Welcome to our summer edition of the Burst, as we approach the festive season, it makes one realise how much has happened to our lives in the last twelve months, especially with the disruption of the recent lockdown, it now appears with the high uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine we have turned the corner and we are slowly regaining our freedoms and hopefully this will continue for 2022.

The Club reopened on Monday 11th October, it was great to be there and see the smiling faces of all the staff that were rostered on for this special day, they were all so pleased to be finally back at work and it was especially good to see the members arrive for the first time in three and a half months. My thanks to everyone for continuing to follow the staff instructions in relation to the signing in, hopefully all these procedures along with the masks will be dispensed sooner than later.

Given that there are still Government Health Order restrictions in place, we have been unable to bring back all our promotions however most are back, the Friday night raffles, Thursday night trivia to name a couple and December we have the very popular ham raffles with the mega seafood raffle on Friday 24th, check this edition of the Burst or the club’s website to see what else is happening at your Club.

The Clubs two food outlets are open and looking forward to providing members and their guests with great meals, take the time to check out Rations for great western food especially the chef’s daily specials or head upstairs to Poloy and try their delicious Asian meals.

Note the Club will be holding elections for the Club Board next year, full details of eligibility, right to nominate, mandatory training etc. are featured in this edition of the Burst, l would suggest that if you are thinking of nominating for the Board that you see the Club CEO Ian Todd and obtain a pre nomination kit and have a chat with one of the current Directors as to what is involved and expected of a Director.

The Sub-Branch, the RSL Auxiliary, and the Kingsgrove RSL Community Group once again played an important role with the Club and the community, our thanks to them for giving freely of their time to provide welfare checks for our members and those restricted to home or nursing homes.

Thanks to the Club CEO Ian Todd and the management team for maintaining the Club during the shutdown and organizing the various changes that were made to the gaming room and Rations area, there has been very positive feedback from the members.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S REPORT Thank you and Welcome Back.

It was great to once again be able to open the doors of our great Club on Monday 4th October 2021 and the support and patronage from members has been tremendous. It is an understatement to say the recent lockdown has taken a toll on all of us, so it is great to be able to catch up and see friends and family and to eat out at the Club once more.

Your Club continues to monitor the Public Health Legislation and advise, and to implement procedures that will ensure a safe environment for all our patrons and employees.

As expected, the lockdown of the Club for 16 weeks has impacted our financial forecast for the year and delayed our Strategic Plans, but we will continue with these in 2022.

ClubGRANTS Despite the lockdown the Kingsgrove RSL Club was once again able the support the ClubGrants scheme donating over $128,616 on behalf of our members to organisations and sporting clubs who all do outstanding work within our community. Please see the listing on page 6.

Carols By Candlelight Due to the Club lockdown and the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions the Kingsgrove RSL Club will not be holding our annual Carols by Candlelight event.

We have now commenced with reinstating many of our great promotions and functions and as we head into December there will be more to come.

Raffles Our Christmas Ham Raffles are always a great hit and this year will be no exception with 101 ½ leg hams being given away on Friday 3rd December and again on Friday 10th December.

Tickets are only $1.00 and are on sale from 3:30pm. Draw to commence at 5.30pm. On Friday 17th December we will also give away 48 ½ leg hams and 25 massive meat trays. There will be 250 half leg hams to be won over the three draws.

Friday 24th December will see our Seafood raffle take place in time for Christmas. Tickets are $1.00 and are on sale from 4.30pm. Draw to commence at 5.30pm to win an array of oyster’s, prawns and seafood trays.

Santa Photos Santa will return to Kingsgrove RSL Club on Saturday 11th December for photos with the kids. Sessions are available between 11am – 2pm but please make a booking to avoid disappointment.

New Year’s Eve Friday 31st December, see in 2022 with a bang here at Kingsgrove RSL with good food, good wine and great entertainment from Paul Winn Duo with Melanie Pell as we count down to the New Year. Tickets are $50 and seating will be limited.

Australia Day Join us to celebrate Australia Day on Wednesday 26th January 2022 with a mega raffle to win an assortment of great prizes, live entertainment, Happy Hour from 2pm – 6pm plus a free sausage sizzle and specials at Rations Dining.

Membership renewals will open on Tuesday 29th November 2021.

As the Club was closed for a large portion on 2021, come in and renew your Membership Subscription and receive an additional year free, also remember to collect your 2022 Bonus Pack which has a lot more on offer and the vouchers are great value. All members cards showing 2021 are due for renewal.

This year the Club will be closed on Christmas Day, although last years lunch and dinner were a great success the lockdown left us with very little planning time. We hope to return this in 2022.

In 2022 the Board of Directors will be seeking re-election. If you think you have something to offer and wish to nominate for the Board of Directors, please see page 4 for the details as there are a number of requirements each candidate must adhere too. If you seek any information on the election or nomination process, please contact me.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 29th March 2022 at 7.00pm I would like to take this opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas to Alan Barnes and the Board of Directors, to Peter Merlino and Peter Burgess and the Sub Branch Committee, to Yvonne Talbott and other members of the Sub Branch Auxiliary, to the members of the Kingsgrove RSL Club Ltd Community Group, to all the Sporting Club committees, and Poloy staff.

A Merry Christmas to my management team of Debbie Harris, Nuno Henriques, Lachlan Bate, Mar Clark, Ryan Kavanagh, Julia Qiu, Jarrod Maloney, Marianela Hernandez, the administration staff of Sophie Vassil, Sarah Mezentsef, Natasa Mervoski and Liz McLeod, to Head Chef Karl Bonwick and all the Rations Café and Dining Staff, as well as all the Club staff for all their efforts throughout the year.

KINGSGROVE RSL CLUB ELECTIONS 2022 DO YOU WISH TO BE A DIRECTOR OF KINGSGROVE RSL CLUB LTD? Nominations for the Board of Directors for the 2022 – 2023 term open on 1st January 2022 and close on 31st January 2022 at 5pm.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA •

You have been a financial member for more than three (3) consecutive years at the time of nomination.

•

Must complete the nomination form and have it signed by two members who have been financial for more than three (3) continuous years if a member prior to 2020 at the time of nomination. Five (5) continuous years after 2020.

•

Provide a candidate resume consisting of no more than 50 words.

•

Provide a statutory declaration in the form approved by the Board of Directors.

•

Must attend a Pre-Nomination Seminar to be held on Monday 31st January 2022 at 6.30pm.

KINGSGROVE R.S.L. CLUB LTD ELECTION & VOTING DAY

Ballots will be conducted at the Club premises on: FRIDAY 25TH & SATURDAY 26TH MARCH 2022 from 10am to 6pm.

Nominations for the Board of Directors will open on Saturday 1st January 2022 and will close on Monday 31st January 2022 at 5pm.

Nomination forms can be obtained at the Club reception or by contacting the Chief Executive Officer. Nomination forms must be proposed and seconded by a full financial member, who has been financial continually for the past three years. Nominees must sign their consent where provided on the form. A separate form is required for each position.

The names of all candidates shall be listed on the Ballot Paper as determined by lot, which will be drawn in the Auditorium at 6.00pm on February 8th 2022, in the presence of members who choose to be present.

The Returning Officer may, in their absolute discretion, upon receipt of a written application (to be made not less than three (3) days before the Ballot is to be conducted) from a financial member stating that by reason of illness, employment or any reasonable cause, he or she will be unable to attend the Clubhouse on the day set down, issue a Ballot Paper to such Member in respect of each Ballot being conducted. Postal Votes will close on March 11th 2022.

ELIGIBILITY TO VOTE In accordance with the Kingsgrove RSL Club Ltd Constitution Article 22.17 only members who have been a full Kingsgrove RSL Club member for a continuous period of 2 years or more at the date of the election are eligible to vote.

RIGHT TO VOTE & HOLD OFFICE In accordance with the Kingsgrove RSL Club Ltd Constitution Articles 22.5a and 22.6 only members who have been a full Kingsgrove RSL Club member for a continuous period of 3 years or more at the date of the nomination are eligible to nominate a member or are entitled to hold office as Directors of the Board of the Club including its Executive.

SUB BRANCH PRESIDENT Christmas and the Festive season will soon be upon us and as I always ask at this time each year, please spare a thought and a prayer for our many service men and women who are serving overseas and will not be home with their family and friends at this special time of the year.

Despite the ongoing Government Covid-19 restrictions we were able to hold a Remembrance Day Service and luncheon on Sunday 7th November at the Club, albeit adhering to the social distancing requirements, unfortunately this meant that we did not have our normal contingent of cadets from TS Sirius Cadets or the 233 St George Army Cadet Unit, however we did have representatives from both Cadet Units and the Army Cadets providing a catafalque party at very late notice. Due to the restrictions the Sutherland Shire Band and Sing Australia Choir Ashbury were not able to attend.

The luncheon held after the service was attended by the maximum number of members and guests we were allowed (56) and from the feedback everyone appreciated the opportunity to be mixing with their friends again and enjoyed the delightful meals provided by the Poloy Restaurant and the background music of Darren Johnstone.

Unfortunately, whilst the recent lockdown was in place, we had to provide an RSL Service for two of our members within the health restrictions that were in place, this meant that I was the only representative at the funeral of Michael Skennar, a WW2 and Korean war veteran, Mike was a long-time member serving on both the Club Board and the Sub-Branch Committee. We were

more fortunate with the funeral for Ken Edwards as we were able to have four Sub-Branch representatives at the service, our condolences to their families and friends and all other SubBranch members who passed away during 2021.

The Sub-Branch has commenced holding our bi-monthly meetings and the next meeting is set down for Monday 20th December, come along and join your mates for our Christmas Meeting, dinner and refreshments will be provided at the end of the meeting.

Your Sub-Branch delegates attended the first Far Southern Metropolitan District Council Meeting (FSMDC) since June at Padstow RSL and discussion centred around the motions that were coming up at the NSW RSL Congress that will be held via Zoom on the 6/7th December.

Our thanks to Sarah Mezentsef from the Club administration for all the assistance she provided for the Remembrance Day Service and luncheon and the Sub-Branch during the year.

To all our Sub-Branch and RSL Auxiliary members and your families, may you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year, and let us hope that we do not have to suffer any more lockdowns during 2022.

S P O R T S A D M I N I S T R AT O R With the continuing easing of the COVID restrictions, we are starting to see some normality in the Club which is allowing our Sporting Clubs to recommence their usual activities and enjoy their sporting competitions. The Sporting Clubs members are gradually returning.

The Darts have recommenced their Friday night social competition and the fun continues as usual. To find out more about our Darts activities please read the Darts report.

The Golf Club has also commenced their competition and their results and activities are included in the Golf report The Snooker Club have not yet recommenced due to the Club utilising the Sports Lounge due to social distancing restrictions but we are hopeful by next year the Snooker Club can resume.

The Fishing Club ceased during the year and we are hopeful on electing a new committee and they will be back to normal activities also by next year.

Disappointingly due to the lockdown none of our Sporting Clubs were able to hold their Annual Championship nor could we hold the Round Robin Harry Fanning Shield.

Hopefully next year will not be disrupted and all our Sporting Clubs will be back to normal, so if you are considering joining a Sporting Club maybe the New Year is the time to join. Just ask at Reception and they will give you the details of who to contact.

In Closing I would like to wish all the Sporting Clubs, Club Members, Staff and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Safe New Year.

K I N G S G ROV E RS L S P O RT I N G C LU BS DARTS CLUB As we go into the festive season I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you to management and staff for their help throughout the year of 2021 even though it has been a trying year for all of us.

We did not have our darts championship in July and August due to covid-19 so we will all have to try harder next year. As a result of this at our Christmas party there will not be as many trophies handed out to our members. A good time will still be had by all attending.

We will finish darts on Friday night 26th November 2021 where all members attending will receive a Christmas gift. We will start back on Friday 14th January 2022.

You may notice on a Friday night around the Club there are people wearing black and orange shirts. These are our new darts shirts. They look good when we are altogether.

Because of covid-19 we were not able to play competition darts from July to November so we are hoping we will be able to start again in February 2022. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

We always have room for new members to join our darts club so if you are interested come down on Friday nights and let yourself be known. It is $5.00 a night to play and we have fun nights throughout the year.

COMMUNITY GROUP What a year it has been. We usually have two luncheons during the year for the nursing homes but with covid-19 amongst us this did not happen in 2021. Hopefully we can start them up again in 2022 as I know all the residents and carers who attend these luncheons have a good time. Each one of them receives a present and we have 2 lucky door prizes to give away.

At this time I would like to thank the Club for supporting us in our mission to help seniors in our community, without your support we would not be able to do this. We, the Community Group, would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year for 2022. May our next year be a better one with covid-19 simmering down so we can achieve our goals.

This Christmas we are going to deliver presents to the reception areas of five nursing homes. We will do this over two weekends in December. The ladies have been busy through the year crocheting and knitting blankets, bears, bags, soap holders, and beanies to go to the residents of these homes.

The five nursing homes we deliver to are: Southaven Aged Care at Padstow, Casa Mia Aged Care at Padstow, Fairmont Aged Care at Bexley, St. George Aged Care at Bexley and Estia - Bexley Aged Care on Stoney Creek Road. There have been around 460 presents completed for the nursing homes. Well done ladies.

I would like to thank the members who have donated wool and various other items to us for our use in making the gifts. It is very much appreciated. If you would like to join our group just leave your details at Reception and I will get back to you. We meet once every two months to discuss what we are up to and then usually have lunch afterwards. Our next meeting will be in February 2022.

AUXILIARY After a challenging few months, it is great that we are able to return to the Club to meet and enjoy each other’s company.

Unfortunately, due to covid, the Auxiliary was unable to hold the Father’s Day raffle but we are pleased to conduct the Christmas raffle. Thank you to all the ladies for their time and effort selling the tickets and their donations towards the prizes. Special thanks to Tas Aronis for his contribution and to the Club staff, especially Sarah for assisting in preparing the prizes.

If you wish to join us in the Auxiliary, please contact one of the ladies or the Club Reception, and you would be most welcome. Meetings are held each 4th Monday of the month at 6.00pm.
