NOTE FROM THE EDITOR Many of you are probably familiar with the country song “Fast” by Luke Bryan. I heard it almost a hundred times in 2017 while driving my daughter and her friend to Pensacola Beach for spring break. My daughter had recently discovered country music and she hijacked control of the radio. I couldn’t get us to the beach fast enough as it brought back childhood memories of my parents inflicting country music on my sisters and me every time they drove us around in our family station wagon. As much as I fought it — Ronnie Milsap, Kenny Rogers, George Strait, Alabama, and all the rest left their imprint on the soundtrack of my youth. We were probably three hours into our five-hour journey when I finally waved the white flag and actually started to listen and reflect on the lyrics of “Fast”. The theme of slowing down and experiencing the moment was especially close to my heart at that time because my daughter (and youngest child) was spiraling toward her senior year of high school, and time was definitely not on my side. So how does one BE STILL? Almost two years later I don’t have any real answers except when I hear that song, it brings me back to that trip with a smile on my face and a small boulder on my heart. It’s always those bittersweet moments that we thank God for the memory and awareness moving forward. Whatever song title may reflect this time of your life or your child’s, I hope it is one that brings you happiness and joy because it all truly does go by way too fast. LETTER FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first issue of BE STILL, our new biannual publication designed to give you greater insight into the amazing things happening at King’s Ridge Christian School and with our alumni. This edition highlights the first half of the school year as we seek to fulfill our vision, mission, and passion at the highest level. As you peruse the new magazine – the contents have been carefully designed to convey the multitude of ways KRCS equips our students To Know, To Serve, and To Believe. Speaking of our mission, King’s Ridge Christian School, in collaboration with its stakeholders eighteen years ago, established a mission statement intended to guide all planning and decision-making. There are three main components, and the founders of the school were very intentional when they ordered those parts. First, we are to be a Christian community that supports one another as well as one that cultivates positive relationships with our students and families. Second, we are a school that prepares our students to be successful at the university of their choice or wherever God has called them. The third and final component outlines the goals that we have for our students: to possess both academic and spiritual knowledge, to understand what it means to serve our Lord by serving others and their community, and to have a faith that is personal, defendable, and can sustain them through the ups and downs of life’s journey. We seek to embed this mission in every student’s daily experience at all levels of the school. Our hope is that you will take some time to be still and truly know He is God. Be still and read through the ways God has blessed this institution in and through the lives of our students. You will see stories of their accomplishments, experiences, and opportunities as well as the amazing faculty who have walked alongside them in the journey. Be still and see our amazing legacy of students who have graduated from KRCS and are now making an impact that extends far beyond the King’s Ridge campus. Know Where We Have Been On July 15, 2018, the seven selected Prefects for the 2018-2019 school year traveled to Aspen, Colorado, to spend five days and four nights in the wilderness. The trip challenged the Prefects to grow as leaders, to depend upon the others as a team, and to strengthen their faith in the Lord. The Prefects were led by Dr. Jeff D. Williams, Head of School, and accompanied by faculty members Mr. Jeff Pickren, Dean of Students, and Mrs. Tiffany Porter, Middle School teacher. Academic Prefect Colby Lamkin shares his experience about this life-changing opportunity.
THE TRIP My immediate thought was that there was no way I could travel to Aspen and climb the Maroon Bells. This requirement almost turned me away from the program altogether. Despite that legitimate concern, I felt something deep down inside telling me to do it. “To get ready, I hiked mountains daily over the summer, but no amount of training would prepare me for what I was about to face.” The first problem was I knew none of my fellow Prefects. So, I was not only doing the most challenging thing I have ever done — I was doing it with seven people I barely knew. As we began our 5-day backpacking trip, it became quite clear that I was in a far worse physical state than the others. I quickly fell behind and felt that I was nothing more than a burden on the trip. I would later learn this to be false. The night came upon us quickly, and we were suddenly faced with the reality that we would have to talk to each other as we had no technology or other forms of distraction to occupy our time. It
was awkward at first, but we quickly connected and had a great time talking for hours upon hours.
WHAT I LEARNED All hyperbole aside, no words could describe the feeling of accomplishment I experienced upon reaching the peak. The trip was quite honestly the most challenging thing I have ever done, but I would not trade it for anything. I learned so many valuable lessons and bonded with great people including Mr. Pickren. When I had hit my low point, he stopped me and told me something I will never forget: “You probably feel like dead weight right now, but I want to tell you that is so wrong. This trip has proven something to you, to me, and all of us. It has proven just how determined you are! It has proven just how far you will go! A true man’s character can be seen when it is the fourth quarter, and he has nothing left.” In addition to his words, I learned for the first time in my life what it honestly was like to struggle and gained a new empathy for people who aren’t as academic as I am. That epiphany drove me to

develop a peer tutoring program to help those who struggle just as I did on that mountain.
THE NEW UPPER SCHOOL TUTORING PROGRAM We have already seen a significant improvement in the grades and skills of our attendees. We have received countless comments like these on a regular basis — Tutoring is literally the highlight of my day, I’m so excited about tutoring this afternoon, and I started going to tutoring because my parents forced
me to, but now — I go because I want to. In addition to this feedback, it always feels good when a student who was initially failing a class comes in and boasts about his A on a test to anyone who will listen. None of this would have been possible without the help of our incredible tutors. They work tirelessly behind the scenes and make it a point not only to care about the students’ grades but also the students themselves. It has been amazing watching all the tutors and students work together. It is like magic happening before my eyes.

GRANDPARENTS AND GRANDFRIENDS DAY
Convocation is a wonderful tradition at King’s Ridge Christian School. It is an opportunity to bring together the entire school community to celebrate the beginning of the school year and to ask for God’s blessing on our students, faculty, parents, and Board of Trustees. On August 8, Dr. Williams charged the student body to place their trust, delight, commitment, and rest in the Lord during the school year.
This is one of the most beloved annual events at KRCS as we honor our grandparents and grandfriends before the Thanksgiving Break. Maria Artime shared, “This was a great day we shared with our granddaughters and met the wonderful teachers they have. Thanks to all the staff of the school that makes possible this activity! Great school!”
HOMECOMING Homecoming 2018 is in the books, but the memories will remain forever! Evan Dyer and Hayden Danyo were crowned King and Queen and Braxton Chadwick and Ellie Ackerman were elected Prince and Princess. Last year’s King and Queen, Thomas Smith and Jessica Ball, returned to campus to crown the winners.
CHRISTMAS AT THE RIDGE The KRCS community celebrated the season at this special event that featured pictures with Santa, dinner, a Fine Arts Christmas Spectacular, and the lighting of the Christmas tree while enjoying cookies and hot cocoa. For a fourth year, the event supported the Empty Bowls Project, an international grassroots effort to raise money and awareness in the fight to end hunger.

Know What We Have A child’s innate sense of curiosity and wonder is the foundation of the KRCS Science Program. Our engaging, cross-curricula approach emphasizes hands-on experiences and inquiry-based investigations patterned after methods scientists use. Students in Pre-K - 4 th grade explore life, Earth, and physical sciences through a Christian world view. Students learn the language of science, the skills to communicate science ideas, and reading strategies to successfully navigate informational text. Our goal is to produce scientifically literate citizens who think critically and work collaboratively. KRCS has a Lower School science lab with a full-time science teacher, Mrs. Pattye Bright (pictured in left photo below). Know What We Have Lower School began the school year with a carnival themed welcome celebration and the phrase: “Come one, come all to the Greatest School Year of All!” The “Houses” were introduced by name, Bible verse, and Christ-like character traits that the Lower School is emphasizing and modeling for the students. Returning students remained in their House from last school year, and new students pulled names to see which House they would be assigned. Throughout the school year, House games are played for ‘marble points’ and students have the opportunity to earn marbles for their House with good behavior, helping attitude, and exhibiting Christ-like character. A House winner is announced at the end of each month and their ‘House Flag’ is displayed in the Lower School front office and they are awarded an out-of-uniform day.

Know What We Have King’s Ridge Christian School Honor Code: As KRCS students, we do what is right, speak the truth, and strive for integrity in all that we do. Therefore, we will not be involved in lying, cheating, stealing, disruptive behavior, or illegal activity on or off campus. If we stray from the path of honor, we agree to accept the correction of others and the established consequences of our School. At the beginning of each school year, Middle and Upper School students take part in a formal Honor Code signing ceremony. The King’s Ridge Christian School Honor Code is explained in detail by the Student Elected Honor Council. At the end of the event, every student and faculty member signs a document pledging to uphold it.
A week prior to this assembly, students participate in a less formal assembly in which the student officers of the Honor Council discuss the Honor Code with students and its importance to our overall school culture. “As Dean of Students in both the Middle and Upper School, I serve as faculty advisor to the Honor Council. In my view, the Honor Code Signing Ceremony is one of the most important days of our school year. This establishes that basis for our relationships with one another as a school community,” shared Mr. Jeff Pickren.

Know What We Have KRCS introduced a new textbook program for the Middle and Upper Schools. In the past, textbooks were purchased by individual families independently or via a third-party vendor. In an attempt to reduce the stress and cost of this process for families, and to ensure that correct books are purchased and delivered in a timely fashion, the program was rolled out. With the
assistance of a parent volunteer and an array of student volunteers, Mr. Grant Butler, Dean of Academics, managed the buyback of previously owned textbooks along with the purchase and distribution of textbooks and classroom materials to each student’s locker prior to the first day of school. The welcome message below was placed on every locker.

Know What We Have WHAT IS JR. TIGERS? Jr. Tigers is a recreational and sports development program providing students in K - 4th grade with the ability to represent and play for King’s Ridge Christian School in individual leagues that have been vetted and approved through the Jr. Tiger Program and Head Program Coordinators. Jr. Tigers is also a community program that will grow in its outreach with the local churches and surrounding public schools so that students can play with their neighbors and shine the light of
Christ through the sharing of our facilities, as well as providing an impact that extends far beyond the King’s Ridge Christian School campus. JR. Know What We Have KRCS ATHLETIC HIGHLIGHTS Varsity Football - Congratulations to the following King’s Ridge Christian School football players who were honored this year: KRCS Player of the Year – Kaleb Harris; KRCS Academic Player of the Year – Evan Dyer; KRCS Underclassman of the Year – Julian Joseph; KRCS Lineman of the Year – Jack Harrell; KRCS Special Teams Player of the Year – Joseph Patti. Middle School Tennis - Both our boys and girls teams earned a spot in the Metro 10 tournament. The girls went undefeated through the regular season and they finished second in the tournament. The boys capped their season in 6th place.
Basketball - Under the direction of Bob Martin and Arete Basketball, the program grew from 70 to 140 participants. KRCS Upper School Varsity players help coach on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. Cross Country - Middle School had an impressive season ending with a spectacular performance at Metro 10 winning second place at the championship. The Varsity girls team placed second in the JV division of the 6A Area Meet to close out the season.

Know What We Have Varsity Softball - Senior Kierstyn Drollette pitched a no-hitter against Galloway on August 22 for the first win of the season. Equestrian - Madelyn Doster is King’s Ridge first ever United States Equestrian Federation’s Athlete Lettering Program recipient. Volleyball - Kate Salvatierra made the All-Area 1 6A Volleyball Team.

Directing NEWSIES has been such an incredible experience. From the moment the show was chosen to our opportunity to continue it at ThesCon, God’s hand has been evident in the process. We weren’t even certain how we would cast all the roles, and many were not cast until well into August, even though auditions were in May. In the beginning, the possibility of mounting this production looked grim, but we never turned back. While NEWSIES has always been a show we wanted to do, that was not our primary motivation. There was something else driving it – the Holy Spirit. We all wanted to see more from our program than just another show. NEWSIES was an opportunity to unite, to encourage, and to bring a message of working together for something greater than our individual selves. As rehearsals progressed, people began to ask if they could join the cast or be a part of the show in some way. For a number of our cast,
it was the first time performing. Seeing God pull the perfect cast together was so exciting. Even before rehearsals started, God began to use the many messages of this show for His glory. We quickly learned that while the messages in NEWSIES may have come from secular playwrights, in the hands of God, they became a powerful word to our community. Between the talent and commitment of the cast, the messages of the show, and God’s hand guiding throughout, there was no way this wasn’t going to be an amazing production. But would it be good enough to go to ThesCon? On December 5, 2018, we found out the answer was YES! Our school will have the opportunity to perform in the largest venue at ThesCon. We are honored and excited to perform in front of thousands of people who love the arts as we do, and

to represent King’s Ridge Christian School and our Lord. Those students in our cast who have never been to ThesCon are in for a treat! The energy in the air is electric. It’s an audience and atmosphere like they have never before experienced. The NEWSIES cast worked very hard, for many hours, and sacrificed a lot of their personal time to share their God-given gifts. I’m so proud of them. As a director, I have shows that I dream of doing. This was one of them, but God’s vision was far greater than mine. It was a dream come true for me and because of that, I will never forget this cast. They will forever have a special place in my heart. Kathryn Winchell Theater and Production Arts

KRCS BOARD OF TRUSTEES MONTHLY KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT ALL FACULTY AND STAFF MEETINGS
SEPTEMBER 2018 Evan McLaughlin, KRCS Board of Trustees, his wife Cathy, and their children Keller, Hynds, Miller, and Morgan. Evan spoke about the power of community and has called all faculty and staff to be not just a part of King’s Ridge Christian School, but IN it.
OCTOBER 2018 Jim Jacobi, KRCS Board of Trustees, and his wife Allyson are the parents of KRCS students Yale, Anna Claire, and Drake and pre-school student Jett. Jim praised the faculty and staff for all they do for our students. He also challenged them with Ephesians 2:10. Jim shared that we are all created for good works which God prepared for us beforehand.
NOVEMBER 2018 Trenton Ward, KRCS Board of Trustees, and his wife Courtney are the parents of KRCS students Veronica and Mary-Katherine. Courtney also serves as a Jr. Tigers Cheer Coach. Trenton reminded faculty and staff to seek God’s direction in their lives and to believe strongly in the power of prayer. The next time you have an opportunity, ask him to share the story of why he and Courtney chose King’s Ridge Christian School for their daughters when relocating back to Atlanta from Washington, DC.
DECEMBER 2018 Tim Kittredge, KRCS Board of Trustees, and his wife Tarrah are the parents of KRCS students Lexi, Nate, and Ellison. Tim shared the story of his father, a teacher and coach, and the positive impact his career had on their family. He stressed the importance of the work that our teachers do in the classroom and thanked them for living our mission with work that pays eternal dividends.

Know Where We Are Going On October 23, 2018, the King’s Ridge community came together in celebration as we broke ground on the KRCS Upper School West Wing Classroom Addition. Mr. Tim Kittredge, KRCS Board of Trustees and Chair of the Christian Life Committee, delivered the ground blessing and to follow are excerpts from his speech.
We are gathered here this morning because God has answered our prayers. So many members of our community prayed long and hard about this building. The Board of Trustees and the Administration prayed when deciding to launch the capital campaign. The Advancement Committee prayed while raising the funds. The staff prayed while working diligently on the campaign. All of the donors — including parents, grandparents, administration, faculty, staff, alumni, parents of alumni, former Trustees, friends of the school, and foundations — prayed before so generously and faithfully giving to the campaign. The Building and Grounds Committee prayed while working through the bids and the plans. And this building was lifted up in prayer by many groups in our community, including small groups, prayer groups, faculty and staff groups, and so importantly our student groups. Thanks to all of you for your prayers. And, thanks be to God for answering them. This building will advance the school’s mission. King’s Ridge Christian School is a Christian community providing a college preparatory education equipping students to know, to serve, and to believe.
This place is more than a school — it is a Christian community. As a Christian community, we need space to gather together to love one another and to grow in our love for Christ. My prayer is that in this new building relationships amongst one another and with Christ will grow and strengthen. One of the elements required to achieve our vision of becoming the number one choice for a Christcentered, academically excellent college preparatory school is to have facilities that will draw families to our school and keep them enrolled here. God has blessed us with this land which is stunningly beautiful and with facilities that are distinctive and purposeful. The master plan envisions a campus that will provide the very best for its students. Today, another step is being taken towards fulfilling the vision for our campus and for our school. My prayer is that this building and our campus will attract even more families to King’s Ridge Christian School. This building is a gift to our current students and to students in this community for generations to come. Students, I pray that you know how very much you are loved by your parents and this community. It is because of this love for you that so

many have sacrificed and given to this building. We desire to give you the very best in life and to afford you every opportunity to grow to become all that God has called you to be. This building is also a gift to our faculty. We are blessed with incredible teachers. Thanks be to God for you. We are grateful for all that you give to our students. You sacrificially pour your love and your talents into the lives of our children. At this time, I would like to present to Dr. Jeff D. Williams a Bible that will be placed in
the cornerstone of the building. Inside of this Bible, David Rhodes, my good friend and our school’s second Headmaster and in whose honor the Upper School has been named, has written a prayer on behalf of our community. As instructed in Proverbs 3:5-6, we are placing this Bible in the cornerstone of the building to acknowledge that God is and always will be the foundation upon which this building and this school has been built. Our trust is in the Lord. We will not lean on our own understanding. In all our ways we will submit to Him. And, He will make our paths straight.

Know Where We Are Going This fall, we have seen an unprecedented amount of interest in King’s Ridge Christian School! Many of the inquiries have come from referrals from our parents, staff, and Board of Trustees. In addition to offering every prospective family a personalized tour of KRCS, the Admissions Office also oversees the following programs and events:
rising 5th grade parents to see what their Middle School children will experience. In addition, KRCS current 8th grade students have had the opportunity to shadow a 9th grade student. The enthusiasm and excitement that it has generated has been overwhelming and that feeling has become contagious.
PREVIEW DAY Our annual Open House was held on November 8 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. This event is a wonderful opportunity for current and new families to see what each grade level has to offer.
MOVING FORWARD On Friday, January 4, 2019, KRCS hosted 13 rising freshmen from area public schools for a shadow experience. We also welcomed 17 new students and their families to the King’s Ridge community for the spring semester! We have already accepted 9 new Pre-K students for the 2019-2020 school year and more tours are scheduled.
PREFECT PROGRAM Admissions Prefect Spencer Callavan and his committee assist Admissions with Upper School interviews, coordinate shadow experiences, and welcome new students and parents to campus. Spencer and his committee have been an exceptional and invaluable addition to the Admissions team. SNEAK PEAK INSIDE THE LOWER SCHOOL These seasonal one-hour sessions provide an overview of the Lower School philosophy, curriculum, faith development, and environment for prospective families. A student panel is also featured.

To Serve Everything about King’s Ridge Christian School in 2001 was a “leap of faith.” Our first location: a former grocery store. Our faculty: 23 passionate, faith-based educators and administrators. Our students: 195 children, aged 5 – 14, and the hopefilled families they represented. A community of like-minded, value-driven, God-honoring, people bonding together to build a Christian school. Our first introductory devotion to the new school community was titled, “Leap of Faith.” We posed this question to the audience: “Do you think one of our 5-year-old students could ‘leap’ a distance of 1 foot?” The obvious answer, “Yes.” Two feet? “Yes,” again. The lesson was clear: God will carry us through any life circumstances if we, in faith, leap. As a Christian, multi-denominational school, our Christian Education program focused then, and still to this day, on God, His Son, the Holy Spirit, and God’s inspired Word.

To Serve DAY OF SERVICE During the school year, each Middle School grade level has their own Day of Service. This fall, the 8th grade class served at Chestnut Ridge Nursing Home, Family Haven Thrift Store, and The Hope Store with cleaning and organizing. The 7th grade class spent their Day of Service at Meals by Grace, The Place, and Family Haven Thrift Store. MISSION TRIP Over the Thanksgiving Break, 60 Middle School students, 7 Upper School Junior Leaders and 6 faculty traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, and completed 438 total hours of service at these three places of need:
Operation Hope serves Montgomery by providing food, clothing, furniture, and other needs to families who qualify at no cost. Students sorted clothes, picked up furniture from donors, and put together Christmas trees so that families might have a tree for the first time. The Adullam House serves the children of incarcerated parents by providing them a home and an education. Some of our students worked in the thrift store, while others spent time with the children who live at the Adullam House. Crossroads Community Church hosted a free Thanksgiving meal for their surrounding neighborhood. Our students hung invitations for the meal on their front doors and others had the opportunity to pray with the residents.

To Serve This year, the KRCS ONE Association introduced JOY – Jesus Others You – with the mission to claim for Christ the students, families, faculty, and staff of King’s Ridge Christian School. Becoming a JOY volunteer (representative or warrior) begins in the heart. JOY representatives are volunteer parents who commit themselves to help other KRCS families in need of support in cases of illness, hospitalization, and loss. JOY warriors pray scriptures for a total of five hours (broken down into one-hour slots) each week. In Jesus’ name, I pray these scriptures over the King’s Ridge Christian School community… Walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. To Serve For the fourth year, KRCS students in all grade levels handcrafted pottery bowls in their art classes for the Empty Bowls Project, an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. The bowls were available for purchase during our annual Christmas at the Ridge event for a suggested donation of $5 and 100% of the proceeds were given to Meals by Grace. This Cumming non-profit creates, prepares, and delivers a hot nutritious meal and additional food items to children and families in need with limited or unreliable transportation. All of the beautiful bowls were sold and $1,500 was donated to Meals by Grace.

To Believe King’s Ridge Christian School is dedicated to sharing our vision, mission, and passion with students from around the world. Since 2015, our international student program has grown from three to twenty students, and the roster has included China, Taiwan, South Korea, England, Netherlands, Dubai, and Nigeria. Each spring, our International Student Coordinator Matt Watts visits our sister school in Shanghai, China — the Wenlai International School. Along with Shanghai, Mr. Watts visited Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to further expand the influence of King’s Ridge Christian School in the world. Two other people play vital roles in our international program. Carolyn Weathersbee serves as our ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher and helps students navigate our rigorous curriculum, and
College Counselor Vikki Park guides our students in the college application process to place them in top universities. None of this would be possible without our gracious host families, faculty, coaches, administration, and staff who pour love and support into the lives of our international students and model faith in their lives. Our international program plans to continue our strong partnership with the Wenlai International School, while also expanding to South America. When asked about the program, Mr. Watts remarked, “Working with students from around the world is a dream. To see the way our American students are impacted by kids from around the world and vice versa is nothing short of remarkable, and I’m blessed to be a part of it.”

The KRCS ONE Association merged Twice A Tiger and the Spirit Wear Store with a new and much larger modern store that offers all types of amazing KRCS spirit wear, nearly new uniforms, select school supplies, and partner merchandise from local retailers. Stop in and enjoy a cup of coffee while shopping! King’s Corner is located across from the football field and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

Believe Beyond The Ridge - Alumni Notes 2008 Ben Coffee graduated from the University of Georgia in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy and a Master of Arts in Teaching. He spent five years teaching physics in public schools. Ben and his wife, Liz, have purchased a home in Lawrenceville and are entering the next chapter of their lives. 2009 Libby Byrnes graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Secondary Education and is a teacher at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Georgia. 2010 Alexandra Einspahr-Williams graduated from the American University in Washington, DC. She has recently accepted a position with Teach for America as her Peace Corps service concludes. Bailey Deushane is a full-time Preschool teacher at North Point Community Church and mom to Elsie Kate born on May 16, 2016. Hannah (Rushin) Shores will graduate from the University of Georgia’s Speech-Language Pathology graduate program in May 2019. She has been married for over two years to Corey Shores, a worship leader at Mt. Bethel UMC. 2011 Courtney Guhl married Bradley Tyrrell on December 2, 2018, at West Milford Farm.
2012 Leah Kartovicky graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies and a master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Auburn University. Rachel (Smoltz) VanderPol graduated from Liberty University where she played Volleyball. She is now married to Joel, has a son, John Allen, and teaches high school at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. Charlie Welch graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance in May 2016. He recently accepted an opportunity with a national commercial real estate developer. Charlie currently resides in Dallas with his wife, Mary, and their golden retriever. 2013 Rachel Harris graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2017 and now lives in midtown Atlanta. She is employed by Synovus Bank as a Business Development Coordinator. Ansley (Jenkins) Willis and her husband, Joe, welcomed twin boys on November 14, 2018. Brooks and Brody join sister, Leigh, who is 2 ½. 2014 Taylor Hartman recently graduated from Samford University with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and is now obtaining a Masters of Accountancy and CPA. In the fall, Taylor will begin working in the Audit Department at KPMG Atlanta.

Believe Beyond The Ridge Shelly Sergio recently graduated from the University of Georgia with a double major in Political Science and International Affairs. She is currently a paralegal and plans to attend law school in the fall. Cara Taylor received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in May 2018 from the University of Georgia and is now enrolled in their Veterinary School. 2015 Anna Byrnes will graduate from St. Mary’s Notre Dame with a double major in English and Secondary Education with the Class of 2019 and will begin a teaching career.
Bethany (Sides) Brown and her husband Zachary welcomed Levi Benjamin Brown in November. 2016 Chloe Johnson attends Georgia State University. She studied abroad in Athens, Greece, during Thanksgiving Break 2018. Anna Kate Newell is majoring in Advertising at the University of Georgia and will graduate with the Class of 2020.
Penny Hart is a member of the Georgia State University football team, and he finished the 2018 season with 1,116 total yards of offense and is the fourth-leading receiver in Sun Belt Conference history with 2,950 career receiving yards. He is a three-time All-Sun Belt Conference honoree, including first-team honors in 2015 and 2017, and made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. Chynna Lau is currently studying Marketing at Georgia State University and working as a legal assistant. Remy Lazarus plays Safety for the Georgia State University football team, and he finished the 2018 season second in overall team defense with 75 tackles, 42 unassisted.

This year Carly’s team finished in the NCAA Division II Top Four! 2017 Caroline Barden is a sophomore at the University of Georgia and a Human Development and Family Science and Psychology double major. She is also a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority chapter at UGA and will be studying abroad in Innsbruck, Austria, this summer. Sean Lake spent his freshman year at Minnesota State University, Manketo, but now plans to transfer to the University of Georgia to pursue a degree in Sports Management with a double minor in Theatre and Sports Broadcasting. Sydnee Walker is a sophomore student-athlete at the University of Oregon pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a member of the track and field team. Sara Katherine Waters is majoring in Sociology with a Pre-Law intent at the University of Georgia. Ella Welch is currently a sophomore majoring in Industrial Psychology with a Minor in Music-Voice. Activities include Chi Omega Sorority - Alumni
Chair, Auburn University Singers, and Auburn Community Church. Ella plans to study abroad this summer in Italy with the AU Foreign Language department, School of Liberal Arts. 2018 Katherine Brown is majoring in Marketing at Georgia College. Annie Miller is on the UT Rowing Team, majoring in Spanish with a minor in Business at the University of Tennessee. Olivia Muscott is majoring in Health Promotion at the University of Georgia with plans to attend nursing school to become a nurse practitioner. Jordan Phelps is majoring in Pre-Law with a minor in Political Science and is a student-athlete in Women’s Tennis at Erskine College. Jordan also serves as Freshman Class President. The three Associations work together as ONE with the same mission, purpose, and vision by serving the school community through programs, events, and financial gifts designed to enhance and enrich the academic, spiritual, service, and social experiences of KRCS students. Why King’s Ridge Christian School? The last Sunday of Thanksgiving Break, my family and I were listening to a service provided by Browns Bridge Church. The message highlighted a family that attended church regularly. The message was simple, always make room for God. My wife and I have always made it a point to attend church regularly and make God a priority in our lives. As I listened to the message, I began to reflect on the day our oldest son, Isaac, became a Christian while attending a summer camp with Saint Simons Island Community Church. I also began to reflect on our daughter’s prayer with my wife as they traveled one day in the car. Bella and my wife were having a conversation that prompted her to accept Jesus as her personal Savior. As the service ended, I had to ask our youngest, Jamin, if he had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Jamin told me he prayed on his own for strength and guidance from God, but it was clear he didn’t completely understand how to become a Christian. Jamin and I discussed the Son of God as the only way to get to heaven. We talked about sin, forgiveness, mercy, and living a life for Christ. Jamin prayed the prayer and asked God into his life as he professed that Jesus was sent to this earth as the Son of God to die for our sins. In the end, Jamin and I celebrated with a big hug and know now that our family will be together for all eternity. There is nothing that makes my wife and me more proud of our kids than the day they became a Christian. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve and celebrate a mighty God. As Jamin returned to King’s Ridge that Monday, Mr. Schmitt asked the class if anything special occurred over break. Jamin shared with his class that he became a Christian. His classmates celebrated his new relationship with Christ with a great cheer. We are thankful that these types of celebrations exist in our school.
