Welcome to Sport at Kings’ Al Barsha The programme is designed to ensure that our students have the widest possible exposure to competitive and recreational sport.

Kings’ Al Barsha Sports Overview September 2019— July 2020 Communication The competitive sports programme across Dubai schools is supported by DASSA. They provide a timetable of when each sport is played competitively. Our schedule then supports this timetable.

All schools taking part in the competitive leagues use a sports website to communicate fixtures and results. The website also provides parents with location maps, timings and confirmation of teams. Parents can access this website by using the address below:

www.kingsalbarshasport.com It is parents responsibility to regularly check the website for any changes to fixtures, timings, drop off or pick up times.

The website is our main channel of communication regarding sports activities. However, from time to time we will also use the school communicator to alert parents to any urgent information.

If parents wish to contact the PE team, or the sports coordinator we ask that they email.

If an appointment is necessary to speak directly to a member of staff one will be made which does not impact on teaching times. Email addresses can be found at the back of this booklet.

Team Selection Where possible we provide a term of training prior to the competitive season. This allows for the coaching staff to see students over a longer period before team selection .

For those sports whose competitive season is in Term 1 we will have their trials at the start of the academic year. Parents will be notified via email and the communicator of trial dates and timings.

Once trials have taken place, parents will be sent a letter via email confirming their child’s place in a competitive team. In most sports we endeavour to have A, B & C teams.

Competitive Sports Kit There is a requirement for our competitive sports teams to wear the compulsory kit for each sport that has a full competitive season. Our kit is provided by Kukri Sport and parents are required to purchase these items upon receipt of a letter confirming their child’s place in a team. Details of the Kit required and where to obtain will be included in the letter sent.

Kings’ Al Barsha Sports Overview September 2019— July 2020 Roles & Responsibility It is both the parent and child’s responsibility to ensure they attend training and fixtures in accordance with the schedule. We ask that parents of our primary students ensure when dropping their child for any morning sessions the coach is in attendance before leaving their child.

Parents are required to collect their child from the respective sports area. If they are running late and the child is not there, please collect from within the sports block.

We request that parents/guardians/drivers are prompt in the collection of their child after fixtures or training. Failure to attend a training or consistently late collection after training or fixture, may result in the PE staff member removing that student from the team.

It is the responsibility of the parent or student to notify the coach if they are unable to attend training. If unable to attend a fixture the school asks that as much notice as possible is provided to allow for an alternative student to be found to ensure the fixture is not adversely affected.

Conduct Sport is a very important part of school life at Kings’ Al Barsha. It is participated and enjoyed by large numbers of children of all ages and abilities throughout the school. Our aim is to make sport attractive, safe and enjoyable for everyone, to protect players, coaches, teachers and parents. We send out a code of conduct with our competitive team selection letter and ask that both parents and students sign up to this.

Transportation Secondary students: Our students will be transported by school transport to any fixture being held at a neighbouring school then returned to Kings’ School Al Barsha.

Primary students: Our students will be transported to an away fixture by school transportation. However, parents are required to collect their child at the end of the fixture.

In order for students to be transported by school transportation we will need a signed permission form. This will accompany our confirmation of team selection letter.

Swimmers will be expected to commit to the swim squad for the entire year as competitions take place over all three terms.

Swimmers will be given the opportunity to change their squad training days and times, depending on availability at the end of each term to allow for participation in other sports. Swimmers need to discuss changes with their swim coach.

Kings’ Al Barsha Secondary Swim Squads Selection for the swim squad is based on a mixture of time trial and technique in all 4 competitive strokes.

Swimmers will be grouped within their year group for both training and competitions for the whole year.

All swimmers will have the opportunity to compete within the DASSA Swim League, in club championships and other swim competitions.
