Our ECAs and House competitions, from the Formula One Club to Vogue and Design Club to Tast y T V, continue to prove popular with our secondar y and primar y students alike. I t is great to see such interest and enthusiasm from such a mix of ages and abilities. We especially love welcoming the primar y students to our k itchens and workshops, and seeing them star t their Design Technology journey with us early!

We are continuing to make links with industr y and have had talks with chefs and catering colleges to enhance the food technology experience. Within the Design industr y our connec tion with the Dubai I nstitute of Design and I nnovation (DIDI) continues to grow with excursions during Design week and presentations from key speakers within school. We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Carlos Alber to M ontana-Hoyos, an award-winning designer and academic, with interests in interdisciplinar y and cross- cultural approaches to design and research exper tise in Design for


Health, Biomimicr y and Sustainabilit y to K ings’ to facilitate a design related talk to KS4 students. This presentation discussed what design is and what the career aspec ts are in the current industr y and the prospec ts of how the design industr y will change in the future. M ak ing these clear links to the design industr y is imperative to engagement and enthusiasm, mak ing learning within the depar tment relatable and progressive towards future career options.
Suppor ting the Tour De K ings’ is always a highlight within the depar tment - uniting all aspec ts of Design Technology ; incorporating elements from Graphics, Resistant M aterials and Food Technology to create the stalls, packed with culinar y delights from around the world that are always a hit with students and teachers alike!
