New Four Way Stop In Liberty A Randolph County crossroads will convert to an all-way stop later this month to improve safety. Weather permitting, flag operators for the N.C. Department of Transportation will manage the traffic flow while the intersection of Liberty Grove and Richland Church roads is converted from a twoway stop to a four-way stop. The change is scheduled for June 20. The current pattern requires traffic on Richland Church Road to stop at the intersection. According to a statewide study, intersections converted to all-way stops showed a 68 percent reduction in crashes, with a 77 percent drop in crashes involving injuries or fatalities. Warning signs of the upcoming change already have been posted near the intersection. As a reminder, drivers approaching an all-way stop should follow these rules: The first vehicle at the intersection has the right of way; • When two or more vehicles reach an intersection at the same • time, the vehicle to the right has the right of way and may go straight or, if legal and after signaling, turn left or right; When two facing vehicles approach an intersection • simultaneously, both drivers can move straight ahead or turn right. If one driver is going straight while the other wants to turn left, the driver who wants to turn left must yield; and Even with the right of way, drivers should remember to use • appropriate turn signals and watch for pedestrians and other vehicles.

The kids have drawn you a map for the Celebrate Liberty Festival

Did You Know: New things at the Celebrate Liberty Festival. The Town Council has approved a Beer Garden to be located at the festival this year. It will be located near the intersection of N Depot St and W Starmount Ave under the big pecan tree in a nice grassed area. Bring your yard chairs and enjoy a cool spot in the shade and one of the many beverages brewed right here in our county by Four Saints Brewery located in Asheboro. They will be the host provider. You will receive a band and limit of one beverage at a time per person. No beverage will be allowed out of the designated area. The live bands will be just on the other side of the fence so you will be able to hear all the great tunes. Also this year the stage has been relocated to the grass area at the First United Methodist Church. Now you they will have three sets of bleachers located under the big trees of the Methodist Church for your shade while listening to music and watching the demonstrations. It even gets better for now we have added an additional stage of music on corner of N Dept St and W Swannanoa Ave. The line up for that will be: 3:30 -4 J. Lane 4:15 - 4:45 New Day Ministry Praise Team 5-5:30 J. Lane 5:45-6:15 Shannon Moody 6:30-7 J. Lane Between all empty slots D J Spintneous (Coy Parker) will be DJ great tunes The kids contest will be located near the Kidzone this year. It is so excited to see all the new vendors coming this year. Also a special shout out for Paul Bruchon Lawn Care for the great clean up the does for after the festival.

Okay I have heard numerous people say, I wish there was some where for the kids to have a safe and fun place. Where here it is, Liberty Ice Cream Parlor and Arcade. I love seeing all the kids enjoy hanging out. The other day they were not only playing video games but it was cool seeing them sitting in the lounge area talking and guess what they did not have their phones , they were actually hanging out talking to each other. I encourage you to check this place out. Parents grab you a cool treat and catch up with friends at the picnic tables while your kids enjoy some good old fashion fun. They also cater to birthday parties to youth groups. Check out their ad on this page.

June Update For 100 Man Project For more than eight years now, Some of your most dependable, thoughtful, and unselfish men and women who are your neighbors, have volunteered a small portion of their precious time to provide a vital benefit to perhaps you and certainly your neighbors. The twenty four volunteer drivers, mechanic, dispatcher, treasurer, recording secretary, and directors work diligently to provide important community related services to young and not so young individuals. The Reading Program at both the Liberty Library and Liberty Elementary, the new Leadership Development Program at Liberty Elementary, the Dental Clinic yearly, and the C.A.R.S. Ride Program deserve both your moral and financial support. The 100 Man Project, Inc. is the beginning stages of trying to secure donations and grants that will allow the group to purchase and build a small, secure permanent facility to house our two vehicles and small office/meeting room. Incoming President Gary Davis is the perfect individual to lead our group during the next year for this and our ongoing efforts. I thank this community for supporting the 100 Man Project, Inc. during our last eight years and look forward to many more years of service says outgoing President Tom Meacham. A big thank you to our outgoing President, Tom Meacham for his dedication to the 100 Man Project, Inc. from the beginning and for the great leadership this past year, says incoming President Davis.

Randolph Vocational Industries Has the Workforce—Needs Work! John quietly concentrates while he attaches an elastic tag to a metal clip that is used inside a water heater. Sergie inspects filters, counts them and prepares them to be packed.  John and Sergie (not their real names) work at Randolph Vocational Industries, Inc. (RVI), located at 731 Farr Street in Asheboro.          Once referred to as a sheltered workshop, this non-profit agency helps around 20 intellectually and developmentally-disabled people who perform repetitive job activities, giving them an opportunity to be active in the workforce. When a company project is too large, too time-consuming or just too tedious for a production team, those tasks can be outsourced to RVI.           “A company may want 16 screws put into bags to accompany a piece of ready-to assemble furniture. Our clients can count, inspect, do pre-assembly work, sort and package material and help with bulk mailings,” explained Executive Director Cindy Wilkins.           But the amount of work tends to come and go. The inconsistency causes a down time when the clients are not working and that cuts into the agency’s revenues.           “We are seeking more companies to hire us to do those repetitive, time-consuming jobs.  Our skilled workforce helps manufacturing companies save on overhead while providing a badly-needed service to our community.” RVI is a private non-profit training facility that offers planned vocational rehabilitation programs for physically, emotionally and intellectually challenged adults. The agency is affiliated with the North Carolina Division of Vocational rehabilitation and Sandhills Center Mental Health/Developmental Disability/ Substance Abuse Program.           “We need work to sustain our mission.  Operational expenses are increasing. We depend upon production income to keep our in-house clients working and to provide work for our job-training clients. The cost depends upon the job activity, the materials needed and the amount of time it takes to execute a task.”           Nearly a dozen companies in Randolph and Guilford counties have contracts with RVI, but Wilkins says more work is needed.           “We offer an array of services. In addition to helping our regular clients, we receive referrals from N.C. Vocational Rehabilitation. We do vocational evaluation, job training, employment assistance and job coaching.  For those with a desire to work, we find employment for them in the community, she explained.           For information, contact Wilkins at 336-629-0573 or email to cindyw@asheboro.com

Mt. Zion Biker Sunday July 15th 2018 Food, Fun, Ride - All makes are welcome Come wearing your riding gear Jesus was a lot like you & me… The Government didn’t like Him, the Church thought He was weird, His friends were few and eventually many would deny Him. He was persecuted by hypocrites, He hung around with other people who were shunned by society, not the “better than thou” Pharisees. No doubt, if He were here in the flesh today, He would be sitting on his bike right next to you, telling you that He loved you enough to die for you… Please come and join us at a Church where everyone is welcome to worship God. No judgment or condemnation. If you seek a real relationship with the Heavenly Father through Christ the Son, we welcome you to attend. A hot-dogs, chips and drinks lunch will be served after the Service. Ride will begin at Down Home Harley Davidson 2215 W Hanford Rd, Burlington. Side stands up at 10:15 a.m.
