“A lot of the growth in my PARCC score for English came from my AP class with Mr. Fleming. He gave us a lot of readings! Before I was born, my parents made a vow to each other that I would be the first in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree. The focus KIPP put on college in middle school, and my parents’ drive, helped me understand that education was the key to success. I graduated from Mount Holyoke with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Mandarin last May and am currently putting my degree to work as a financial analyst with Wells Fargo in Atlanta. With my degree, a lot of doors opened for me. Recognizing that financial literacy is a key to narrowing the wealth gap, I plan to take the knowledge I gain in the corporate world and use it to empower other black women to take control of their destiny through stronger financial planning.

Veronica Avery Veronica Avery joined KIPP NJ in 2013 and is now a founding member of our KIPP NJ School Leader Fellowship program designed to prepare future KIPP NJ school leaders and assistant principals who share our vision of educational equity and have the ability to drive our ambitious goals for students and teachers. “The leadership lessons I have learned during this year working with my mentor leader have been priceless. The Sterlings The Sterling Family has advocated and supported KIPP New Jersey since 2006 when Linda Sterling walked through the doors of KIPP TEAM Academy as one of the school’s first tutors. Spending hours in our classrooms alongside our teachers and students, she became one of our most dedicated volunteers and soon joined our Board of Trustees. KIPP New Jersey has grown to a state-wide organization serving thousands more kids and more than a decade later, Linda is still a champion for KIPP New Jersey and a committed tutor at TEAM. And now her involvement has become a family affair. Linda’s husband, Brian, serves on the KIPP New Jersey finance committee, daughter Emma has chaperoned field trips with our middle school students and is now a teacher with Teach for America in Arkansas, and son Aaron has volunteered and interned in our offices.
