SPRING 2021

WELCOME Spring is upon us and Kingston Libraries is bursting with fun activities for people of all ages to enjoy. This October we will be celebrating the Seniors Festival, and Kingston Libraries is again participating with a wide variety of activities including finance for seniors, games, gardening, author talks, how to downsize and declutter and one not to miss - a literary afternoon with me (see page 4). As always, we are planning a series of talks with great authors, including the very talented Gideon Haigh who’ll be visiting Dingley Village Library in partnership with the Melbourne Writers Festival. For our younger members, the ever-popular Story Lines Writing Competition is on again, plus we are putting on additional spring Storytimes on Saturdays and early evenings. Westall Library also has something to keep young people busy after school with the new Homework Club for primary school students. There have been plenty of changes in our libraries while we’ve been in and out of lockdowns. If you haven’t already, I would recommend you take the time to visit our refreshed Highett Library or bring the little ones along to Parkdale where you’ll see some exciting changes in the children’s area. Finally, don’t miss out on the chance to meet some of our local feathered friends and get ready for the annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count. Hope to see you there. Cr Steve Staikos, Mayor All What’s On events are free. Programming is subject to government health regulations. Programs listed as in-branch may revert to online or be placed on hold if regulations require.

KINGSTON LIVING LIBRARY PROJECT

YOUR STORY STARTS HERE. Kingston Libraries is looking for seniors in our community with funny, interesting, and inspiring stories to tell. If you know someone who would be willing to tell their story for up to 15 minutes, and be video-recorded for posterity, let us know. Once recorded, our living library books will be featured on Kingston LibraryTube.

This pilot project is designed to promote understanding, break down prejudice and embrace senior members of our community by valuing their history and culture. It is inspired by the Human Library© concept started in Copenhagen twenty years ago. The project will culminate in a launch event later in the year and some live storytelling by the participants with a Q&A session.

Please contact us on 1300 135 668 or email library@kingston.vic.gov.au and a form will be sent to you to fill out.
