Geoffrey is one of the Network Maintenance Technicians in the technical department serving Central Business District (CBD) zone. He is a newly wed in the building and
he lets us into his marriage life four months later….
Give us a short history of how you met. How did you get engaged? We met in church during an annual youth conference. We courted for a year after which we decided to tie the note. By the time I proposed, I had gone on my knees to seek approval of the Lord if she is the right lady. The first ring I placed on her finger was the wedding ring.
What are the characteristics of the lady you were looking for? I was looking for a God-fearing lady, devout of the Lord, someone who would help me in the journey of Christianity.
What are some of the expectations you had of marriage when you were getting in? A good cook so that I am not the one who cook at home Someone to be washing clothes for me and still have to do house chores. But now after marriage, I concentrate on work more as I do. Before I got married, I used to get home tired not have to worry about house chores.
What has changed since marriage about yourself? My way of thinking; financially I have to plan how to spend my salary because now I have more responsibilities. I have learnt to put up with the differences in my spouse; to be more accommodative and understanding. I used to take a shower once but now I have to be always clean by showering at least twice a day.
Is there a time you forget that you are married and do things as you without having your wife in mind? No.
Are there responsibilities that you did not prepare yourself for when you were getting into marriage? I had not prepared adequately for the increased budgetary expenditure associated
with in-laws and the extended family especially on emergencies. Sometimes I used to think my wife is extravagant in her planning but with time I have got to understand that she is genuine.
Is there something that has really shaken your marriage even since you wedded? After settling down, I realized that the huge finances I borrowed I have to repay and this took time before I stabilized.

What are the blessings that have come your way since marriage? Salary increment Wedding gifts
What are some of the things you do to continually nurture your marriage? Daily seeking the presence of the Lord Post-marriage counselling in the Church Constantly demonstrating love for my wife by taking her out, buying her gifts etc. Advice from close friends and colleagues
What role has your faithfulness to God played in your marriage? It has minimized a lot of misunderstandings It has enhanced service unto the Lord as a family . It has promoted love in our family. Between dating, engagement and marriage, which steps would you remove? Engagement, because dating automatically takes place for marriage to happen.
Best moments in your marriage? When we have gone out with my wife
What advice can you give to those who are not yet married? To always trust upon the Lord for the right partner Ask for the approval of the Lord in order to get the right partner.
When are you planning to have kids and how many? After one year, and to have atleast 2 babies
In your own opinion, what is the most important thing that somebody should think about before getting into marriage?
You must be ready for any eventuality
Have stability in terms of finances and decsion-making .

POWER OF SERVICE IN CUSTOMER RETENTION

Most of us have received poor service at some point. There is one pertinent issue that most companies tend to overlook: customer retention. Most times, we forget the value of customers and assume they are going nowhere. Never assume that a customer knows how you do business and skip explaining products or services. There is the beauty of remembering a customer by name and what their preferences are, but there is also more beauty in treating a repeat customer as though they were buying from you for the first time. Customers love to feel valued and appreciated. Aim at reducing the defection rate by measuring customer satisfaction regularly. Measuring satisfaction helps an organization to know areas of improvement. Use feedback to plan on staff training and rotation as well as systems upgrade. Covid-19 has forced most companies to offer online services that require efficient and reliable technology to attain high levels of standards. For many, the expression “it’s the little things that matter”, may not really mean much until they interact with a customer service provider. Every aspect of business has a certain level of service attached to it. Service has the power to attract or repel customers.
Create a plan in line with the organizational vision as well as what is best for the customer. Know your customers and what their specific needs are, work on reducing staff turnover and benchmark activities with a chosen organization. Measuring satisfaction will not only help an organization to work on their weak areas but also build long-term relationships with customers. Most times organizations wrongly assume that they will meet a customer’s expectation and get a surprise feedback. Knowing and understanding your customer eliminates such risks. Remember, this year’s Customer Service Week was themed ‘The power of Service’.
