WELCOME Stay at Home restrictions have meant we’ve had to close our libraries temporarily but it hasn’t stopped us from putting together a fantastic program of online events, author talks and workshops for all ages to enjoy this spring at Kingston Libraries. As always you’ll have the chance to hear from some incredible authors, albeit virtually. For budding writers, join our Creative Writing group Kingston Write Now! And just because we can’t meet face-to-face doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some online book banter – sign up to our online Virtual Book Club. If movies are more your thing, get involved with Kingston Libraries’ Digital Film Feasts, or get creative with Kingston Creators. There’s also a special program of events in October for our seniors including cooking, music and some tech tips. And there’s plenty of virtual clubs, online craft activities, plus reading and writing challenges to keep the kids entertained while they’re at home this spring. Julie Reid, City of Kingston CEO
Author Events Online Edition How to Develop Your Writing Career
Thursday September 10 | 6.30pm-7.30pm USA RITA® and Australian RuBY award winner, Fiona Lowe, has used her experiences working as a midwife and family support worker, among other things, to write novels about family and relationships. Her latest book is Just an Ordinary Family. In this talk Fiona will describe her path to becoming a writer and offer tips for those interested in turning their passion for writing into a career. Remembrance Day: Our Returned Diggers Friday 13 November | 2pm-3pm
Historian and lecturer Lucas Jordan, author of Stealth Raiders: A Few Daring Men in 1918, presents a talk about how diggers who returned from the WWI battlefields fared at home. FILM FEASTS
Kingston Libraries’ Digital Film Feasts is a film club to provide movie lovers with a space to discuss a diverse range of movies. Every month we’ll propose four movies to watch from our free movie streaming service, Kanopy. Each week we then feature and discuss one of the four films, sharing thoughts, questions, stories and reviews, as well as other interesting pieces about the movie. There are even apps for recording sleep, tracking medicine, providing alerts and making claims. In this session we demonstrate a few popular apps that seniors love to use to transform their mobile device into a health coach and journal they can take with them anywhere. Better yet, this Virtual edition allows you to do it all from the comfort of home. We’ll be releasing a new activity to our Virtual STEAM Punk Club to explore each fortnight at 4pm on Thursdays.
