Acrylic, spray can & glue, 185*118cm “Lampe” is the pseudonym of artist Henning I. Grannes (24), from Stavanger, Norway. The lamp is a lifeless object, which still has the capacity to light up the atmosphere of a room. The object has a symbolic meaning connected to light & dark, good and evil. In this case, the personification of the object is connected to finding the light within oneself, and not from the exterior world. About the displayed piece: “Colours of Decay” represents a mask, or skull, in a life crisis. It carries an anxiety of death, and an uplifting chaos of strong colours. The painting attempts to convey vulnerability and adversity as something beautiful, which results in our colours & uniqueness. The painting has loose thick lines, which gives a sense of movement and insecurity. Yet the painting has the colours and intensity of a fighter. The painting has a recite from an automobile repair shop glued to the canvas, which is dated to the 1980’s. Hence “Colours of Decay” carries a representation of the fight and crises of the HIV epidemic, as it threatened the entire gay male community from the 1980´s. Vulnerability and adversity persevere as something beautiful and meaningful. For more information visit: www.lampe-artist.com
