LITERATURE FESTIVAL

We have had another exciting year in English as we have continued to delve into the worlds of authors, poets and play wrights. The students have continued to learn and appreciate how Shakespeare is as relevant today as he was over 400 years ago, how poetr y has the power to shape the societ y we live in, and how drama can be political as well as enter taining. The KS4 students had the wonder ful oppor tunit y to see this for themselves on stage when we watched the produc tion of their GCSE tex t An I nspec tor Calls, per formed by West End ac tors, on stage at The Junc tion in S eptember. I n Februar y, the Year 10 students were also luck y enough to be par t of a workshop with the renowned author Alw yn Hamilton who shared her writing journey to inspire future writers at K ings’. The English corridors have been buzzing this year with the many oppor tunities that students have been involved in. Well done to the students that competed in the Chevron Readers’ Cup this year which is par t of the Emirates Festival of Literature and those who entered the Literature Poetr y Festival in Oc tober. We are proud to have such avid readers and aspiring poets here at K ings’. The English Depar tment is also proud to have a team of English Ambassadors across KS3, KS4 and KS5 who have developed their sk ills within the subjec t, their leadership sk ills, and KSAB values. We look for ward to welcoming more students to the team nex t year. Finally, we would like to say a huge well done to our Year 11 students. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.
