SPRING AND SUMMER AHEAD!

With longer days and spring and summer ahead, the tennis club is seeing more and more activity whether that be organised club sessions, members organising their own groups or our coach helping us play that bit better. Over the school holidays, it was wonderful to see the juniors coming to the holiday camp and having such fun, many riding their bikes down to the session. What fun and freedom our village and the tennis club give these children!
Part of belonging to the tennis club is the ability to get out of the house to meet and make new friends and of course, play tennis. As the weather improves you will find many of us down at the club on a Friday or Saturday evening enjoying our club’s facilities. Getting together after organised events and impromptu social gatherings form a strong element of club life. Our committee has worked hard to update the clubhouse decor, buying comfortable garden furniture and installing a fantastic bar. Now, at last, with Covid restrictions largely behind us and good weather on the way, we can enjoy all these amazing facilities to the full. So it’s time to dust off your tennis racket and come on down to the tennis club! There is tennis for all levels of play and we would love to see you.
Speaking of social events, there are two coming up which are worthy of note. Our Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations will be held on 4th June with loads of tennis and fun events on offer and there will be food and drink in the garden. This event is open to guests so if you are not a member but would like to find out more about the club, please do come and join in, you will be most welcome.
The second event is our annual Club Championships which is always an exciting day out. Come and watch our best players battle for top honours, making great tennis look so easy! This is going to be held on Saturday 2nd July and we will be holding thumbs for a sunny day.
On the more competitive side, we have entered 21 teams into various competitions this summer namely the Surrey, Dorking and Leatherhead and Chaucer leagues, showing just how far competitive tennis has come at the club. Some of our matches will be played in the evenings so this will be an ideal opportunity to come to the courts to watch the play and give our teams your support. We of course would welcome any players who would like to play in these teams. For more information, please go to our website at https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/KingswoodLTC or visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ kingswoodlawntennisclub.
Besides day-to-day maintenance and running of the club, the committee continues to look at improving our club for the benefit of our members. To this end, we have continued the practice of investing our surplus member’s subscriptions into several projects, large and small. As Chair, I’d like to thank my committee for the strong support and the numerous hours they dedicate to making KLTC a great club to belong to.
