Our Christmas parties... We had two Christmas parties this year, one for the older ones at Barnfield Youth Centre and one for the younger ones at the Corner House Theatre. We had an amazing time with all of you at both and hope you guys enjoyed it too! We had games, music, food, magic and lots of fun!

What we’ve been up to... This winter season we have:
Been on a trip up to London to the V & A. Visited Kingston Museum for an afternoon of activities. Been on a trip to the fire station. Taken a trip to The Pod. Had a Halloween party. Hosted TWO Christmas parties. Run another successful Cook & Eat 6 week course. Been ice skating at Hampton Court.
Visit to the V&A As part of our Shared Heritage project we got to go along for a fantastic tour of the Victoria and Albert museum, looking at design. We learnt lots and did some fun activities. It was also the best lunch ever!
We had an awesome day at the fire station in New Malden; the firemen showed us how everything worked, we got to go in a smoke chamber and an added bonus… there were animals to cuddle!
Visit to Kingston Museum It was too wet for the local history walk we had planned, so Kingston Museum kindly arranged an indoor history activity instead. We learned so much.
The Pod Our trip to the Pod was brilliant fun, we were exhausted afterwards!
Halloween Party Our Halloween party was definitely one to remember! With the decorations and all the games it was the best, the scariest, the spookiest ever! Page 2

Eat well, feel better Did you know good food is good for your mood? It's not just your body you're feeding - your mind is affected by what you eat, too. A healthy diet can protect our mental health.
How does food affect my mood? Blood sugar Glucose from the carbohydrate-containing foods we eat provides the brain’s main source of fuel. Without this fuel, we can’t think clearly. Some carbs are better than others. Sugar, white pasta and biscuits will only give you a short burst of energy. You'll feel tired and grumpy when the sugar high wears off. "Complex carbohydrates", such as wholegrains, beans and vegetables, are a better choice because they give you sustained energy. If you eat lots of sugary foods, fizzy drinks and stimulants such as coffee, tea or alcohol, your blood sugar levels go up and down. This can make you irritable, anxious, and dizzy, It can also lead to poor concentration and aggressive behaviour.
Brain food: Top tips
Don't skip meals. Eat three meals a day with two ‘healthy’ snacks (for example fruit or yoghurt) in between. Eat breakfast within an hour of waking up. Never skip breakfast. Try to have at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. Try to drink 6-8 glasses of water every day.

Random Facts to Make Your Jaw Drop In 1895, the only two cars in Ohio (USA) crashed into each other. The odds of hitting two holes-inone in the same round of golf are 67 million to one. Americans eat 10 billion donuts every year. Every Heinz baked bean passes through a laser beam to make sure it’s the right colour. The average British child makes their first mobile-phone call at the age of 8. There is only one pig in the whole of Afghanistan. The world’s most expensive car is a 1957 Ferrari Testarossa and was sold in 2011 for £10,750,000.

What we’ve been up to... Fun swim session We had these giant inflatables, and the ENTIRE pool, to ourselves on our fun swim session. The course was exhausting but great fun.
Cook and Eat programme 6 families joined Liz, Diane, Garry and Shelia for a six week Cook and Eat course. We learnt lots of new recipes and were able to get some healthy tips along the way.
Barnfield Christmas Party We had a Christmas Party at Barnfield Youth Centre this year; it was a fantastic evening; great games, great food, great magician, great friends.
Ice Skating at Hampton Court We were able to have four fantastic ice skating sessions at Hampton Court to celebrate the beginning of the new year. It was great fun but FREEZING! Brrrrrrr.
Under 12s Christmas Party What great fun we had at the Christmas Party this year. We had a special pantomime performed just for us, lots of games and a special guest in a snow filled grotto! Page 5
