OPENING LETTER

Welcome families!

My name is Khadijah Banks, and I attend KIPP Lanning Square Middle, where our goals as students are to be revolutionary, make a difference and do our best no matter our circumstances.

Due to COVID-19, the past couple of years we’ve experienced some adversities and successes. A major struggle that my classmates and I had was learning online instead of in the classroom. When we returned to our classrooms this year, it brought me joy and some relief because I could finally interact with many different students and teachers. I would like to give a shout out to my teachers for creating an environment where I could grow, fight for my education, and strive to be the best I could be.

I would like to welcome you to the student-led spring edition of TEAM and Family Magazine, in which students like me, families, and staff have shared their voices. The topics include:

STUDENT GOVERNMENT LEADER REFLECTIONS This edition features two student government leaders at KIPP High School, Kevin Pellot and Aniyah Byers, on page 6.

A SPOTLIGHT ON OUR FAMILIES Meet Ms. Fonseca, who goes above and beyond to support her school community at KIPP Lanning Square Primary on page 8.

MENTAL HEALTH REFLECTIONS KIPP Whittier students worked together to present different perspectives on how their school supports mental health on page 10.

I hope that in the future, Camden and many other cities become places where every student can receive a high level of education; they shouldn’t have to settle for anything less!

Best Regards,

Khadijah Banks 8th grader, KIPP Lanning Square Middle
