With winter behind us, there’s no better time to get involved in the artistic and cultural programs available here in Kingston. Get the kids into the classics early with the hilarious Shakespeare adaptation Macdeth, or immerse yourself in Australian maritime history with Hell Ship – Journey of the Ticonderoga. Follow three generations of Moorabbin family life in Jurassica, or settle in for a classic Agatha Christie whodunit presented by Lux Radio Theatre. For the visual arts aficionados, Art Day South are here to take you on a constantly evolving and immersive multimedia experience in Go Have a Look. Experience the work of a new generation of creatives with Abstraction + Non-objective Painting: Class of 2018, by Monash Art, Design and Architecture students. Music fans will be pleased to hear that Live at City Hall will be reinvigorating Kingston City Hall as the home of regular gigs, with a fantastic ongoing line up of local and touring artists. And don’t forget to bring your own creative skills to the table – photographic award OptiKA and community favourite The Makers Festival both provide many opportunities to participate at any level of experience. Go Have A Look
BY ART DAY SOUTH Go Have A Look is a collaborative artwork by inclusive and experimental arts studio Art Day South. Using sound and video recording, green screen, cardboard sets, paint, music, fashion, and performance, the artists have constructed a world that changes and evolves before your eyes.

BY MADA STUDENTS, 2018 Kingston Arts is proud to present Abstraction + Non-objective Painting: Class of 2018, featuring the works of Monash Art Design and Architecture students, led by artist and lecturer John Nixon. The group exhibition explores themes and methods developed over 100 years of abstraction in art history. Abstraction + Non-objective Painting: Class of 2018 acknowledges the ongoing relationship between abstraction and contemporary art, while supporting the development of emerging artists.

Juxtapose
BY LIZ FITZGERALD AND LUKE TYRRELL Juxtapose is a collaborative exhibition featuring the artworks of Luke Tyrrell and Liz Fitzgerald. Whilst their styles are very different, both artists are heavily influenced by the coastal environments of Port Philip Bay and the Mornington Peninsula. The coast has been a constant background in their lives, creating their different perspectives and responses, as the light and colour informs their work.

The Joy of Uniqueness
BY THE CARING ARTISTS The Joy of Uniqueness is a group exhibition featuring the works of local artists, all of whom are carers for loved ones with a disability. The paintings aim to showcase the joy in the artist’s lives, as well as the hardships they have endured.

Formed in 2012, The Caring Artists group meet weekly in a local Kingston studio to paint in a supportive environment, where they develop their artistic skills and share their day-to-day experiences. Growing organically from humble beginnings, a strong, supportive network has evolved. The Joy of Uniqueness is a celebration of solidarity between the artists and their diverse experiences as carers.

STORY, POETRY AND PRINT EXHIBITION INTERGENERATIONAL PROJECT 2018 The Power’s in the Word brought together seniors and young people in a series of workshops to write and illustrate stories and poems. Participants worked with acclaimed writer Emilie Zoey Baker and artist and print maker Adrian Spurr. An exhibition about the project will be launched at Westall Community Hub as part of Seniors Festival.

WORKSHOP AND LIVE PERFORMANCE OF ESCAPE FROM TRASH MOUNTAIN – AN EPIC TALE OF TRASHY PROPORTIONS
BUSH CREATURES
Created by Ben Anderson, Jhess Knight, Amy Moule and Jacob Williams, Escape from Trash Mountain sees 17 handmade puppets fight trash bats, navigate treacherous ravines and outwit trash monsters to save the planet. This will be immediately followed by a workshop where participants can make their own puppet from recycled materials.
Escape From Trash Mountain commences at 2.30pm; workshops commence from 3.15pm and are open to all ages.
Adults and children alike are invited to work with Indigenous artists from Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula to create their own bush sculpture made from natural and contemporary fibers. Workshops will take place in the Kingston City Hall Foyer from 3pm.

Guru Dudu takes the Silent Disco phenomenon to a whole new level with his Silent Disco Walking Tours. Expect hilarious commentary, uplifting tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, crazy improv and interpretive dance.

Ralph and Sara migrated from Italy in the 1950s to their concrete-frontyard house in suburban Moorabbin. Their son, Ichlis, never really forgave them for his misunderstood name, and grandson Luca is struggling to talk to his father and grandfather. Then one night Ralph is rushed to hospital and, through an unlikely connection with Kaja, an interpreter, Luca learns to reconnect. This critically acclaimed new play, spoken in English and Italian, is a story of migration, intergenerational communication, and dinosaurs (but not the prehistoric kind).

“Ticonderoga limped through the heads into Port Phillip. Her horrific voyage at an end, she appeared as a ghost ship.” In 1852, the emigrant ship Ticonderoga limped into Port Phillip Bay after a nightmare voyage from England, during which nearly 200 of her passengers died of typhus. Her saga of tragedy, loss and heroism gripped the people of the young nation like nothing before. This, however, is just the beginning of the story. Michael Veitch takes us on a thrilling voyage through one of Victoria’s most horrific maritime events. Stay for a book signing with Michael Veitch after the matinée performance!

Bookings can be made in person at the Box Office on the ground floor of the Kingston City Hall or credit card bookings can be made over the phone or on our website. The Box Office opens 60 minutes prior to show times unless otherwise specified.
