Foreword

Energy is a cornerstone of economic development. As global economic growth accelerates, the rising demand for energy places significant pressure on conventional resources leading to their depletion and contributing to climate change. This has resulted in an energy crisis and rise in electricity costs. To address these challenges, it is essential to prioritise energy efficiency and resource conservation which not only support sustainable development but also mitigate carbon emissions and combat climate change.

Energy efficiency in fluid management is more than an immediate cost-saving measure –it is a long-term commitment to sustainability and resilience. Over a pump’s lifecycle, energy consumption contributes the most to its overall costs, far exceeding initial purchase and maintenance expenses. Key factors such as the pump design and operational conditions significantly

influence energy usage. Aligning these factors is critical to minimising energy and maintenance costs throughout the pump’s operational life.

For a rapidly growing economy like India, adopting energy-efficient systems is essential for driving industrial growth, meeting environmental goals and conserving precious resources. Leading the Way in Energy-Efficient Pumping Solutions

As industries worldwide are increasingly focusing on reducing their environmental impact, the demand for energy-efficient pumps has never been greater. Sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, power generation and water management, are all seeking solutions that minimise energy consumption while maintaining performance and reliability. Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) has been a trailblazer, delivering innovative, energyefficient and environmentally sustainable fluid management solutions for industries like building and construction, oil and gas, marine and defence, as well as the agricultural and domestic sectors.

KBL’s High-Performance, Energy-Saving Pumps

At the forefront of KBL’s energy-efficient product lineup is the end suction pump DBxe. Featuring an optimised hydraulic design, the DBxe pump series significantly reduces energy consumption while delivering top-tier performance. Complying with international standards, this pump boasts a Minimum Efficiency Index (MEI) of ≥ 0.7, which ensures lower electricity costs and a reduced environmental footprint for consumers.

The Lowest Life-cycle Cost (LLC™) pump series, engineered to lower energy and maintenance

costs, is equally impressive. This series ensures significant cost savings while boosting profitability by maintaining high performance throughout the pump’s life cycle. A prime example of its impact is our project for Magarpatta Township, where replacing six conventional submersible pumps with three LLC™ Pumps equipped with 160 KW KBL IE2 motors and VFD panels resulted in significant annual power savings and a payback period of just 16 months. The installation’s integration with KirloSmart™, an IoT-based remote monitoring system, ensures continuous pump health tracking, optimal performance and preventive maintenance. This further enhances operational efficiency and provides a reliable water supply for large-scale township developments.

Moreover, the DBxe and LLC™ series’ horizontal splitcase pumps have earned the prestigious GreenPro Ecolabel certification – a Type-1 Ecolabel accredited by the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). This recognition underscores KBL’s commitment to sustainable solutions and its dedication to advancing environmentally friendly technologies.

To meet the growing energy requirements in the industrial sector, KBL has designed Pump as Turbine (PAT) and PICO—unique pumping

solutions that can be operated in reverse as turbines for generating electricity from flowing water. PICO is generally used for meeting smaller energy requirements (up to 5 kW) while PAT can meet comparatively higher energy requirements (up to 1000 kW). The initial cost of PAT solution is almost half the cost of a conventional hydro turbine of equivalent size facilitating better returns on investment. KBL’s PAT solution, implemented at projects like the Tansa Dam, with an annual power generation capacity of 350,000 units, helps reduce energy costs while providing an alternative solution to combat global warming making it ideal for hydropower supply for manufacturing setups, buildings, hotels and more in remote or hilly areas.

KBL provides comprehensive solutions for the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems with its vertical inline pumps KW-LC and KW-SC. These close-coupled, single-stage centrifugal pumps offer superior efficiency with an MEI of more than 0.7, making them ideal for HVAC applications where energy efficiency and reliability are critical. KBL’s self-priming coupled pump sets and monobloc pumps, equipped with ultra-premium IE4 and IE5 class motors, enhance efficiency by offering lower operational costs and reduced payback times. Our energyefficient Pressure Boosting Hydro-Pneumatic (HYPN) System delivers reliable on-demand water supply with low maintenance and long-lasting

performance. It is one of the most cost-effective pressure-boosting solutions worldwide. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has awarded Star ratings to 432 of our products for their excellence in energy efficiency. Our LIFTER pump series and 6-inch oil-filled submersible pumps offer higher efficiency and lower power consumption. Our KVM series has also received the India Design Mark from the India Design Council.
