Dear Reader,

As we proudly unveil the third edition of our House Magazine, we ref�lect on the journey thus far with immense satisfaction. With each passing edition, we witness a remarkable surge in employee participation, a testament to our collective commitment to excellence.

It brings us great joy to observe the multitude of stories shared by our colleagues, encompassing both professional triumphs and personal anecdotes.

The organization too has been taking intensive efforts in various employee engagement activities which undoubtedly have provided fertile ground for personal growth and development of our employees. We also take pride in witnessing the active involvement of our colleagues in various pursuits outside of work.

While summing up this edition, we realized that this edition revolves only around our employees and their myriad accomplishments, more of an employee-centric edition, very much in line with our organization’s ethos of PeopleCentricity.From team triumphs to individual milestones, this magazine celebrates the diverse talents and contributions of our people across all spheres.

The period from June to December’23 marked significant developments at the organizational level, from establishment of a new facility in Nashik to bidding farewell to some of our tallest leaders in the organisation. Through this medium, we cherish the opportunity to revisit these pivotal moments.

As we entrust you with this latest edition, we extend an invitation to collectively forge new paths and create even more success stories to share. Together, let us continue to inspire and be inspired by the remarkable journey of our organization and its people.

Deepak Lokras: Hello...

Editor: How are you today?

Deepak Lokras: I am good.

Editor: Can we have some time with you?

Deepak Lokras: Absolutely, Most welcome.

Editor: First of all, Congratulations on your new role.

Deepak Lokras: Thank you!

Editor: So how do you define this new leadership now?

Deepak Lokras: I believe every employee is a leader in his own way and it’s really heartening to see youngsters taking these roles and being a leader in their project, their area of work. So, I believe in empowerment in this company and once you give a responsibility to an individual, I’m sure he develops himself as a leader. My job in all this is to give guidance and motivation to all of them.

Editor: Great! According to you, what strategies does KPCL need to employ to stay competitive in the market?

Deepak Lokras: KPCL has many products, and we are into different fields. So, the strategies are different for each product. But the bottom line is - it’s a competitive market and you need to win against the competition. So, costs have to be driven down. And that is the key for all our products in the company. And I think so we are working towards it. And the key again in this is, you know, a control over the supply chain that we have for all the products. So, I think there is a good movement on that front, and we are working towards it.

Editor: Okay. What do you foresee in the upcoming year for Kirloskar Pneumatic Company?

Deepak Lokras: Oh, I see a very bright future. Because as compared to last year, we have a good order bank with us and very good opportunities coming up in this year. So, my guess is I would urge everyone that we have to grow at least big double digits. So that will be 30% plus is my target.

Editor: Okay, that’s very encouraging! Can you share KPCL’s vision for the future?

Deepak Lokras: We will become a 5000-crore company by 2030. This is my vision for the company and it’s not easy, but we are working on various projects, various new products that we are introducing in the market. So, I think that’s a very achievable target by 2030.

Editor: That’s a very bright future I must say. My next question, what does success mean to you?

Deepak Lokras: We are providing solutions to our customers. So, we have been involved in conceptualizing the solution for the customer and then making it for him and then actually implementing it in the field. When that happens and that satisfaction that I can see on the customer’s face is a success, I would say. Because we have really, you know, made a solution for him and given it to him. So that is

something that I define success. Apart from the, you know, the financial side is always a given that you have to achieve your numbers, you have to achieve your profitability. But then this is the real success when the customer really gets satisfied with what you have given is a success.

Editor: Great, can you share your recent success story for that matter?

Deepak Lokras: There are many examples, but some of the complex EPC projects that we did and completed. We had our own issues while executing them but that is something when we completed that was really a feeling of success.

Editor: Great, congratulations on that. Now we wish to know how does your typical day look like?

Deepak Lokras: Oh, it starts with taking my pet dog and talking to him in the morning and then I come to office and then we have, you know, meeting with all the people and especially with the new responsibilities now given. So, the typical day that was normally there for the last few months and years would change. So, I have to still, you know, formulate my day with the new responsibilities.

Editor: Okay. How do you handle stress and pressure in your new role?

Deepak Lokras: I have been here for the last 37 years, and stress and pressure is a part of life. It does come. But I have trained myself to remain calm and cool. That is key because I believe that if you are agitated, you can’t think. And that’s where I believe that take a step back, relax, think over the problem, and then start moving ahead. So, I have trained myself in that fashion. So, I think I’m able to handle it fairly well now. After so many years!!

Editor: That’s really good to know. Who is your role model and why?

Deepak Lokras: There are many role models in different areas of work. But I would only take my mother. She is no more now; she’s not with me anymore. But the unwavering and unconditional commitment that she had for the entire family including me. So, I think that

has taught me the lessons in life. There’s no substitute to hard work; hard and smart work both. I remember she was extremely disciplined, and she brought that in us. So, I consider my mother as my first role model.

Editor: Wow, that’s really inspiring, I must say. How do you relax after a busy day? Any hobby or any favourite sport that you indulge into?

Deepak Lokras: I like current affairs. I watch TV. Current affairs for India, for neighbouring countries and even the world. I like that. So, I do watch it. I do read that. And if you say sports, cricket has been a passion. So, whenever I get time, I do watch cricket. I remember when I was in my college days, we grew up in the era of Sunil Gavaskar. I used to go and watch Sunil Gavaskar for four days batting in a Dalit trophy or a Ranji trophy in Nagpur where I used to live. That was the passion but now you don’t get that time to see these sports and even cricket also has become a faster game now with T20 coming and we didn’t have that when we were in college. So, I think that’s a game which I love watching and that relaxes me also.

Editor: Great, it’s good to know that our leader is also a cricket lover. Now my last question to you, what is your most memorable life lesson?

Deepak Lokras: I’ll narrate an incident, my elder brother, my cousin brother rather, he is a management consultant, and he did tell me that you should attend a funeral. And you should do that fairly often whenever you get a chance to do that. That makes you, you know come to the ground. And that is something which was really a big lesson. No matter how successful you are in terms of money, you might have earned a lot of money, you might have achieved something very great. But at the end of the day, that is the reality. So, you know, one has to be grounded. That was one of the big lessons that, you know, I did get from my brother.

Editor: Oh my God, that’s really nice.

Best Student Presentation Award

We’re pleased to announce that our D&D team has bagged the second consecutive ‘Best Student Presentation Award’ at City, University of London's 13th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems held between 10-13 September 2023.

The conference, organized in collaboration with esteemed partners including the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR), British Compressed Air Society (BCAS), the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), and others, aimed to foster knowledge exchange and innovation in the field of compressors and expanders within future energy systems.

This prestigious biennial conference hosted more than 234 delegates of 29 countries from the compressor industry and academic institutes worldwide.

The research paper titled ‘Investigating Alternative Rotor Materials to Increase Displacement and Efficiency of Screw Compressor while Considering Cost and Manufacturability’ interested many experts; especially the novel look into materials in order to enhance performance.

Kudos to our presenting team Abhishek Kumar, Dr. Sumit Patil and R&DCONNECT interns Kewal Patil and Amey Kulkarni from VIIT, Pune and their institute supervisor Prof. Atul Kulkarni. Moreover, thanks to Mr. Amit Mahamuni (Manager - Manufacturing Engineering/ACD – PRODUCTS) & rest of the ACD manufacturing team as well for providing inputs on rotor manufacturability.

Hyderabad Regional Office shines with 3S Certification

We are delighted to share with you that our Hyderabad office has achieved the 3S certification, a prestigious recognition for workplace organization and improvement. The 3S certification is part of the 5S methodology, which aims to

create a clean, safe and efficient work environment, optimizing space and standardizing processes.

Our Hyderabad office underwent a rigorous audit by M/s. Qualicon services on November 1st, the same external agency that audits our Pune office for 5S. The audit results were outstanding: our Hyderabad office scored a whopping 98% in the 3S audit, the highest among all our branches. This reflects our dedication to excellence and quality in everything we do. As part of the 3S implementation, we also upgraded the workstations of all our employees to improve their comfort and productivity. We are grateful to the Kirloskar Pneumatic Company’s QA team for their support and training in helping us adopt the 3S principles in our office. We also appreciate the efforts of our Hyderabad team for their enthusiasm and commitment in making this happen. We look forward to maintaining and enhancing our 3S standards in our office.

3S Certification for Kolkata Regional Office

On September 15, 2023, M/s Qualicon Services, an external agency, carried out an external audit for 3S at the Kolkata Regional Office. Mr. Vikash Dharmadhikari was in charge of these audits.

With 99%, the Kolkata Regional Office is eligible for the 3S level. The entire team at the Kolkata Regional Office has contributed actively and made efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the 3S.

The teams' dedication to the 3S implementation, visual management, and ongoing improvement was appreciated by the external auditor.

Corporate QA led teams in the adoption of 3S and carried out 3S training. The certificate from the Kolkata Regional Office is good till September 14, 2026.

A Milestone in Maritime Cooling: Introducing

Magnetic Bearing Compressor AC to Indian Naval Fleet

We, ACR – Marine Business Group provide solutions for Air Conditioning (AC) and Refrigeration needs of the Indian Naval Ships. Our product range starts from as small as 0.5 TR and extends up to 800 TR. Our AC and Refrigeration Plants are operating on almost every class of Indian Navy Ships such as Aircraft Carriers, Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes, Tankers, Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels, Survey Vessels, Special Purpose Vessels, Conventional Submarines and Nuclear Submarines.

The performance and reliability of AC and Refrigeration Plants onboard Ships is of paramount importance for efficiency of weapons, machinery and high level of crew effectiveness. In view of this, Indian Navy has reposed their trust by making Kirloskar Pneumatic Company an approved and preferred supplier for AC and Refrigeration Plants.

Before the year of 2015, the AC Plants onboard Indian Navy Ships were using conventional lubricating oil- based compressors. During the last decade there is a development in the technology and oil free centrifugal compressors with magnetic bearings are developed for Air Conditioning applications. Hence, the Indian Navy has decided to induct AC Plants with Magnetic Bearing Compressors onboard frontline warships in view of advantages such as oil free machine, low noise and vibrations, compact size, light weight etc. However, to include the name of any company in the approved supplier list of the IN, there was a criterion to supply one such machine on a trial basis onboard IN Ship to demonstrate technological capabilities. Hence, we

had designed, developed and installed a 160TR AC Plant with Magnetic Bearing Compressor onboard one of the Destroyer Ship of the Indian Navy. This Plant is operating very satisfactorily since February, 2023. Therefore, Indian Navy has included our name in the list of approved suppliers for AC Plants with Magnetic Bearing Compressor.

Based on this in November, 2023, we had received a formal enquiry from the PSU Shipyard for supply, installation and commissioning of 3 numbers of 144TR MBC AC Plants. The major challenges in this were understanding competition pricing strategy and convincing our technical specifications to the customer as competitors were supported by foreign companies. With the support of all the Team Members of ACR, on 15th December 2023, we have successfully convinced the customer with our very first set of 3 numbers of 144TR Magnetic Bearing Compressor AC Plants along with accessories such as Seawater Condenser, Cooling Pumps and Chilled Water Pumps.

Wishing all the best to the ACR Marine Team to successfully deliver, install and commission these AC Plants in order to foster the long business relationship with the Indian Navy and its stakeholders.

Voith Hydro joins hands with Kirloskar Pneumatic for Hydro Turbine Gearbox

Voith Hydro, a global leader in hydropower turbine technology, has reposed confidence in Kirloskar Pneumatic Gearboxes for hydro turbine applications believing in our reliability and precision. Voith will provide 2 x 2.5 MW turbines to Vietnam, with the drive from the turbine rotor to the generator transmitted through gearboxes manufactured by Kirloskar Pneumatic's Transmission Division.

Hydro Turbine drive is a critical duty requiring very sturdy & precisely manufactured Gearboxes as they serve as a vital link to transmit the torque to the generator. Gearbox must be highly efficient as well so as not to lose on power generation.

This requirement has been materialized by Transmission Division’s Marketing & Engineering Team in the month of Dec '23.

Kirloskar Pneumatic will be supplying two such Gearboxes and they will be exported to Vietnam by Voith along with their Turbines.

Synergy in Quality Supplier' Appreciation to Company's Initiatives

AutoMech has a business association with Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited since 2018. Initially, the business started with a few canopy models and now has become the pioneer supplier for industrial canopies due to its continuous excellence in quality, development, and delivery promises.

AutoMech has always participated in various initiatives organized by Kirloskar Pneumatic Company focusing on Quality Improvements, Cost reduction & various competitions held during Quality Month. Over the past three years, AutoMech has clinched the Best Improvement Awards, showcasing our dedication to excellence.

In 2022, Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited honoured M/s AutoMech India Pvt Ltd with the prestigious Best Supplier Award. This recognition is a testament to our outstanding performance in the delivery and quality of Oxygen compressor canopies. Notably, AutoMech stands out as the first canopy supplier to implement the Supplier Quality Improvement Program (SQIP).

With an initial project cost of INR 18 lakhs, the journey towards digital transformation commenced after the end of Q1 FY'23. The brainchild of a dedicated team driven by the vision of improving conventional

inspection methods, the project aimed to reduce time and ensure error-free inspections. Guided by the wisdom of senior mentors, the team embarked on a journey of exploration and innovation.

The decision to embrace digitization for the inspection process marked a pivotal moment in the project's trajectory. With the concept presented to top management, detailed discussions ensued to tailor the solution to the specific needs of the QA team. Suppliers were meticulously evaluated, and IoTbased digital instruments were chosen to align with the project's objectives. The results speak volumes of the project's success. Not only has the digitalized inspection process saved an average of 30 minutes per component, but it has also eradicated manual errors over the past five months. Achieving a GRR clearance within three days for 85% of

Kirloskar Pneumatic ACR team has conducted Khione - Screw Refrigeration Compressor Introduction event at New Delhi on 19th Oct. 2023 for valued customers, OEMs and contractors. Mr. Sunil Nair (AVP – ACR Division) and Mr. Harshad Vaidya as well graced the occasion with their presence. ACR Team displayed the Khione block to the guests and explained its features and wide range of industrial applications. Men’s Cricket League – 2023 Dreams come true…

ACD Customer Service & Spares – Team Rafale

Day one, there was a royal stage set up with our Honourable MD Sir addressing the teams and motivating all….. His lines, ‘You have come here for a competitive win and not to just participate’, this line stuck in our minds…MD Sir’s opening motivational speech was instrumental in boosting our confidence.

As a routine, we participated in the interdepartmental Cricket League year after year. Every year, we used to win a match or two maximum. This year, we pulled up our socks. Our best players were identified, the batting lineup, the bowling line-up, and the and the fielding positions were decided..we had a series of brainstorming sessions in our conference room..

Practice makes a man perfect…We practiced on a narrow pitch on a field besides Honeywell daily for a couple of months…We understood our strengths and focused on them. We decided to approach each match with positive frame of mind.

The first match was phenomenal; we scored a whopping 136 runs in 6 overs and won by a substantial margin… This had set the tone; other teams took us seriously now… We knew we were going out for something big this time.

Then came the final sessions…Dreams do come true… We suggested our Team to dream the previous night; we would be holding the cup…Snapshot of our WhatsApp chat -

We played close encounters, beating competitive teams in a row, and reached the Finale…(almost after four matches)…Wow..this was

phenomenal and unbelievable...

In the finals, we lost to our ACD Saswad Team…they were good enough…But our boys played well too… We lost somewhere in our minds. There is always a next time… We will go with a tough mindset next time..

Now was the time to lift the Runner-up Trophy….Our joy knew no bounds as we received the Runner up Trophy from our Honourable Aman Sir….. This was the proudest moment for us, and our happiness was limitless. Aman Sir appreciated us for playing well, and his appreciation was the wow moment of the tournament for us…We did celebrate the moment and had a sound sleep with smiling faces..

Finally, I would like to mention the valuable efforts of our Human Resource team and earnestly thank our Team HR for the outstanding arrangement of the Kirloskar Pneumatic Inter Department Cricket League…Every aspect was class apart…The lavish grass ground, grand opening and closing sessions, Trophies, Tents for Teams, Breakfast, drinks and Lunch served, mobile washrooms, Professional Umpires and the list goes on…HR team was well supported by our Cricket Committee, whose relentless efforts ensured a classic Tournament…

Safety in any industry is of utmost importance. Nothing else will be above safety. I wish to narrate an incident in my career, to convey that any work must be done in a safe manner.

Many years ago, I was in an Oil & Gas platform in Middle East. It was a new gas injection platform, which was under commissioning. My job was to commission 3 gas compressors, compressing gas at 400 barg. The scary thing was the H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide) content in the gas. It was 50 to 60%. H2S is a highly toxic and poisonous gas. If one inhales this gas at 100 ppm, it will lead to death. So, everyone on the platform has to undergo a mandatory H2S survival training. Each person had to carry a small oxygen cylinder, a personal H2S monitor, which alarms at 15 ppm.

As said, commissioning work was happening. I had started the compressor and gas pressure was crossing 300 barg. The discharge of the compressor was connected to an injection manifold, few feet

away from the Compressor package. I could smell H2S in the air and my personal monitor started beeping. Looking at the wind direction sock, I moved to a safer spot and informed the control room of the H2S leak. One operator came over, found a tubing ferrule leaking. He disregarded safety and started tightening the tubing nut with a wrench. His alarm was going off too. Suddenly the tubing cracked and instantly released a blast of gas at 300 barg. The operator fell to the platform floor. I immediately donned my oxygen mask, ran to him, and put on his oxygen mask and turned on the oxygen flow. The personal cylinder would only last for 5 minutes. I had to act quickly to save him. He was losing consciousness. I dragged the operator to a safer location and connected his oxygen hose to the platform oxygen supply and turned on the hyperbaric flow of oxygen. Fortunately, he was breathing and his pulse was obvious. All this while, we were in an area where we were surrounded by H2S.

I could not use the walkietalkie to convey the message to the control room. I had no choice but to hit the Emergency safety button, shutting down the platform operation. Once this was done, I checked upon the operator, ensured he was

breathing and ran to the nearest safe cabin and called the control room informing the situation. Emergency response team was mobilised, carrying the operator to the platform clinic. Helicopter was summoned (about 1.5 hours from the nearest airport). The operator was sent to the shore and admitted in a hospital. The next day, we heard that he was fine and no serious issues were imminent.

The platform Offshore Installation Manager appreciated my quick action in this scenario. The H2S survival training I underwent helped me to save myself and the operator.

The moral of this incident for me –Know the dangers surrounding us. Remember the training lessons and apply it.

The moral for the operator – Don’t undertake to do work unsafely. Never try to tighten any joint, which has internal pressure.

Moreover, the session didn't shy away from the technical aspects, offering an in-depth analysis and simulation of centrifugal compressors.

Beyond the theoretical realm, the session also explored practical applications of compressed air, illustrating its diverse uses across industries.

The ‘Indian Biogas Association’ (IBA), in collaboration with the Ministry of New Renewable Energy, India, is spearheading the promotion of Biogas generation and Compressed Biogas (BIO-CNG) usage in the country. showcased its expertise in gas compression system integration and BIO-CNG product offerings through its PGS Sales Team members Tushar Tyagi, Mukarram Sayyed and Minar Ravanank.

I got an opportunity to be part of this event as a speaker for a conference on Bio-CNG Compression technology and challenges. In

this event, I presented Kirloskar Pneumatic’s solution to one of the major challenges faced by the Bio CNG compression system. Due to variations in gas generation and purification flow rates, it becomes difficult to operate plants continuously leading to intermittent operation and economic loss. With a capacity control technique

introduced by Kirloskar Pneumatic for high pressure applications like a 250 bar CNG compression system, plants can effectively tackle the flow variation and keep the plants operating without any shutdowns. During the panel discussion, I could also interact with various experts in the field which helped to exchange knowledge related to the BIO-CNG business.

The event facilitated networking opportunities and knowledge exchange among industry experts. With nearly 80,000 attendees, including gas purification companies, consultants, and start-up entrepreneurs, Kirloskar Pneumatic Company reinforced its presence in the BIO-CNG compression sector.

Design and Development

Garudmachi ..... An Incredible learning experience!

One day we received an email from our HR about our nomination for the two days outbound training at Garudmachi! It was exclusively meant for Team Saswad.

This email triggered lot of curiosity in mind about the nature of training and initiated discussions within the participants. We were instructed to carry out the personal kit inclusive of sport shoes, windcheater etc. This aroused the curiosity further. None of our colleagues had visited this place before. This compelled us to reach to our nowadays common friend ‘Mr. Google’.

But there is very limited information available on internet and that was not enough to know it better.

In next couple of days, HR conducted a short meeting to convey the details regarding arrangements done for the training. MD Sir addressed all of us and provided us valuable guidance and direction. Clarity of purpose is utmost important for any activity. It navigates us to the objective.

Finally, the day arrived. It was 3rd Nov. Pre Diwali vibes. We set out early morning at 5 from Saswad. Bus was arranged. One bus, one team. We picked up all members one by one from their respective pick-up points planned prior on the way.

It was roughly hundred kilometers journey from the start point. The morning ride was very pleasant through lush green trees and water bodies along the road. It took almost three hours to reach the destination.

Garudmaachi development center is placed in the Tamhini Ghat section of Sahyadri on the hills amidst dense forest.

Team high places welcomed us warmly at the entry gate. They quickly briefed us on safety and program outline. Safety is slowly becoming part of culture everywhere. We were divided in groups of five. Thirty members. Six groups. Grouping activity itself starts creating a sense of one team. We were allotted tents to stay.

The tents were extremely clean and neat. They were well equipped. It was a different stay experience. We took charge of our tent, quickly put the luggage and rushed for breakfast in nearby cafeteria. Breakfast was delicious and healthy. We were told to gather outside the cafeteria as we finished the breakfast. Then, we got divided in two large groups and three trainers were allotted per group. We named our group as ‘Shivneri’.

We proceeded towards a big hut which was actually a Training Hall. It was aesthetically so beautiful !

There is a small story for the name ‘Garudmachi’. When high places were setting activities in their initial phase, the hilltop was the nest of Eagle. The camp is just at the bottom of that hill. Machi stands for Hill and Garud stands for Eagle in Marathi. So, the name Garudmachi. Now eagles can be rarely seen but this name is visible everywhere.

The program was well designed. No classroom stuff. We went through group activities; physical in nature. These physical tasks make you think of importance of team building, walking path together and achieving goals. The very popular game is of passing the ring through

Second game was of passing imaginary sea with blind eyes. It makes us realize the importance of communication while achieving the targets with minimal resources. That gives birth to many novel ideas as well.

High places team conducts number of different activities based on the needs of the teams and training duration but one thing is sure that “I” becomes “We” post that training. Next day, they took us to trekking on the hill behind. Indian cricket team has also done this. It is such a good experience. They provide all safety gears which are necessary to climb the hill. Nature offers us so much; we realize when we try to be with it closely. It provides physical tenacity and calmness of mind. It is all there available in abundance but such training provides us eye to see this, mind to absorb this and inspires to write a bit to inspire others.

A Passionate Journey with KPCL!

Icompleted my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 2002. Since ours was the first batch passed out from Modern College of Engineering, Pune, campus job opportunities were rare. I started my career with a very small-scale manufacturing unit (a supplier of TATA Motors for Gear Box Shifter Sleeves). 11 months of experience in this unit really taught me well, right from tool grinding to the delivery of finished components to the parent companies.

I was struggling to get a better job opportunity at a renowned organisation. One fine morning, I was at the KPCL main gate and handed over my resume to one of the security personnel. On 2nd December 2003, I got a call for an interview and finally joined as a ‘Company Trainee’ on a 6-month contract basis. For those new to the corporate world, there is no choice to select the required function, as posted in the Quality Assurance Department. This was really a turning point in my professional career.

I had to prove myself during these six months. I was working in the Reciprocating Compressor assembly & testing area. The shop floor knowledge that I could get from my colleagues,

superiors, and especially from the workers while doing the work with them was flourishing, and till today, it is helping me to confidently face any situation to convert the deals. However, I realised that only the fulfilment of routine activities will not help me to fix my position in the organisation after 6 months. I started the 5-S activity in the assembly and testing area, while the rest of the organisation was not so attentive to this activity. The unimaginable benefits of 5-S activity (increased FTAs, zero LTBs, high morale, etc.) really impressed the Production Manager as well as the QA Head. This helped me to get another 6-month extension with assurance of a confirmed position in the organisation from HR Department, and I had been appointed as a 'Senior Engineer' in KPCL.

I started my activities in top gear. Study of sales orders, preparation and getting approvals of QAPs from customers and consultants, executing inspection activities as per QAPs, RITES inspection of Railway Brake compressors and RBC Spare parts, co-ordination with the sales team, and handling of third-party inspections, and equipment predispatch inspections were the key responsibilities. Being the highestranking Kaizen maker in the company, I could standardise all these QA activities.

Due to my family business background and continuous touch with the ACD Sales team, I was attracted to the sales and marketing function during this period

of 2–3 years. Parallelly, I started my external education in marketing management and completed my MBA in marketing in 2007. Finally, I got the opportunity to work in the ACD Equipment Sales and Marketing department. Making proposals, providing technocommercial support to branches, and coordinating the entire India Reciprocating Service Team were the key result areas until 2009. Still, I wanted to explore new things and expressed them to the management. KPCL management took it positively, and I got an opportunity to work in the ACD spare parts department, wherein we had to overcome various challenges like the conversion of lost boys, setting up processes for the department, speeding up market support activities, retaining the reciprocating compressor population, searching for new business avenues, etc. This resulted in sustainable growth for the ACD Spare parts department, which was geared up to attain 100 crore sales. In this limitless journey, I still have a long way to go before I cross many more milestones.

Dear friends, I made this attempt to put forth my story of struggle and passion to inspire youth. The growth does not come by simply switching employers. You need to search for opportunities for your own growth within the organisation.

Miracle Millets: Celebrating the Nutritional Bounty

In 2023, the world celebrated the International Year of Millets, and Kirloskar Pneumatic Management joined the festivities with ‘Miracle Millets’ on every Wednesday.

On May 2nd, 2023, the celebration commenced with a traditional drink called Ambil, made from fermented Ragi. Every Wednesday thereafter, a variety of milletbased breakfast and lunch options were served, including Nachani Chapattis, Nachani Ambil, Nachani Dosa/Uttappam, Jowar Puthale, Jowar Kadhi, Nachani Sheera, Nachani Laddoo, Millet salads, and more.

Importance and information about millets, highlighting their qualities such as high fiber content, essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and gluten-free nature, were communicated through posters and email. Millets offer numerous health benefits including aiding digestion, improving appetite, enhancing blood quality, promoting lactation, balancing stomach function, and inducing better sleep. Commonly used millets

include Finger Millets (Ragi, Nachani), Sorghum or Jowar, Pearl Millet (Bajra), Warai, and Rala.

Apart from sharing the benefits of ‘Miracle Millets’, we also shared the recipes of our preparations with employees under our another initiative ‘The Millet Kitchen’ so that everyone can reap Millet benefits at home as well.

The festival aimed to raise awareness and introduce the nutritional richness of millets to employees' palates. Special thanks to the Management and Believers from both Hadapsar and Saswad for their support and the opportunity to showcase our culinary skills while serving delicious millet-based dishes.

And The Sun Came Out

“Guys, lets launch your rocket!” As euphonious as those words were to me, louder was the roar of the south eastern winds in Brazil that made our journey from the Assembly Area to the Launch Pad as challenging as it could get.

Me and my friends- the members of the STES ROCKETRY TEAM left from Mumbai for Sao Paulo, Brazil on 15th August 2023 to participate in the Latin America Space Challenge 2023, scheduled to take place at Cape Canavial, Tatui, Sao Paulo from August 24 to 27, 2023.

We reached Sao Paulo city on the evening of 16th August and stayed there till the 23rd to reassemble our rocket- STELLAR EYE, and to reactivate all the subsystems that landed in Brazil as components and parts in a Big Black Bag that survived the security check at the Qatar layover. Afterall, we WERE making a rocket!

With the help of the collective efforts of our team members, the locals at the electronics market and the google translate, the STELLAR EYE was ready to be shipped to Tatui, and we reached there on the beautiful sunny afternoon of the 23rd. On 24th August, the Registration & Conference Day held at the FATEC Tatui. It was a pleasant day, so much so that we all dipped in our pool before we went on for the event. We were received warmly by Calvin Trubine, the competition organiser, and our friends from other teams from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. We were also asked to do an impromptu presentation on our payload, LEVIthe acoustic levitator, because of the attention that its innovation grabbed.

The next day i.e. the 25th, we all reached Cape Canavial for the Safety Review at 8 am BRT where around 2000 rocketeers from 13 countries and 150 teams were present. We all posed with our team flags and national flags for the group photo, shot with a drone, under the sun. The Launch Day 1 began…

On the vast tabletop grassland of Cape Canavial, teams were required to set up their tents in the Assembly Area, where they would assemble their rockets then report to the Command Centre to ask for a Flight Readiness Review and when we got a green flag, submit it to the Command Centre to call for the truck that drives 4 members of the team to the Launch Pad 800m away and brings them to the Launch Tent, 300m from the Launch Pad for the team to press the Launch Button.

By 2pm, as we were in the final stages of the assembly, we could see the Brazilian south eastern winds bringing some grey clouds to us. And by 2:30 pm, tents were being blown away by the cold winds, but no rain. With 7 members holding our tent and 5 members finishing the assembly, we finished our assembly by 3:30pm and asked for the Flight Readiness Review. We got a green flag in the firstgo and me and Chitrath went to report it to the Command Centre. Calvin said, “Guys, lets launch your rocket!” in his distinct Brazilian accent. We were thrilled and went

back running to our teammates to give the message and we all carried the fully loaded rocket on our shoulders to the Command Centre and by 4:30pm me and 3 other teammates were on the truck that drove us to the Launch Pad. We were loading our rocket on Launch Rail 1 off three with two more teams doing the same, when the winds started intensifying and it grew darker. We fixed the Stellar Eye on the rail and started running back to the Launch Tent when a light drizzle started. We joined our teammates and the two

more for the cold than the excitement as IT began.

IGNITE… our rocket didn’t take off, neither did the other two. The ignitors couldn’t ignite the rockets because of the cold winds and the drizzle and the launches were suspended that day and postponed to the next day. We came back to our cottage cold and weak but we had to work all night to recharge the batteries and reassemble the rocket.

The next day when we arrived at the Cape Canavial, it was colder, wetter, and muddier than the day before. With the weather forecast not getting any better and the launches halted, Calvin declared “This is the worst day in the history of LASC.” Everyone hoped for the sun to come out. The rain stopped around 11am and all the teams that were ready, rushed to make use of this opportunity.

We loaded the rocket yet again… Ready for Launch… Press Button…10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1..

IGNITE… our rocket didn’t take off AGAIN. The 2nd one didn’t, and then the 3rd rocket took off but couldn’t be launch successfully. We were asked to unload our rocket again. We were disheartened and very tensed because more than 50% of the rockets that were managing to take off that day were not getting the optimum flight i.e. the launch failed or the rockets undershot w.r.t the height category they competed for.

We got another go at 5pm. The wait had tested us physically and mentally. With as much as four layers of clothes on our bodies, we were all shivering with cold as we went to load our rocket on Launch Rail 2. This time 4 ignitors

were being used to ignite our rocket. Ready for Launch… Press Button… 10..9..8..7..6. .5..4..3..2..1..

IGNITE…!

It took off… it was a successful launch!

BUT, it undershot. Our rocket, the STELLAR EYE, did not reach the expected height of 1000m.

We all felt bad because we knew it meant us not winning the 1km Rocket Challenge. We sat together and consoled each other. A few, including me, were in good spirits as we looked at the brighter side and we proposed a pizza-party to celebrate our effort in these testing conditions. We went back to our cottage and pizza-partied. It was also a farewell to some of our seniors. With our stomachs full of pizzas that felt like warm hugs, we slept through the next morning.

On the 27th afternoon, we went and recovered our rocket. That evening the prize distribution ceremony took place and the first 3 ranks in each category were announced. With the special mentions of our rocket design and our payload, we were very sure about winning the first prize before the launch but we knew we had missed it and we did not win any prizes that night.

Next day, we all were packing up, loading our van to leave Tatui, AND THE SUN CAME OUT.

About a month after we came back from Brazil, the results were declared. We ranked 4th worldwide in the 1km Target Category and 10th overall. We were also ranked 3rd in Satellite Challenge for our payload.

It was a celebratory moment for us but the thought of ‘what if’ stayed and stays.

We did not win the competition this time but we are stronger than ever having faced the challenges and having learnt the lessons. We are all very proud of the way we kept fighting and the character shown by our team and we are all determined to win the upcoming Spaceport America Cup 2024 to be held in June 2024 in New Mexico, USA.

Dunzo is another example of Blue Ocean strategy highly different from Zomato or Swiggy. It has an unlimited space without any competition in it.

The new system has doubled the sectors to reflect the new industry territories created by the Blue Oceans. The profit margins are very high in this space. UTravel Trek Thrill

nseen, unexplored and unexpected, that’s how the journey has been ever since I had started exploring the outskirts. Here, I am talking about my journey ranging from mountains, valleys, heritage cities and many more in the last two years. During the COVID-19 times, I started to explore the small mountains near my home which is near the city of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. Initially, it was once a week, but later on, it became a daily routine for me to go to Ganesh Tekdi, located near Himayat Bagh in the city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Slowly, I started to develop an interest in trekking in particular and I decided to move towards the high-level mountain ranges. In June 2021, I went to popularly known as the marvel of the Sahyadri Mountain ranges, the Harishchandragad. I was accompanied by a local travelling group from my city with some experienced mountaineers on board with us as trek guides. They were telling us small details regarding the trek, and also the small things to be taken care of while trekking in the mountains. The most popular Kokankada and the atmosphere during the monsoon in the Sahyadri mountain ranges astonished me. First time ever, I was experiencing something spectacular like this. It was indeed a memorable trek and thereon I decided to continue my further journey exploring the mountains around. After coming back from the Harishchandragad, I surmounted all the small hills and mountains near my city.

Thereafter, I came to Pune for the rest of the graduation course halted due to COVID-19. Unknowingly, I found myself placed in the heart of one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in the world and, Sahyadri and the Pune district is blessed to have most of it. So, most of my weekends, I started to go on hikes. Initially, I started going alone, but slowly the interested friends and people nearby got used to joining me. We explored the forts, valleys, and small hills around the Pune City. There are many aspects apart from travelling while visiting the places. It was about meeting new communities, exploring biodiversity around and of course experiencing the different details of the Sahyadri mountain ranges. Gradually, I realized there are lots of people around me who have similar interests, but they don’t find likeminded people for exploring the same. So, I along with my constant partners on the trek decided to build a community named ‘Travel Trek Thrill’. Right now, we are a community of around 250 people and we receive a decent count for every trek, whenever we plan for the community. I consider myself fortunate to be able to visit unique places every time I go. It may be a mountain, a heritage site etc. It has been a wonderful journey for me till now and I will keep it up as much as possible. Along with travelling, I developed and am still learning the skills of photography, videography and vlogs. I consider these as a part and parcel of my journey. I am fond of putting all the stuff on Social Media frequently not only to showcase the content but for the people who may not get to visit the places.
