Training Introduction
What is Highlight?
• Highlight colors quat wipes blue so you can see disinfection coverage, then the color fades away to clear when effective technique is used
Why Highlight?
• It improves cleaning and disinfection to protect patients from getting infections

Lid Cartridge
• Reusable, do NOT throw away Single-use + ready-to-use
Attaches directly to standard 5” canisters:

Standard Canisters: Attaching the Lid
1. Remove lid of wipe canister.
2. Attach Lid, pressing down with even pressure from both hands to snap it in place. Step 1 Step 2
Large Buckets: Attaching the Lid + 9” Adapter
1. Remove lid of wipe bucket.
2. Attach 9” Adapter and press down to snap into place.
3. Attach Lid onto 9” Adapter by pressing down until snug (you will not feel a “snap”).

Narrower Canisters: 4” Adapter
1. Remove lid of narrow canister.
2. Attach Lid, pressing down with even pressure from both hands to snap it in place.
3. Place canister into 4” Adapter for stabilization, if needed

Threading the First Wipe
1. Press the two side buttons to unlock the Lid.
2. Gently lift the Lid upward.
3. Pull the first wipe out and lay it horizontally across white roller.
4. Close the Lid and make sure it “clicks” on both sides, being careful to avoid pinching the Lid on top of the wipe. Step 1
Inserting the Cartridge
1. Press the Cartridge into the Lid until fully inserted.
2. Each Cartridge has enough color to last 1 bucket or 2 canisters.
Tip: Once the Cartridge is inserted, do not remove until empty or else it may drip.

1. Wear gloves when handling disinfectants.
Tip: Highlight has been tested by 3rd parties and is safe to use. If you get Highlight on yourself, rinse with soap and water.
Dispensing Wipes
1. Press the “Dispense” button and gently pull the wipe at the same time to guide the wipe out. Wipes will come out as long as button is held down.
2. Tear the wipe at a perforation.

Using the Wipe
1. Fold wipe in half so wipe fits in hand (important for applying even pressure).
2. Spread color as evenly as possible on surfaces.
3. If good wiping technique used, color will fade completely to clear after 2-3 minutes.

Wipe Technique
Good technique requires even coverage and friction. Highlight can help train good habits. The color enables staff to ensure full coverage, and evenly spreading the color (same shade, no darker streaks) enforces friction.

Color Residue Troubleshooting: Partial fading
Cause: If small streaks of color remain and the surface has completely dried:
• Poor wiping technique
• Highlight adhering to dirt/sticker residue
Solution:
• To wipe with good technique, fold wipe in half and spread color evenly
• Use elbow grease to remove dirt/sticker residue
Color Residue Troubleshooting: No fading
Cause: If none of the color fades and the surface has completely dried:
• Not using quat wipes (bleach, peroxide, etc.)
• Quat wipes have dried out
• Quat wipes have expired
Solution:
• Grab a fresh canister of quat wipes
Check expiration date
Color Residue Troubleshooting: Crevices/Same
Spots
Cause: If color remains in crevices or the same parts of the surface repeatedly:
• Dirt/grime is stuck in crevices
• Surface is old/porous and absorbing color
Solution:
• Use elbow grease to remove dirt/grime and crevices will no longer stay blue
• If surface is porous, it may be harboring pathogens. Use blank quat wipes to remove color (see next slide)
Helping Staff Learn How to Use Highlight
1. It is common for staff to experience partial fading (small streaks) as they’re first learning to use the product. Don’t let them be discouraged!
2. Instruct them to disinfect room normally and allow time for color to fade away.
3. At the very end of room cleaning, push side buttons to open Lid and grab a blank/uncolored quat wipe.
4. Do a 30-second walk-through of the room, using the blank quat wipe to dab any small streaks away.
Tip: Using a blank quat wipe is the easiest way to remove any color.
Retraction of Wipes
1. After 5 minutes of inactivity, hanging wipes will get retracted back into the Lid to prevent drying out of the wipe.
Note: Simply press the “Dispense” button to get a new wipe (you do not need to open the Lid the thread the wipe again)

Product Workflow
1. To remove Lid, hold canister down in one hand and use other hand to lift and detach Lid from canister. Re-use Lid and attach to new canister of wipes.
2. Cartridge is empty when wipes come out of Lid with no color. To remove Cartridge, pull Cartridge out and dispose. Get a new Cartridge and insert into Lid.
