even if it’s only for a few seconds. Let’s all pledge to be better drivers. Avoiding distracted driving is a good start.
