Choosing your pathway

Embarking on your Lower Sixth journey in 2025, you’ll discover three distinct pathways tailored to help you succeed. Each pathway is academically rigorous and offers flexibility to align with your individual needs. Whether you seek specialisation or a broader academic experience, the choice is yours.

Pathway 1:

3 A Level Subjects + Academic Enrichment

This pathway acknowledges that universities typically make offers based on three subjects. It empowers students to specialise in an area of interest through the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or develop skills in Leadership and Management, Critical Skills, or a Thermodynamics course. Pathway 1 students will benefit from timetabled subject extension/consolidation periods.

Pathway 2:

3 A Level Subjects + AS Mathematics + Academic Enrichment

Designed for students aiming to delve deeply into three A Level subjects while obtaining an AS Maths qualification. Some degree courses require Mathematics beyond GCSE but not a full A Level. The AS Maths course is studied through a reduced number of lessons throughout Lower and Upper Sixth with the exam taking place at the end of the Upper Sixth.

Pathway 3:

2 A Level Subjects + Further Mathematics (Academic Enrichment optional)

Ideal for those seeking a broader academic experience in Sixth Form. Students following this course also have the option to complete an Academic Enrichment option. Pathway 3 students will benefit from timetabled subject extension/consolidation periods.

All pathways include timetabled PSHE lessons which focus on the same three key areas as the rest of the school: Living in the Wider World, Relationships, and Health and Wellbeing. Topics include volunteering, political influences, safety, student finance, networking, sexual health and mental health. Upper Sixth students also attend fortnightly lectures.
