ities are comprised of more than just buildings and people; the most livable and famous cities are known from their open spaces. But however, in other cities, this is often been disvalued and the necessary greenery in the urban context is not introduced; and this is what the study is all about on how to provide the essential greenery in high-densed cities. For the proposal, I introduced the use of parklets; it is basically a small park which can cater the same function of a normal park -- but in a small scale.

Parklets are first used in San Francisco, United States of America, and since then, it sprouted all over the world; mainly due to its flexibility and functionality. I then thought that it would be perfect for the cities in the Philippines to be graced by this parklets, first and foremost it would cater the necessary greenery in a very limited space in the cities, which is very relevant in the urban conditions in the Philippines, next the “look” of it would be well fit right in for the urban context in the country, because simply the idea of it on vacant parking lots, city

corners and triangles and open areas would create a great impact for the city. Its potential, considering that the city will be well evaluated and the functionality of the parklet will be well associated in it; it will definitely boost the economy and tourism. It will also have a great benefit for the people residing along the city, because they only don’t have an area to have an afternoon coffee or tea break during office hours, but they also have an area to have a quick escape on the concrete jungle the city has.

hrough site justification process, i decided to use the city of Olongapo, Zambales as the ‘Model City’ to translate the proposal. It has a great capability, because it is yet to be seized by most establishments, and it has a really defined and strategic location. The proposal is divided into two categories, the provision of parklets on strategic locations along the road corridors, and the rede-

velopment of the existing parks to maximize the use and have a continuity with the design of the parklets. These proposals were then merged by a bicycle path covering the whole span of the city. (See Fig.1d) Urban sustainability is one of the main focus of the city; translating before liabilities into assets. One good example is the use of rainwater collection ponds which were im-

plemented along the road corridords; and also acting as a safety buffer for the bicycle path and main roadway. (See Fig. 1b) Several parklet designs are provided, each of one were carefully designed considering every aspect that can affect its functionality, starting from its possible users -- to the environmental effects it can provide on to the city.

hotel feel, right off your doorsteps -this is the concept that I have made for this project. A residential villa in Sharjah was looking to have a luxurious look but cost-efficient design development which would provide the activities the family is looking for. Right after the entry gate, there is a paved way which leads directly to the area; which was graced with lush flowering plants and trees. Along the way there will be a lounge area which has the function of somewhat a little bit of privacy for the users. It has two cantilevered seating integrated to a flowering planting bed.

After goes the focal point of the area -- the swimming pool. It is surrounded by flowering plants which will definitely adds to the leisure time pleasure the family will have. It has a gazebo right along with it which could serve as a breakfast nook; or just a plain space to relax with a direct view to the pool. Also along with it right towards the house is a barbecue area which the family can spend their weekend BBQ time. Towards to the backentry will be stepping pads on grass, plus lush green planting on both sides of the footpath.

I
ts always fun to design a small - scaled residential garden; but has a big capability and functionality for the people using it. A villa in Ras Al Khaima was looking to have a garden with maximimum assets on a very limited area. Aesthetically pleasing patio garden is the design I was trying to convey, with a sole functionality of the provision of the most needed greenery in only at a small space required; for relaxation and a place to find peace & serenity. The area will be covered by mixed lush planting and flowering plants which will brighten

up the limited space. There will be also a stepping pads pathway which leads directly towards the focal point of the area; the water feature. In each sides of it will have a set of table and chairs. By symmetry and balance, I was able to have a visually pleasing patio garden, with a guaranteed ‘relaxing time’ everytime the family will spend their time at the area.
