PRESIDENTS REPORTS Welcome to the first edition of the Burst for 2018, it has been an exciting time for members at the club over the last three months, December was the monster ham and seafood raffles, the 26th January was a great Australia Day celebration. February 25th saw the fantastic members draw for the Toyota Corolla Ascent Hatch. The club has many more of these exciting promotions planned during 2018 details are in the Burst and on the clubs website/Facebook. I am very pleased to report that the club made a net profit of after tax $746,856 for 2017, this is an excellent result, given the additional expenditure that was incurred in renovating the old Bistro area into our new and exciting Jade Palace Restaurant and Kids Grove/Function Room. This good result was achieved through the hard work of the General Manager Ian Todd and the Management Team, the Board, our dedicated staff and of course the patronage of you our members. I will take this opportunity to extol the food and service at the club’s two great eating destinations,
Rations with its wide variety of western food, casual dinning at its best and the Jade Palace with a terrific variety of Asian Meals, check the menus on the Club website, note they both have daily board specials. A reminder to all members that the voting for the Club Elections will be held over two days this year, Friday 16th and Saturday 17th March, please take the time to cast your vote as it is your opportunity to decide who will be the Directors on the Club Board as they set the future direction of the club. It is pleasing to see that the members have endorsed the reelection of the Boards Executive for the next two years, it is indeed an honour to be President of this great club.
we provide a high level of service to our members and their guests. The Sub-Branch, Women’s Auxiliary and the Kingsgrove RSL Community Group have done a great job during 2017 in looking after their members and the Community especially the local nursing homes, sporting groups, schools and hospitals to name a few organisations who have benefited from their support. On behalf of the Board of Directors thank you for your continued support of this great club. We look forward to seeing you at the club some-time soon. Wishing all members and families a Happy and Healthy Easter.
The Clubs Annual General Meeting (AGM) is on the 27th March at 7.00pm, your attendance would be appreciated.
“If we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything”

GENERAL M ANAGERS REPORT It is with pleasure I present to the members the Financial Report for year ending 31st December 2017, with a net profit after tax of $746, 856.
in additional plant and equipment and renovations to the new Jade Palace. This has ensued in an increase in our financial expenses to $218K.
Following on from our major renovations in 2016 your Club achieved great growth in revenue of 9.5% to $10.5M from our gaming, bar sales and catering sales.
With the increases in depreciation and financial expenses the net profit decreased this year, however the Club’s overall equity has increased to $20.8M, a very strong financial position.
As part of our business plan the Club has undertaken to operate our own catering in Rations Dining. This has been very well received by our members as we now have two food offerings when you visit your Club.
The Club’s membership also achieved good growth of 7% and now stands at; Financial Members 7,567 Life Members 3 Associate Members 51 Total Membership 7,621
This has however placed a larger demand for additional labour with employee benefits increasing to 26% of our revenue. The Club has achieved a good result in Earnings before Depreciation and Finance cost of $2M, which is comparable to the year before. The Board and Management as part of our strategic plan have taken a strong review of the depreciation schedule on the property, plant and equipment of the Club. This has seen a large increase in this noncash expense of 37% to $1.1M. The Club’s borrowing have remained comparable to the previous year with total borrowings of $4.5M, as the Club invested a further $2M back into our Club
We are very proud of the opening of newly renovated Chinese restaurant Jade Palace which has become very popular with its great food and elegant furnishings to compliment your experience. This new food offering is a great addition to Rations Dining and Café for all your western meals, succulent cakes and fresh ground coffee. The Club’s elections will be held over two days this year on Friday 16th March and Saturday 17th March so as to provide ample opportunity for members who are eligible and wish to vote. The Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 27th March 2018 at 7pm.
Happy
Easter!
We are giving away 2,000,000 points throughout March and April so check the details in the Club to find out how you can be one of 20 lucky winners to receive 10,000 points. Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge is a leadership program promoted by RSL & Services Clubs Association and overseen by the KYLC Benevolent Fund. The challenge is aimed at young people in the community who are having difficulty in finding their way in society and is also used for young achievers with natural leadership skills. With more than 430 young men and women now having made the trek since the project commenced in 2005, it represents an investment of more than $3 million by Clubs in NSW. The leadership program aims to create a greater awareness among our young people of the sacrifices of the Diggers on the Kokoda campaign to ensure the tradition lives on, at the same time it instils in participants a commitment to community service and enhances their personal development by providing an opportunity for them to experience the same conditions under which our diggers fought. In 2017 for the first time, in association with RSL & Services Clubs Association, Kingsgrove RSL Club sent one young student with all expenses paid to Papua New Guinea to take part in 10-day trek across the 155km Kokoda trail. Jordan Awad, a 17-year-old student from Kingsgrove High school was the first recipient of this opportunity, heading out to Papua New Guinea in September 2017: “THANK YOU to all for this once in a life time life changing trip. I had a wonderful time on the trek surrounded by wonderful fun-loving people who were very supportive and likeminded in our motivation to finish Kokoda and in life in general. The track was very rugged and mountainous. If we found this gruelling, we can’t imagine what it would have been like for the soldiers who were fighting for their lives, with very little resources to sustain them. The most emotional part of my journey was when we visited Bomana War Cemetery and from atop the hill I looked out at the 3000 graves, this was only one of three grave sites. This put into perspective the numbers with which we had lost during the fighting on Kokoda and in PNG, however what I found most upsetting was reading the tombstones of young men and one woman who were all around our age. I would highly recommend this trip to all other student for next year. Thanks again for everything it was an amazing experience.” In 2018 Kingsgrove RSL Club will once again send another student on the KYLC and are currently seeking interest from Kingsgrove High School, Kingsgrove North High School and St. Ursula’s College with the lucky student being selected mid-March.

SUB BRANCH PRESIDENTS REPORT 2018 is the final year of the 100 years of ANZAC, we will be commemorating those incredible Australian men and women who in 1918 finally achieved victory after four long years of a war that created senseless carnage across Europe and the Middle East. This was the war they said was the war to end all wars sadly it was not to be. Australia could be justifiably proud of what their Service men and women achieved although there was a huge price in the hundreds of thousand’s Australians that were killed or wounded during the conflict. The ANZAC Day Service will follow the usual format, participants are to assemble in Shaw Street at 6.45am for the March to the Club/Memorial Park for the service. A breakfast served by members of the Women’s Auxiliary will be available after the service, all club members, their families and friends are welcome to attend. Our 2017 Remembrance Day Service was held on Sunday the 5th November, Cadets from TS Sirius and 233 St George Regional Cadet Unit made up the Catafalque Party and Guard, the Remembrance Day Address was given by Lt Col Schon Condon GCSJ, RFD, the Sutherland Shire Band provided the music for the service and they entertained the members and guests at the lunch.
Our next Commemoration Service and luncheon is in recognition of the Battle of the Coral Sea this will be held on Sunday the 6th May, the Service will commence at 10.45am followed by a luncheon, medals to be worn. Since my last Burst report your Far Southern Metropolitan District Council (FSMDC) representatives have attended meetings at the Padstow and Ingleburn RSL’s, our next meeting in March is at Bankstown RSL. Hopefully after this meeting I will be able to report on the outcome of the Bergin Enquiry and the NSW RSL State Branch response. I am very optimistic that with all the changes that have already been made at State Branch by the new President James Brown and his new team of State Councilors will set the NSW RSL back on the right path to restore its integrity and the RSL can get on doing what it has done for the last 100 years and that is to look after the welfare of ex-service men and women and their families and ensure we never forget the sacrifices of all those past generations of ex-service men and women.
Branch run efficiently. Vice President Neil Arena maintains our very impressive memorabilia cabinets and the Committee all pitch in when required giving up their own time to attend member’s funerals and commemoration services at local schools and nursing homes. Unfortunately, due to the problems being faced by the NSW RSL State Branch our Women’s Auxiliary were not able to do their normal fund raising during the year, the Father’s Day and Christmas Raffles were run by the club however all money raised will be donated to Charities nominated by the Women’s Auxiliary. “Success is getting what you want: happiness is wanting what you get”
Alan R. Barnes JP President
As this is the first edition of the Burst for 2018, I will take the opportunity to thank our dedicated Sub Branch Executive Secretary John Graham and Treasurer Peter Burgess, they do an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to make the Sub
COMMUNITY GROUP REPORTS
The Christmas deliveries to the nursing homes were very much appreciated by the residence of the three nursing homes that we visited over two days of a weekend in December. 300 presents in all were given out and the ladies have worked hard to make this achievable. Well done ladies. Now we start again for next Christmas. In March we are holding a morning tea/lunch for five different groups where we have coffee, tea,

cake, lunch and play bingo. Everybody who attends goes home with a present or two and enjoys a few laughs throughout the day. Also in March we will be delivering Easter Eggs to the nursing homes and we are delighted to see their faces light up when we hand them chocolate. We do craft days once a month at Bexley Aged Care and both the ladies and the residents who attend enjoy this hour together. We make cards, place mats,
