I am very excited to send you my warmest greeting and congratulation to the 2021 JCI Johor Bahru Inauguration Ceremony. Despite the 2020, a year of unforeseen global pandemic that has impacted on our livelihood, economical, mental health and well-being, most of our JCI events are transforming from physical to online and/or hybrid to make all of us staying connected, and united as ONE JCI Family. JCI Malaysia have been one of a strong National Organization with great leadership, dedicated and inspirational members who lead outstanding projects and impact the communities and building young leaders in our organization. To welcoming a new year of 2021, which I would like to express my congratulation to you in your new journey as 2021 National President of JCI Malaysia, to your Board of Directors, Local Presidents and members of JCI Malaysia as a whole. Under your leadership and your slogan of “Enabling Leaders”, I believe that you will be leading JCI Malaysia with sustainable development and growth, and will be creating more leaders for the better world, impacting the community beyond borders.

armest greetings to all of you on your occasion of your 2021 Installation and Awards Ceremony. 2021 will be a brand-new start to us and all over the globe, yet I believe that we shall overcome the obstacles together and making 2021 shine bright in the new norm. In this delightful event, I would like to congrats the newly elected President Kent Tan Che Chyn to lead JCI Johor Bahru in year 2021. With your presidential theme “L.O.V.E.”, I believe that you will lead your members to strike better in this era of new norm. JCI Johor Bahru will be able to create a different angle of impact in 2021 within your local community. I wish you all the best to achieve another milestone and I am looking forward to work together with you in 2021. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to 2020 President Andrew Heng Kean Woi and his board of directors who had done a fabulous job in 2020 despite facing the pandemic. You have shown the extraordinary leadership in combating the pandemic and hopefully you may continue to support the incoming Board of Directors by providing your precious experiences and guidance to ensure JCI Johor Bahru continues to flourish.

The focus in 2021 is Enabling Leaders. JCI Malaysia believes that enabling JCI members with leadership skills is the way to drive our organisation forward and beyond in 2021. To achieve the goals, the main FOUR focus on DOTS will connect each of us together and rowing into the same direction.

-Development, JCI Malaysia believes that leadership development program will nurtures new talents and enhances the current talents to maximise the potential of JCI in different levels to create global impact.

-Opportunities, with competent leaders at local levels, JCI Malaysia will provide collaboration platform to ensure Local Organisations able to explore different stakeholders and partners through various entrepreneurship programs.

Well done to President Kent Tan on your dedication to lead your fellows Board of Directors and members throughout this incredibly special year. Being a leader, we are responsible for the growth of the organization, especially during crisis. After your term as a president, I hope you will continue to assist your incoming president and chapter with your knowledge and experiences. Of course, I would love to send my genuine congratulations to (2021 LO president name) for the successful election. Your members have casted their votes on you because they entrusted the future of the LO to you. Upon succession of this essential role, you are acting and representing your local organization throughout the year. I look forward to seeing you giving your best to grow yourself and also the members, as well as empowering your community and see the values of your local organization. In 2021, JCI Malaysia National’s theme is – Connecting the D.O.T.S (Development, Opportunity, Transformation, Sustainability), initiated by our National President JCI Senator Chew Hooi Mei, with the aim to nurture leadership skills, connect with stakeholders, standardize JCIM management system, and systematic evaluation for LO.

And we would love to see these goals being achieved together. Unity is the strongest foundation for a successful team. As your national executive vice president, I would do my absolute best to align JCI Malaysia values to your organization to see our nation working together for the same goals. This year, JCI members might be so looking forward to having physical projects such as area academy, conventions, gatherings after MCO for months. I also hope that all these projects can be done physically this year if the situation allowed. Area Central South Committee Team will definitely prioritize our members’ safety first, and at the same time work hand-in-hand to see if these projects can be conducted physically with SOP compliance. 100% Efficiency is a basic guide for Local Organization to learn how JCI management works. We joined JCI because we want to see improvements in ourselves, in our career, in our family. Thus, “to improve is to start practising”. In 2021, I urge all JCI Local Organization unite as a team to help one another in practising and achieving 100% Efficiency, not only for the awards, but to assure the growth and development opportunities your LO offers to your members. Leadership is a skill that can never be learned by saying, and that is why in JCI we are always taking action! It does not matter whether we won the champion tittle or not, but it DOES matter that we strive to be one! Despite of pandemic, the whole installation award ceremony is perfectly plan and well organized. I am amazed with the teamwork and hard work that JCI Johor Bahru have given to push this through. First of all, I would love to extend my deepest gratitude to congratulate Organizing Chairman, Gerald Ho for giving his time and effort in organizing this IAC. You have lead your committee team well and making sure every single of them execute their roles. Well done! Keep up the good work! This year, as a National Vice President assigned to JCI Johor Bahru. As the President from JCI KL West, I would like to congratulate Kent Tan for being elected as 2021 President in JCI Johor Bahru. Kent is a guy that very fun person to talk with, and at the same time also very serious on his works. As the typical ‘work hard play hard’ style, he always takes initiative to get things done and will make sure things work out accordingly. He’s also very committed to the task handling by him. Despite that we are still unable to foresee when will the current pandemic going to end, I do strongly believe that under Kent’s leadership he will lead and serve the organization with his best abilities. 一年半來，大家辛苦了。去年年初台北一別，我們還笑著說下個月我們新山見，沒想到又急又快的疫情就到來，新山行必須再等等。恭喜我的好同學Andrew會長，在帶領新山JC登上一個巔峰以後，光榮的卸任，這一年多來我們無法見面卻也數次透過線上、語音的方式繼續聯繫著。棒子交出去了，責任卸下了，卻也有新的身份要繼續扶持著JC往前。相當期待我們可以早日去新山見見，新任的Kent會長，我只有在zoom的鏡頭前面見過，雖然如此也深刻感受到Kent會長的熱情和積極，大力地推動各種線上活動、視訊課程，讓更多的年輕人使用身邊的手機、電腦就可以參與JC。疫情逼迫著科技的發展，不得不加速的讓 internet取代了international，即使在遙遠的3,200多公里，也可以1秒來到面前。還記得時漢主席帥氣的身影，知道時漢前輩連任OB主席感到非常開心，看到OB前輩們就像看到自己的哥哥姐姐一樣。祝福各位前輩OB們，各位年輕的JC們，疫情會過去，所有JC成員身體健康、事業順心，誠摯的邀請姐妹會的大家再來台灣作客，我們繼續彼此的跨國情誼。

t is my great honour to be 2020 JCI Johor Bahru president. With my presidential theme “Enjoy Your JCI Journey”.

of your commitment. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your untiring effort. I am proud of you all!

2020 is a year of great transformation for people all over the world, especially us in Malaysia. Because everyone is experiencing the Covid 19 outbreak. This year’s pandemic also made us have to change our way of working again. Everyone must learn to stay at home to work and perform most activities online.

I would like to send my hearties congratulation to 2021 President Kent Tan and his BODs. I believe under his leadership and knowledge can bring JCI Johor Bahru another greater height. Also, I would like to express my gratitude to the organizing chairman, Past President Gerald Ho and his committees for successful hosted JCI Johor Bahru 31st Installation and Awards Ceremony. Thanks for the hard work to accomplish it.

Fortunately, as a member of JCI, we remain an active citizenship mindset to serve our community. Last year, totalling online and offline, we had organised more than 80 events from all sizes. We do mainly organise community jobs. Of course, this is our pleasure that all our members have worked together to have the opportunity to complete refurbish of our secretariat at Larkin.

irst of all, as the ceremony Organizing Chairman, its my pleasure to welcome all JCI members and friends to witness our JCI Johor Bahru virtual 31st Installation and Award Ceremony.

Taking this task as an organizing chairman is a blessing that I am being appointed and supported by both 2020 and 2021 JCI Johor Bahru Board of Directors. Special thanks to President Andrew Heng and President Kent Tan to believe in me. I hope that me and the team did not disappoint your expectation. Definitely, something is different this year. As according to 1st proposed plan, we were get ready organizing this ceremony online as like usual years and execute during when Johor were in government’s Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) at 2020. However our plan was being disrupted by the pandemic outbreak that heavily affected our community, yet we were still holding to the string not to go online immediately and hoping the situation will recover therefore we are able to hold this installation and award banquet as usual . The main reason we are insist to hold this annual event offline physically is because, this event is so meaningful that able to bring all alumni, members and friends closer and an opportunity for mingling around. In result, we are unable to see any recovery symptom happen in any near future of 2021, leaving us last option to do it virtually to reduce contact and do our part of breaking the virus chain. Yet we will still keep our strong believes that we are able to see you all very sooner in coming future.

Since our event had decide to move online in a sudden, its become a huge challenge for me , almost every part is first time for me. Taking this opportunity, I would like to give a huge thank for all the support from my organizing team, the fully support with ideas and dedicated their time committing this change, a specially thanks for Clement Lee to give me guts to continue this project, he is positioning as project’s program director, chief editor and chief photographer, without this strong man, this project will be unexpected tough for me to accomplish. Behind the screen has a team that also received a good amount of challenges, taking task that they did the very first time too. I believe this able everyone to learn something new, adding value to their abilities during this pandemic outbreak that had messed up our time schedule. Please do find our IAC live event on our Junior Chamber International Johor Bahru Facebook page, in this event since we it bring us to online, we try to make a little different from previously, presenting to our guest something new. My objectives for this event are to have fun, teamwork and challenge yourself. To our Guest Of Honor Menteri Bessar Johor, Yang Amat Berhomat Dato Haji Hasni Bin Mohammad and MBJB City Councilor Encik Mohd Hairi Bin Mad Shah share plenty of useful information to us, we do hope we are able to have more collaboration with the government sector. 1915

Founding A Movement

y the age of 18, Henry Giessenbier Jr. formed the Herculaneum Dance Club, a social outlet for the community’s youth. Unknown at the time, Giessenbier was laying the foundation for what would become a global movement. On October 13, 1915, the first JCI Movement was founded when 32 men joined to form the Young Men’s Progressive Association (YMPCA) at the Mission Inn located in their hometown of St. Louis, USA.

St. Louis Chamber of Commerce Emblem

he Young Men’s Civic Progressive Association members received acknowledgement from the broader community, however on November 30, 1915 official recognition of the organization was granted after enrolling as a member of the Mayor’s Conference of Civic Organizations. One year later, the YMPCA became known as the Junior Citizens and soon the Junior Chamber of Commerce, after affiliating with the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce.

The First National Convention

n June 1920, with 41 cities present, the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce held their first official convention, where their first constitution was adopted and the first President, Henry Giessenbier Jr., was elected. Giessenbier closed the ceremony with his expressed goals for the organization: “We have definitely launched a great institution into the world of progress. Let us hope that from this institution will emerge citizens of loftier ideals, higher privileges, greater opportunities, purer patriotism, broader ideas of service and greater capacity for happiness.”

Aviation Expansion & Voting Participation

n 1926, after gaining Charles A. Lindbergh, commercial aviation pioneer, as a member, the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce pursued to expand aviation throughout the United States by working to establish and promote airport construction, encourage air mail usage and mark towns for easy identification from the air. That same year, the Get Out the Vote campaign was initiated in which the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce became the first national organization to conduct a systematic campaign to educate citizens of their civic duty to vote. CI members partnered with Pan American Airlines during the 14th JCI World Congress to connect young active citizens with JCI members from around the world.

n December 11, 1944, the Inter-American Congress was held in Mexico City. Representatives from the United States, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama gathered to officially establish Henry Giessenbier’s 24-year-old civic association as an international organization, Junior Chamber International.

The First JCI World Congress

n 1946, with their new international presence recognized, the first JCI World Congress took place in Panama City, and included the adoption of a provisional Constitution.

1954

Operation Brotherhood

xemplifying the value of brotherhood, JCI’s first international campaign launched in 1954. Operation Brotherhood was developed through collaborating with the United Nations to support refugees fleeing communism in Vietnam. The campaign included large-scale fundraising efforts that raised US $1 million, assisted more than 730,000 individuals through health and wellness programs and created more than 350 community living spaces for refugees.

Project Concern JCI and the United Nations

n 1965, Project Concern was started to administer dental and primary care to underprivileged individuals in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Mexico and the Appalachian Mountains in the United States. While the program grew internationally in 1965, it was started by JCI Hong Kong in 1962, spreading to other National Organizations before its international adoption.

hroughout the 1970’s, membership growth among women soared and in 1971 the first female National President was elected in Nepal.

tarting in the 1980’s, organizational themes focused heavily on equality, internationalism and world peace in response to civil conflicts, assassination attempts and acts of terror as well as increasing global inflation and an oil and energy crisis. At the 1982 JCI World Congress in Seoul, South Korea, delegates skipped lunch to raise funds and support for disadvantaged populations on the North and South Korean border.

Peace and Literacy for Children

he first Earth Run at the 1986 JCI World Congress promoted UNICEF and “Global Peace for Children.” Later, in the 1990s JCI officially established a partnership with UNICEF based on the organizations’ mutual commitment to protect and support children. In another project dedicated to child development, members of JCI Hong Kong established the first children’s library and provided mobile libraries to the Social Welfare Office in 1986.

Other celebrations included publishing a JCI Golden Anniversary Book to commemorate 50 years of history since founding internationally in 1944.

n November 30, 2002, JCI stakeholders attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new location of the JCI World Headquarters. After nearly 50 years of being located in Tulsa, Miami or Coral Gables, USA, the headquarters relocated back to the city where the JCI Movement was founded, St. Louis, USA. The building was inaugurated on June 23, 2004.

JCI Adopts the Millennium Development Goals

irst a resolution of the JCI-UN Leadership Summit, in 2004 JCI members committed to join leaders around the world to advance the Millennium Development Goals. Members globally continued to runnational and local projects aimed to advance these eight global development goals, which ranged from eradicating extreme hunger and poverty to combating HIV/ AIDS and malaria.

The Fight Against Malaria

o advance MDG #6, Combat Malaria, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases, JCI formalized a partnership with the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign in 2008, which focused JCI members’ actions to raise global awareness, advocate for government funding and fundraise to support the fight against malaria through prevention. Over the next eight years, JCI raised over US $3.5 million for malaria prevention.

The JCI Active Citizen Framework

o increase the quantity of projects that result in sustainable solutions, the General Assembly of the 2010 JCI World Congress adopted the JCI Active Citizen Framework, a roadmap of actionable, results-driven steps to produce sustainable impact. This framework has been a guiding force behind grassroots projects around the world, resulting in sustainable solutions such as a medical camp in Bangladesh slums for expectant mothers lacking prenatal resources, community farming in the Dutch Caribbean, apprenticeships for unemployed youth in Europe and voter awareness campaigns across African nations.

s JCI celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the JCI Movement, the moment presented itself for the organization to reflect upon and celebrate 100 Years of Impact. Celebrations included parties, 100th Anniversary documentary screenings and a commemorative monument and unveiling at the JCI World Headquarters. JCI members across the globe participated in Project Impact 100 with the goal of empowering young people and their communities to impact the lives of 100 individuals by taking grassroots action tocreate positive change; 467,540 individuals were impacted globally.

was the first year of implementation for the 15-year global development agenda—The Global Goals for Sustainable Development. These 17 ambitious goals aim at achieving three extraordinary tasks: end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and combat climate change. During the 2015 JCI World Congress in Kanazawa, Japan, JCI leaders committed to advancing these goals by creating awareness, taking action on the goals most relevant in their communities and taking responsibility to hold JCI members as well as all sectors of society accountable to implement and monitor the progress of the Global Goals.

unior Chamber International Malaysia (JCI Malaysia) is a National Organization of the Junior Chamber International local organizations in Malaysia. JCI Malaysia was chartered in year 1976 and is affiliated to Junior Chamber International (JCI), a global leadership development organization for young active citizens aged 18 to 40, founded since 1915 in St Louis, US by Henry Giessenbier. JCI Malaysia is managed by its National Board of Directors who are all volunteers, serving based on JCI’s “One Year to Lead” values.

unior Chamber International (JCI) Johor Bahru started in 1989 when JCI Senator Andrew Tiong Hock Seng from Seduan Jaycees bumped into his friends Medhi Goh and Wong Joon Hing at Johor Bahru, whom subsequently introduced the JC’s movement to them in their office at Jalan Serampang. It had been a life changing event since then. With Medhi Goh headed as the Protem Chairman, together with Gladys Wong, Ho Pak Cherng, Michael Chu, Bernard Khit, Chew Ah San, Y.P. Tan and Pang Chong Yong, the protem committee were established. The group received unreservedly help from JCI Senator Andrew Tiong and when he had to return to Sarawak, he introduced JCI Senator Randy Loo from JCI Kuala Lumpur West (KL West) who further assisted the movement. On 9th October 1989, the Registrar of Society officially approved the chapter registration, marking the birth of Jaycees Johor Bahru. In the following year, JCI Senator Ho Pak Cherng was elected as the Chartered President. In the year 1995, President JCI Senator Gladys Wong was introduced by National President of JCI Malaysia JCI Senator Lee Kai Loong to President Wu San Ho (吳三和會長) of Newcastle Junior Chamber, Taiwan (台灣自強國際青年商會), and it was a “love at first sight”. In August 1995, a sisterhood pact was officially signed with Newcastle Junior Chamber, Taiwan (currently known as JCI New Taipei), marking another historical moment of our chapter. At the very same year, JCI Senator Dato’ Dr. Tan Hian Tsin of Crocodile International was appointed the Patron of Jaycees Johor Bahru. In the year 2007, Past President JCI Senator Law Lee Kiau was elected as the National President of JCI Malaysia, marking the born of our very first National President. In the same period, after 11 years of friendship, President JCI Senator Amy Tan led the signing of another great sisterhood pact with President Daryl Liew of JCI City Singapore during the JCIAsia PacificAnnual Conference (ASPAC), marking a huge milestone that enlarged our international presence in the region.

More than 50 years ago, the JCI Senate was established to recognize the outstanding achievements and service of JCI members worldwide. JCI Senators display determination and leadership and are encouraged to stay connected and provide support throughout the entirety of their lives. SENATORSHIP AWARD CRITERIA AWARDING POINT – 90

JCIM Senate Committee for deliberation only after an unanimous vote. No member may be considered for Senatorship unless he/she has been a member in good standing for a minimum of five (5) years and has complied with the basic minimum requirements, except in some cases as provided above, and unless he/she has earned the minimum points. Nomination to JCI for Senatorship shall be on an unanimous vote of the members present at any JCIM Board Meeting.

All nominees shall be graded by their individual LO by points to comply with the basic minimum requirements. Below are the criteria for grading the performance of the nominees. The LO shall endorse to JCIM through the LO President only the nominees who have earned a minimum of ninety (90) points. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

In some cases of exceptional international recognition in the field of Jayceeism, a member may be considered for Senatorship and the above rules waived by an unanimous vote of the JCIM Board of Directors (including the Senate Chairman).

For every year of service as Appointed LO Officer 4 points (appointed officer servicing unexpired term of resigned predecessor shall get ½ points per quarter) 5. For every year service as appointed 4 points AREA Team Director or Officer (LO President also served as Area Team Director. As such only highest points is considered) 6. For every year of service as elected or appointed 6 points National Board of Directors 7. For every year of service as appointed 4 points National Director/Presidential Special Assistant C. CHAIRMANSHIP (Maximum points that can be earned: 30 points) 1. For every LO Chairmanship with project implemented 4 points 2. For every LO Sub-committee Chairmanship with Project implemented 2 points 3. For every National Project Chairmanship with 4 points project Implemented 4. For Chairmanship of Standing National Committee for 4 points each complete year 5. For other National Committee Chairmanship 2 points
