KINGSWOOD VILLAGE WI

Kingswood Village WI have been a fixture at the village hall for 50 years now, and celebrated this with a special tea-party last December, entertained by a local steel band. during our 50 years at the hall, and have meant a lot to the local community, supporting all the KADDS plays, and reaching out to the community in so many ways.
Lady Janet Hill, was instrumental in saving the hall for the village community, with her husband Sir Brian and others. She was our President for many years, and was very active in her support for the WI as well as KADDS.
I hope our organisation will be able to meet together soon, and that the hall will welcome us once again. Thank you to the KVCA for all the work you do to support our hall and our community.

Kingswood Surrey Music Choir
Kingswood Surrey Music Services (KSM) is a music school with professional music teachers. It’s our pleasure to provide affordable music lessons at any level. KSM have taught over 900 children in Surrey so far, conducted performing arts shows, music workshops, choirs for children and adults
We have had many wonderful speakers
too, online and in-person.

In October we started our Adult Choir and it’s been a fulfilling experience to bring local voices together. Our members had missed this musical activity during the earlier Covid restrictions.
My name is Emma Clark, Musical Director and founder of Kingswood Surrey Music Services. I’ve been fortunate to live my dream of owning a music school by the age of 23. I feel I’ve made a difference to many people, sharing my experience in music over 19 years of performing. I encourage my students to do the same, to develop their confidence, study, or as a fun hobby. The game changer for me was singing at the O2 when I was a child in London with Alfie Boe, and singing sideby-side with my West End idol Lea Salonga. Dreams do come true when you don’t give up!
My all-round music passion derived from hard work, studying at music school, performing arts college and Goldsmiths University. I graduated with a Classical Music & Music Teaching BMus Degree.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Bob Gunn who helped us to expand KSM music clubs at the Village Hall. Kingswood is special to me, it is where I live with my family and dogs! KSM are planning to bring concerts to Kingswood as soon as they are allowed, so see you there!
Emma Clark Tai Chi and related arts
The martial arts of the Orient are numerous and offer a full spectrum of movement skills. Tai Chi is one of the most well-known and is a wonderful dynamic movement system that promotes wellbeing and health. The benefits are manifold since all parts of the body are exercised without undue load and intensity. Posture, joint strength, balance and coordination can be improved by applying movement principles and regular training. arts and common features are used to enhance the art via a healthy exchange of movement principles and techniques which make each class session rounded and holistic. Tai Chi doesn’t have to be performed in large, open spaces and can be adapted to small environments and practised individually or in groups. Through focused exercises and awareness of body position the student gradually responds and is able to perform the slow, controlled movements associated with Tai Chi. A comprehensive, thoughtful approach is tuned to suit abilities and individuals with numerous health benefits including self-defence applications. since 2017 and our Tuesday evening sessions for adult members are run by an experienced instructor when government guidelines allow. We expect to have been able during November, to run Zoom sessions from the Hall during
Lockdown 2 and I really hope we will be able to resume live sessions there very soon.

We are a very friendly group who love theatre, putting on plays and other entertainment in the Village Hall. KADDS has been in existence since the early 1980s having been set up partly to raise funds to save the Hall for the Kingswood community. So we really feel that it is, in a very special way, our Hall.
During rehearsals and production we have a great deal of fun, culminating in the satisfaction and thrill of the Play itself – always followed by a party! Our plays have ranged from pantomimes to farce, thrillers and more serious drama.
Each year we aim to put on three plays – mid-February (usually involving children), endMay and end-October - plus Crackers, our preChristmas review-style show. Each production is a separate entity and you can be involved in one, or as many as you wish. For each we hold auditions approximately three months prior to the performance, led by the Director, when the actors are chosen and we decide on the Back Stage roles. Apart from the Director, each production requires a Producer, Set Building and Stage Setting, Stage Manager, Prompt, Lighting, Costumes, Props. Plus a Front of House team

to look after our wonderful audiences. You do not need to have had previous experience!
The whole process is a great deal of fun and there are always the cast trips to the New Khyber and the end of show parties. All ages get involved – the youngest contributor recently was 4 year old and we have actors in their 80s. We are happy to welcome everyone. Obviously things have changed in 2020 but we hope to be back in our Hall very soon putting on more fun shows.
Judy Parnall, KADDS Chair Eleanor Coley Ballet
RAD Ballet Teacher, Miss Eleanor Coley, has been teaching Adult Ballet classes at Kingswood Village Hall on Wednesday mornings since the beginning of 2020, until sadly Covid-19 put a hold on classes back in March. The KVCA have worked extremely hard to enable us to return to live classes and have ensured the Hall is COVID-secure and safe to use. I hope we can re-start live classes again very soon.
Eleanor’s Adult Ballet classes are designed to improve general fitness, posture and coordination with the joy of classical ballet music. From experienced dancers to those who have always wanted to try a plié or pirouette, these classes will provide a challenge and sense of movement with lots of fun and laughter along the way!
Please do not hesitate to get in touch and we look forward to meeting you at the barre! Please contact me on eleanorcoley@hotmail.com information.

Hi my name is Paul Andrews and during September and October I have been holding my Friday morning Pilates classes at the Kingswood Village Hall. I am so grateful to Bob, Penny, Anthony, Sheila and all who have been involved to provide my clients and myself a Covid-safe

environment for our Pilates classes.

Not only has it been vital for our physical health but the mental health benefits of returning to exercise in actual live classes was of paramount importance to me as soon as the government gave us the go ahead. What a pity that we have had to stop live sessions again from early November.
At the time Village Voice is distributed in December this may or not still be the case, but I have absolute confidence in the KVCA that, when allowed, Covid-safe classes will be up and running again in Kingswood Village Hall.
Thank you once again to the KVCA team. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and fit and healthy 2021.
