STEM We have had a fantastic academic year in the Science depar tment, star ting with excellent results from the GCSE examinations, par ticularly the separate award Science groups, who produced an outstanding set of results. We have been on an exciting journey this year, improving the core sk ills and attributes of all of our scientists from Year 7 up to Year 13, which has resulted in pieces of scientific work that are of a higher qualit y than ever before seen at K ings’! For example, we have seen unbelievable ‘escape to space’ projec ts from our Year 8 scientists, fantastic medical analysis work from Year 12 biologists and superb Antarc tica-based research station models, which our Year 7 scientists have built from scratch! There has been an amazing surge in scientific curiosit y this year, due to both the love for Science within the K ings’ communit y, and the persistent hard work from ever y science teacher to bring each student the best science education they could ever

have.

We have had many exciting oppor tunities take place this year, such as medical professors giving seminars about DNA analysis and inheritance to our KS4&5 students, internal science debates and competitions. However, without doubt, our most exciting moment of the year was winning the annual Golden Bunsen Burner science competition, where 4 of our K ings’ students beat ever y other school in Dubai with their superior scientific k nowledge and talent! We look for ward to rolling out many more oppor tunities nex t year, and keeping the Science corridors buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement!

ARABIC VERSE This year has been a joyous, busy year filled with a diverse range of activities that have been met with unparalleled passion by our students. The year commenced by preparing our Year 5 and 6 students for the Emirates Literature Festival. We are exceptionally proud of Noha who won first place to the UAE poetr y writing competition, which is a testament to her linguistic prowess and flair in Arabic.

Whilst reaping fruits of our hard work , our Year 2 students worked in silence to per form a remark able play in front of their parents.

Our four th graders organised a militar y walk attuned to Emirati militar y music in the school’s front hall. We then saw our students paying homage to Sheik h Zayed and Sheik h Rashid’s great legac y, by presenting poems

in the theatre amongst masses of overjoyed students and proud parents. Ar t week did not hamper our student ’s zeal. Their ar twork conveyed the centrality of Arabic to the Ar t s; a value we highly up hold acro s s our sc hool ’s sk y. And just as it was o f a great honour to wit ness our st ude nt s’ growt h, we invited p arent s to sha re t h i s p leasure by im mer sing in t heir c h i l dre n’s c lasses. EXPRESSIVE ARTS

As an Expressive Ar ts Faculty we have worked hard this year to expand the collaborative Ar ts oppor tunities available to our students at KSAB. In Term one, all Drama and Music students were given the oppor tunity to work with professional musical theatre ac tors from Ar tsEd in London. The projec t consisted of three weeklong workshops culminating in a per formance at the end. The first projec t, offered to Music and Drama students in Years 9-13, involved a week of rehearsals in the drama studio, work ing through choreography, ac ting classes and vocal workshops. Many of our students were given the oppor tunity for the first time, to per form to a large audience, this demonstrated an immense amount of courage and commitment. I t was a pleasure to see so many students develop such wonder ful sk ills in Musical Theatre.

The second projec t saw all Year 5 and 6 students across all three Kings’ schools come together on stage in a musical theatre bonanza per forming singing and choreography from some musical theatre favourites. The final projec t showcased our secondar y Emirati community and students involved in the projec t created a National

Day inspired per formance to celebrate the culture and heritage of the UAE. In Term two, we saw the first student organised Ar ts’ event!

Our BTEC Music Tech student organised a fantastic talent show K-Fac tor. The evening showcased a real medley of talent from songs per formances, to stand-up comedy and anything inbetween.

The event also allowed our Key Stage 5 students to develop their enterprise and event management sk ills.

Our biggest event of the year was our annual Secondar y Expressive Ar ts Produc tion. This year we saw our largest cohor t of student involvement with over 50 students tak ing par t on stage! ‘Grease’ was the produc tion of choice and it proved to be a real hit with our Kings’ community who got involved by wearing their finest 1950s attire at each showing. Collaboration from the Music, Ar t, Drama and Design Technology teams saw that the show was a real success and we can’t wait for nex t year ’s produc tion!
