MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION Today’s footprint is tomorrow’s legacy. I welcome you to the first edition of ‘The Book’, a memoir of events past. Kings' is so much more than chalk and talk, it truly is about embracing the whole child, broadening horizons and providing students with the confidence to push themselves out of their comfort zones and to quite simply ‘give it a go’. ‘The Book’ is an opportunity for reflection as well as an opportunity for our students to get a little taste of what’s to come in their years ahead at Kings’. Whether you’ve been with us for one year or six years, you are a part of the Kings' legacy, one that can be
4
recorded and revisited in years to come. Our students make a difference every day and the key to their individual success is in observing community spirit and embarking on a shared journey. Within Kings', it is evident that no goal is considered met, unless it is met for everyone. Every student makes it their job to ensure no one is left behind. Whoever you are, whatever you want to be, it is achievable. I sincerely hope you enjoy flicking through the first edition of ‘The Book’ and that you get as much pleasure reflecting on the memories made in 2020-21 as I have. Rebecca Gray Director of Education

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR This year has been been a memorable year that has seen the whole school community come together like never seen before. The return of face to face learning has allowed us to approach events in a more creative way. The use of virtual platforms has allowed us to embrace whole school events, such as The Kings' Olympics and International Day in a whole new light.

We hope you enjoy reviewing the achievements and celebrations that took place at Kings' this year. The Book has been a huge amount of fun to put together. It has been a real eye-opener as to just

THOUGHTS OF THE YEAR
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to Kings' School Dubai's first-ever edition of 'The Book', a pictorial celebration of the year that was, a year like no other! A great school should be about happiness, a feeling of belonging and community, an environment where children and adults feel safe and secure, a place for children to challenge and express themselves. School should also be about joy, awe, wonder, intrigue, and opportunity. While the global pandemic and associated COVID-19 restrictions meant many aspects of school life looked different, that did not mean that learning opportunities, along with our annual community events and celebrations should not happen. It simply meant that Kings' had to do things differently. This year has been a year of resilience, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. Every aspect of school life had to be re-thought and re-packaged, with the outcome being continued enriched experiences for all. My sincere thank you to our children of Kings'
6
School Dubai for their positivity, resilience, dedication to learning, and for the joy they brought each day. You have all continued to flourish and made the year more than memorable. Thank you to our incredibly flexible academic and admin team who adapted and innovated practice to ensure the best learning experiences possible. Your contributions have been nothing short of remarkable. Thank you to our wonderful support staff who kept us all safe with increased cleaning, sanitizing, and security schedules, which were always completed with a smile on their faces. And finally, thank you to our parent community for the overwhelming levels of support and cooperation that we received, and for working with us to collectively achieve 'The Best by Every Child'. We hope you enjoy 'The Book' as you look back with fond memories on the year that was. Bede Higgins Principal
KINGS’ SCHOOL DUBAI | The Best By Every Child
MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY HEADTEACHER As I reflect on the end of yet another eventful and memorable year at Kings School Dubai, I am once again astounded by the incredible resilience, tenacity and spirit of all our young learners. Back in September, we knew that this year was going to be different – however I’m not sure that any of us fully understood just how different it would be! While it seems like almost every aspect of school has been carefully re-planned, re-considered, re-imagined and changed. The one thing that has not changed is the children’s drive and determination: to succeed; to meet challenges head on; to engage in every single learning opportunity and to do so with zest, enthusiasm and a smile – albeit masked; and ultimately to flourish!
positivity and grit. Kings’ School Dubai has always been an exceptional place where exceptional things happen… and this year has been no exception! Whether it be in classrooms, in corridors or in car parks (think Let’s Perform), or on pitches, on stages and on Zoom – everyone in the school community has worked tirelessly and together to ensure that this year has been exceptional too. And it is therefore with an enormous sense of privilege and pride that I look back on the year, captured so perfectly in pictures and words throughout this book, with the knowledge that what we achieved at KSD this year was something special! Georgia Lavery Deputy Headteacher
The Teachers, Learning Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and Support Staff have also amazed with their adaptability,

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD BOY It's a huge privallege to be Head Boy this year at Kings' School Dubai. Ever since I joined in Year 2, I had a instant connection with the loving school community and I knew that it would have a positive impact on my life. I have really enjoyed helping in being a part of various evenrts and being able to express my different strengths and talents. Being Head boy has given me the opportunity to contribute in many positive changes in the school whether its competitons or being involved with different academic events.
Kings' Dubai has allowed me to explore and excel in a range of activities from Sports, Music, Academics, and the Performing Arts. This holistic approach to supporting children in every aspect of school life has meant that our school has maintained an ‘Outstanding’ status since 2011, when inspections began, an achievement no other school has replicated. Fittingly, our motto is ‘The Best by Every Child’ and it is seen and felt every day in this supportive and diverse family environment.
Manaka George Mtemererwa Head Boy

Kings School hasn't only helped me improve my intellgence but also helped me in sports, performing arts and many more activities you would usually do outside of school. Kings has a great community and it would be hard not to make friends on the first day, the teachers are always challenging and try to help in all ways possible. This school helps everyone improve, even in things that they are not as great in such as the football squad, which has a development and advanced team. Kenu Peters Year 6 Student

It means to stop bullying because if you keep bullying more people will get sad and it will spread bullying. You should be kind to other people and respect their opinions and don’t bully and let them play. Matheus Lomba Macrini 2GBA

WORLD BOOK DAY Kings’ School Dubai was an array of colour on World Book Day, as children and staff made an effort to dress up as their favourite book characters. Throughout the day, children from across the school took part in some exciting book-based activities. It was a wonderful sight to see, all of the children enjoying such magical stories with their friends. Our school was then turned into a huge library, as all of the classroom doors were
40
transformed into the front covers of the class’ favourite book. We saw Elmer, We’re going on a Bear Hunt, Harry Potter, and everything in-between! The children also got the chance to play ‘The Masked Storyteller’ where teachers from all year groups, got into fancy dress as a character and read an extract from their storybook. The children loved guessing the characters and finding out who the teacher was on the reveal! Dean Tinney and Marnie Taylor Leaders of English
