FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2025 Today, as we say farewell to the graduating class of 2025, I want to acknowledge not just their achievements, of which there have been many, but the values they have demonstrated throughout their time here. Many of our graduates are exceptional musicians, athletes, creators, dramatists, scholars and leaders. Their Showcase was beyond exceptional. But beyond those accomplishments, what truly makes me proud is the way they have contributed to the life of our School community, showing commitment, kindness, and a willingness to serve others. It is the choices we make today that shape our future character, and they have chosen well. This cohort have shown us through their actions a genuine care and concern for the welfare of others, particularly for those whose life journeys have been less fortunate than our own. They have proven time and time again to be resilient, dedicated and supportive of one another. I want to particularly acknowledge our school leaders, our Head Prefects - Grace Simpson and Nick Tancred, the Prefects and Captains for their outstanding service, example and commitment. To every member of this graduating class, thank you for your contributions. You have made our school a better place, and we are deeply grateful. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the dedication of our fabulous teachers and staff. Your passion for education, your care, and your guidance have been instrumental in assisting our students reach this milestone. On behalf of our students, parents and the entire school community, I extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. To our parents and families, congratulations. This success is not just a celebration of your child’s accomplishments, but also a recognition of your unwavering support throughout their journey. We know that the road has not always been smooth, but your love, patience and encouragement have brought them here today. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for the countless hours you have devoted to supporting school activities and fostering our very special community. To our graduates, know that we are proud of you – not just for your academic or co-curricular success, but for the individuals you have become. You have approached school life with great enthusiasm and have been dedicated and determined in your desire to learn. Remember that your academic results do not define you. Life is much bigger than exams and qualifications. Your true success lies in the choices you make from this moment onward, choices that will be governed by your character. It is how you live your life, the kindness you show, the respect you give, and the contributions you make to your community that will truly matter. I have been enormously impressed by your openness, friendliness and ‘can do’ attitude. You have integrity and authenticity, highly admirable qualities that have been shaped by your regional backgrounds and the country spirit that pervades our school community. This, combined with your natural confidence and warmth, are highly valuable personal attributes that you must never lose. As you commence your journeys into the future, I would like to leave you with three reflections, not instructions — for you are ready to chart your own course. I offer encouragement in three directions: • to live a life of contribution • to be brave enough to stay true to your values and aspirations • and to keep a sense of perspective. First, contribution: It is tempting, in our world, to measure success by what we gain — wealth, recognition, achievement. But true fulfilment — as history, philosophy, and faith traditions remind us — lies not in what we accumulate, but in what we give. Winston Churchill remarked: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Each of you has been blessed with gifts and opportunities. With such privilege comes responsibility: to use what you have gained not only for your own advancement, but for the good of others. Contribution is not only about grand gestures. • it is about generosity of time • acts of kindness • the willingness to listen • the courage to stand with those who are vulnerable. Contribution may be as simple as mentoring a younger colleague, supporting a friend or giving your energy to a cause greater than yourself. In the end, the true measure of your life will not be what you accomplish for yourself — but what you give to others. Second, courage: Courage is not just the heroism of battle or discovery. It is the daily determination to live with integrity. To remain true to your values. To follow your aspirations — even when the world tells you to take an easier path. Nelson Mandela stated: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” And you will feel fear. Fear of failure. Fear of being judged. Fear of standing out. But the call of courage is to act despite those fears. As you leave here, remember this school has sought to give you not only knowledge, but also a moral compass. It has asked you to consider not only “What can I do?” but “What should I do?” Hold fast to those questions. They will serve you well. Third, perspective: Life will give you triumph. Life will also give you disappointments. Perspective is the gift that keeps both in balance. In success, perspective reminds us to stay humble and grateful. In setback, perspective teaches us that failure is not final. It is often the very soil in which resilience and wisdom grow. Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor and philosopher, wrote, “You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.” You cannot control every circumstance but you can control your response. And perspective also means remembering what matters most. Not fame. Not possessions. Not even worldly success. What matters most — are relationships. The Harvard Study of Adult Development — one of the longest studies ever conducted — concluded this: The single greatest predictor of happiness and health is not wealth, not status, not even achievement, but the quality of our relationships. Cherish them. Invest in them. Know too, that some of the friendships that you have formed here at school will remain the deepest and most sustaining throughout your life. And so, Year 12, as you step into the next stage of your lives, I offer you this hope: • That you will give generously of yourselves • That you will live courageously, in line with your values • That you will hold fast to perspective - through the highs and the lows. The poet Mary Oliver once asked, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Your answer will not be written in a single moment. It will be written in the choices you make — day by day, year by year. We are proud of you. We celebrate who you are and who you are becoming. Go with gratitude for what has been given to you. Go with courage to live authentically. Go with perspective — to see clearly what matters. And above all — go with the conviction that your lives can and must make a difference. Remember your friendships and special experiences enjoyed at Kinross Wolaroi School and remember, that you are forever part of this community. Congratulations Year 12. SHOWCASE SELECTIONS HSC Drama – OnSTAGE
Kinross Wolaroi School received 13 OnSTAGE Nominations for the 2025 HSC Drama cohort. OnSTAGE is a Showcase of outstanding major works from the HSC Drama course and this class has been recognised for their outstanding work in their Practical Examinations.
HSC Music 2 and Music Extension – ENCORE
Congratulations to Year 12 Music 2 and Music Extension students Anabelle van Wyk and Isabel Wong, whose dedication, many hours of practice and beautiful musicality led to nominations for Encore, NESA’s showcase of exemplary HSC performances.
All Drama students - Charlotte Buckley, Lex Carter, Olivia Dillon, Nicolas Hannaford, George Hogg, Felicity Knox, Isabella Lloyd George, and Caroline Smith - were nominated for their Group Performance. In addition, Lex, Oli, George, Isabella, and Carrie were also nominated for their Individual Performances. This is a significant achievement and recognition of their talent, dedication and creativity.

These prestigious showcases highlight outstanding student creativity across NSW, and Georgie’s recognition is an exceptional honour. Her striking deep-blue, one-shoulder dress features intricate hand-beaded circular cut-outs, each illustrating the theme of “white lies” through bold colours and captivating patterns.

Visual Arts - ARTEXPRESS
Jessica Thompson has had her work nominated for ARTEXPRESS 2026 — a prestigious showcase celebrating the most outstanding Visual Arts submissions across NSW.
Jessica’s nominated body of work, a series of graphite drawings titled In The Frame of Mind, explores the nature of memory through the metaphor of a family photo wall. Inspired by the wall of photographs in her grandparents’ home, Jessica thoughtfully examines how we curate, frame, and cherish the moments that shape us. This recognition reflects not only Jessica’s extraordinary talent and dedication, but also the strength of the Kinross Wolaroi Visual Arts program.

TERTIARY STUDY EARLY OFFERS We are proud to announce that 100% of eligible students in the 2025 Year 12 HSC cohort received at least one early admission offer, with the majority being unconditional offers. Many students secured multiple offers, with some receiving offers from more than four universities.
We are also delighted to note that a record number of students received admission offers to residential colleges at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, further highlighting the exceptional calibre and ambition of the Class of 2025.
This year marks several significant milestones, including a record number of students gaining admission to the Australian National University, with several also seeking placement at John XXIII College. Additionally, there was a record number of applications to universities in Queensland and Victoria, reflecting the diverse aspirations of our graduates.

VALETE DUX OF 2025, ISABEL WONG Good afternoon Dr Parry, staff, students, graduates, and guests. Five years ago, little Year 7 Isabel walked into this school, very lost and very short like the rest of our year group. Thankfully, in the past 2,068 days, according to Google, we’ve all grown a bit in confidence, knowledge, and height, although some more than others. In that time, I’ve learnt just a couple of things, for example, mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. But the main lesson learnt is what it takes to succeed. Of course, I only have 17 years’ life experience to back me up, but I think there are a few factors that can amount to success in any discipline. Firstly, good foundations. Thank you to all my teachers from kindergarten to now, who have set me up with the necessary skills to get here – I am forever grateful for your dedication to teaching. Secondly, mindset. To quote Legally Blonde, “Most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.” It isn’t always easy, but trusting yourself makes all the difference. Have an open mind and be willing to take feedback, even if it’s that annoyingly familiar recommendation to completely erase everything and start from scratch. Step outside your comfort zone, because if you do just that much, you’ll already be doing more than most of those around you. Then, motivation. Motivation can be wanting to beat somebody, prove someone wrong, or make someone proud, like your little Year 7 self. Motivation can be self-generated, or it can be star charts, stickers, or lollies from teachers – thank you, by the way. Motivation gives you the persistence to move towards your goal no matter what happens. And if you have the foundations, mindset, and motivation, all that’s left is dedicating time and effort towards your goal. I encourage everyone to have a passion to put hard work into. It can be academics, sure, but also sport, a job, the arts, or other interests. This effort doesn’t need to be 24 hours every day. Admittedly, I’ve probably spent way too long-playing Tetris, on Instagram reels, and online shopping, but hard work really does pay off. So, thank you to everyone who has helped me with the resources and motivation along this journey from little Year 7 Issy to slightly bigger Issy who gets to wear a fancy Harry Potter robe on stage. I am deeply honoured to receive this award, but I must acknowledge all the teachers, friends, and family who have helped me – it is their achievement as much as it is mine. Miss Triggs, I don’t know how you keep persisting with our class with the, “Hey Miss, can I projectile motion this person off the balcony?” but thank you for making things like Hertzsprung–Russell diagrams fun these last two years. For those lucky enough to have Mrs Smith, she is an English genius and will push you to step outside your comfort zone and do great things. Thank you, Miss, for believing in me no matter how many times I say, “I wish English didn’t have to count in my ATAR.” Thanks, Miss Laffey, for nonstop effort and for making classes productive yet entertaining through goblin music, Adventure Time stickers, and chemical chaos. Also, shout-out to Mr Willis for basically being my second Chemistry teacher. Mr Bowman, somehow you turned Accelerated and Extension 2 Mathematics into something interesting with your jokes, experience, and threat for us to bring a large flat white, no sugar. Thank you; your passion for teaching is truly special.
Mrs Shields, thanks for being a wonderful teacher, for “cup of tea” kind of lessons, and for tolerating our class mashups of jazzy school processionals and Coconut Mall. In addition, endless gratitude to Mrs Moxey, my amazing violin teacher and constant cheerleader. The last four years have been a true privilege. And thank you to Luke Moxey for all the work you do. Without the three of you (plus the extraordinary Vicky) my Music HSC would not have been possible. I’d like to extend that to the rest of the Music Department who always have buckets of support, smiles, keys, and brownies any day of the week. You have made my time here even more enjoyable, and I think my friends and family can attest that the Music Centre is practically my second home. And thank you to the music students who fill our ensembles and make music as fun as it is. Keep practising. :) Thank you to the co-curricular staff and students for some of the funniest and most memorable experiences. To the teachers and coaches, especially Mr Smedley, Mr Doyle, and the late Mrs Holland, your dedication and work behind the scenes really does mean a lot. Thank you to the soccer teams for making things fun and for those sometimes-necessary breaks from school. While walking up Billy Goat Mountain or a collapsing hootchie isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I think everyone leaves Cadets with some of the best memories, a bit more resilience, and friends in unlikely places. Additionally, I have never been so glad to have done Debating as I am, talking on this stage now. I encourage everyone, particularly younger students, to take advantage of any opportunities that come your way, in and out of school. There are chances to make new friends, learn, and grow waiting behind every corner, and you never know what you might miss. Thank you to my year group, especially my friends and classmates, for making school funnier, more interesting, and appealing on those days where six periods feel like twenty. I’m so lucky to be surrounded by such a supportive, kind, and hilarious group of people. Congratulations on making it so far, and I’m excited to see what you all achieve. To my family: thanks, Steph, for being the best study resource, and I guess to Phoebe for being my viva voce victim and keeping my Year 9 Mathematics up to date. Thanks, Mum and Dad, for your constant support and the sacrifices you have made for me and my sisters. Especially, thanks for convincing Dr Parry to let me into this school as the 152nd little Year 7. I literally wouldn’t be standing here otherwise. Thank you for the late nights and early mornings. Thanks for coming to freezing cold soccer games and music events, for driving me places, and for listening to my afternoon rants (sorry!). I could go on for days, but I’ll pause it there. Mum, Dad, none of this would be possible without you. In reflection, I am eternally grateful for the opportunities Kinross has given me, and there’ll be lots we’ll all miss. But I think we can also acknowledge that those classrooms which once felt giant to our little selves now feel much, much smaller, and we’re ready to move on to our next exciting adventures! She has contributed meaningfully to Soccer (KWS Firsts), Cadets, CrossFit, Debating, and a wide range of music ensembles, including Chamber Strings, Concert Band, and the Pit Orchestra. Her musical achievements include earning an Associate in Music, Australia (AMEB) for Violin, and she has been recognised with full colours in both Football and Debating. Her leadership roles—Cadet Under Officer, Music Vice-Captain, Strings Leader, and Round Square Democracy Leader—demonstrate her ability to lead with empathy, integrity, and purpose. Through the Ten4Ten Future Leaders Dialogue, Isabel has engaged with regional mentors, further developing her civic awareness and leadership capacity.
Isabel has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards, including the Carolyn Roweth Prize for the Dux of Kinross Wolaroi School, the Ex-Students’ Association Prize for Outstanding Effort, the Mrs Nan Dean Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music, and the Robin Thompson Prize for Stringed Instruments. Her academic excellence is further highlighted by the Sean Ngu and Foong Takaunlao Prize for Chemistry, the W D J Dean Prize for Physics, and the W G Stewart Prize for Mathematics. In addition, she received the Winifred Chapman Cup for Music and was acknowledged for Outstanding Effort in All HSC Subjects as well as Outstanding Effort in All Subjects. Beyond academics, Isabel earned Football Co-Curricular Colours, Music Honours, and achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, reflecting her commitment to both personal growth and community engagement. Isabel’s academic program included a rigorous selection of subjects: Chemistry, English Advanced, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, Music 2, Music Extension, and Physics. These subjects reflect her strong aptitude for both the sciences and the arts, showcasing her versatility and intellectual depth.
