Hello, I’m Lindy Kingdon of Kingdon Design Studio. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing, I felt the pull to follow my life-long passion for design. I felt it was important to have a deeper understanding of Interior Design and a familiarity with industry tools such as Auto CAD, Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, Hand Drafting, and Perspective Drawing, so I went back to school to pursue a degree in Interior Design and learn as much as possible. In school, I learned more about what makes interiors great. I also took the opportunity to study Sustainable Building and Design as well as Feng Shui methods of design. I love applying all of my knowledge to create beautiful, well thought out spaces that enhance the lives of my clients.

For this project, we further developed the space that we designed in our hand drafting class. We were given the footprint of the building including the location of the stairs. The first floor was to be a commercial space and the second floor a residence.
My commercial space is a coffee shop. We were to include emergency exits, accessible restrooms, and a private office. I added outdoor seating as well.
The residence was created for a fictitious client to meet his requirements. My client was a single man in his 30’s who loves modern design, collects art, and loves to host small catered parties. He wanted an urban show piece. I wanted to have an impactful entry, which was tricky because the entry is right into a narrow stair case. I focused on the first impression at the top of the stairs by including 14 ft. ceilings, a full wall of windows and a stunning black steel and marble fireplace in the living room.

The master bedroom lies mostly in the South East Sector which is the money corner. It represents self worth, wealth, abundance, and gratitude. This sector is Yin Wood. The Dragon and Snake live here. The emotions associated with this sector are criticism and compassion and the colors are wood colors, like purple and green.
A small portion of the bedroom lies in the South Sector, which is the Fame and Reputation corner. It represents transformation. This sector is Fire and the Horse lives here. The emotions associated with this sector are anxiety and joy and the colors are red and orange.
My client is already very high in wood, so I chose not to give her more of that. To help bring balance and support to my client, I gave her soothing earth tones in the paint color and wood furniture to ground her The metalic finish of the lamps, accent table, bench feet and frames and geometric patterns will add metal to support her. She has no water in her chart, so I added some watery blue toned accents. Because the South East corner represents Self Worth, I brought in an affirmation and I put a candle on the dresser in the portion of the room that falls in the South sector because it is fire. The overall feel of the bedroom will be soothing and calm to quiet her anxious and busy mind.
