The Seward Highway hugs the dramatic shorelines of Turnagain Arm, arguably one of the most beautiful stretches of highway in America. Each turn reveals another scenic wonder. Keep an eye out for Dall sheep up high in the cliffs along with moose, bear and eagles along the way. Later arrive in Seward and unpack for a three night stay. Overnight: Seward Meals: (B,L) Day 5: Seward - Glacier & Wildlife Cruise Following breakfast, board a Glacier and Wildlife Cruise and travel through the majestic Kenai Fjords National Park. Explore the face of a glacier and keep your eyes open for seals, sea lions, sea otters, whales, bears, eagles, and puffins throughout this half-day exploration cruise. Lunch is included on board. Monument Valley & Canyon de Chelly Featuring the Grand Canyon Desert View May 24th-26th, 2022 Tuesday-Thursday $799 Per Person (Based Upon Double Occupancy) $199 Single Supplement Day One: We’ll travel north, with a stop for lunch on self at Cameron Trading Post. A haven for travelers since 1916, this trading post boasts an expansive dining room, with a huge stone fireplace and tall picture windows, offering a view of the Little Colorado River Gorge. We’ll enjoy the ambience, along with a terrific menu that runs from burgers to salads, and includes local favorites, such as Navajo tacos and stews. Later we’ll explore the Grand Canyon via the East Entrance at Desert View—offering a unique opportunity to visit the world-famous Desert View Watchtower. Later we’ll travel to Kayenta, Arizona and check into the Kayenta Hampton Inn—home to Reuben Helflin’s Restaurant, where we’ll enjoy dinner on self.

Day Two: Breakfast is included at the hotel. After breakfast we’re off to the visitor’s center where we’ll pile into jeeps for a 2.5 hour tour—more than 30 miles of secluded back-country to discover the restricted areas of Monument Valley—a sacred homeland to the Navajo—who are the Keepers of Monument Valley. We’ll learn about the history of the Anasazi, early Native American peoples, famously known for their petroglyphs, pictographs and their spectacular cliff dwellings. We’ll visit all of the famous monoliths of Monument Valley—The Mittens, John Ford’s Point, Three Sisters, North Window, Totem Pole, Yei Bi Cheis and Artist’s Point. These are the real life backdrops for Hollywood Westerns such as Stagecoach, The Searchers, How the West was Won, and so many more! Afterwards we’ll enjoy lunch on self at the visitor’s center. Midafternoon it’s back in the Transits, and we’ll head for Canyon de Chelly—pronounced canyon duh shay, where we’ll check into the Thunderbird Lodge. Owned and operated by the Navajo Nation, the historic Thunderbird Lodge will be our cozy headquarters for the night. We’ll take some time for a refresh before heading out. We’ll visit the South Rim of Canyon de Chelly and we’ll experience the sunset highlighting Spider Rock. Later we’ll return to the hotel restaurant for dinner, on self. Thunderbird Lodge sits on the site of a trading post that was built in 1896.

The restaurant—housed in the trading post’s original building—famously serves traditional Native American dishes, along with American favorites.

Day Three: Breakfast is on self at the hotel. After breakfast jeeps will arrive to take us on a half day tour of Canyon de Chelly.

We’ll be led by our Navajo guide, who will explain the significance of man-made structures and symbols while also sharing the natural points of interest. Heavy duty six-wheel-drive touring vehicles are equipped with padded seats to provide a good experience. The tours stop frequently for photo opportunities, to visit ancient sites, Navajo farms and rock art. When the tour is over we’ll head back to the hotel for lunch, on self. After lunch it’s back in the Transits, and we’ll head for home with plenty of great stops and sightseeing along the way. This whirlwind tour includes so much—don’t miss it!

Visit Plimoth Plantation, an accurate recreation of the Pilgrim’s 1627 village, where costumed interpreters portray colony residents in this living history museum. Then celebrate the journey that brought the pilgrims to the New World as you visit the Mayflower II, this 1620 ship reproduction was recently renovated for the 400th Anniversary of the voyage. San Diego Summertime Getaway!

August 22nd-25th, 2022 Monday-Thursday $899 (Based Upon Double Occupancy) $240 (Single Supplement) Day One: We’ll leave the Valley with a stop for coffee & goodies, on our way to Yuma, Arizona, where we’ll enjoy lunch on self.

After lunch we’ll head for Alpine, California and the beautiful Viejas Casino Resort, our headquarters for the next three nights. The Viejas Resort offers three luxury hotel towers, along with six restaurants, a lush pool and lounge area, an outlet shopping center, full-service spa and so much more. We’ll be offered $10 towards any of the food outlets, plus $25 in gambling bucks for the first two nights of our stay. We’ll check into our hotel rooms, enjoy dinner on self at the restaurant of your choice and a free evening.

Day Two: We’ll enjoy breakfast on self at the hotel—an opportunity to use your $10 credit. After breakfast it’s back on the bus and we’ll head into San Diego to set sail on a 2-hour narrated harbor cruise—aboard a yacht that offers both indoor and outdoor areas. We’ll explore more than 50 storied landmarks, we’ll cruise past Seaport Village, Shelter Island, Coronado Island, Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument and more. We’ll encounter marine life and sea birds, and enjoy remarkable photo opportunities. From here we’ll head to Old Town, a state protected historic neighborhood which includes many buildings from the period of 1820-1870.

Known as the birthplace of San Diego, Old Town is home to charming shops & galleries, great little restaurants and historical sites.

We’ll enjoy lunch on self, in Old Town, before hopping aboard one of the Old Town Trolleys, an amazing way to experience San Diego’s most exciting attractions. We’ll do the loop together past Hotel del Coronado, Balboa Park, Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, the Whaley House, Star of India and so much more! Late afternoon we’ll return to our hotel to enjoy dinner on self.

Day Three: Breakfast is on self at the hotel, and we’ll again have $10 towards Viejas food outlets. After breakfast we’ll head out to explore historic Highway 101. Once the principal north/south route in California, with the construction of Interstate 5 in the 1960’s, most of Highway 101 was bypassed and barely affected by California’s explosive growth. Nowadays historic Highway 101 gives us a look back at California in its early days, and the entire 935-mile route has been given historic designation by the state of California. We’ll journey north on Highway 101, stopping to explore Del Mar, the destination of choice for movie stars and horse racing fans—offering beautiful beaches and a charming downtown. We’ll continue our journey north to Solano Beach, a small coastal community known for its unique shops and galleries. Public art is a passion in Solano Beach and we’ll enjoy the murals and architecture. From here we’ll make our way to Encinitas, known as the surf and flower capital of the world; then on to Carlsbad, home to beautiful sandy beaches and three really unique lagoons. Our next stop is Oceanside, where we’ll visit the Oceanside Pier, the longest over-the-water pier on the West Coast. We’ll enjoy a 360-degree view of the Pacific Ocean and coastline to the north and south. Along the way we’ll grab lunch on self, before arriving in La Jolla, known as “the jewel” of San Diego. Surrounded on three sides by the sea and backed by the slopes of Mt. Soledad, La Jolla’s gorgeous coastline is one of the most popular destinations in California. Later we’ll travel back to our hotel for dinner on self and a free evening.

The Durango/Silverton Railroad & Mesa Verde National Park July 26th-29th, 2022 Tuesday-Friday $899 (Double Occupancy) $199 (Single Supplement) Day One: We’ll leave the Valley with a stop for coffee & goodies, on our way to Flagstaff, where we’ll enjoy lunch on self at the restaurant of your choice. Historic and charming, Flagstaff is home to many great little restaurants. After lunch it’s back on the bus, and we’re headed into Southwest Colorado and the Four Corners Region. This is a land of unsurpassed natural beauty and incredible history. We’ll check into Sky Ute Casino Resort, our luxurious headquarters for the next three nights. Later we’ll enjoy dinner on self, with several amazing restaurants to choose from, and a free evening. Check out the indoor pool, fitness center, bowling alley, miniature golf course, or the casino if you are so inclined.

Day Two: Breakfast is on self at the hotel before jumping back the bus headed for Mesa Verde National Park. Spanish for Green Table, Mesa Verde offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from AD 600 to 1300. Today the park protects nearly 5,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States. We’ll also enjoy lunch on self at The Far View Terrace, offering a wide variety of choices along with local favorites, such as Navajo tacos. Late afternoon, we’ll return to our hotel, where we’ll enjoy a free evening and dinner on self.

Day Three: Breakfast is on self at the hotel. After breakfast, it’s back on the bus headed for Durango, just 20 minutes away. We’ll board the Durango/Silverton, a historic train on 45 miles of rails originally laid in 1882, between the railroad-built town of Durango, and the mining town of Silverton. We’ll travel along the Animas River through wilderness inaccessible by any road! We’ll arrive in Silverton, Colorado, a National Historic Landmark, with plenty of time to enjoy lunch on self, with several wonderful restaurants to choose from. We’ll also explore the downtown area, home to unique shops, art galleries and some very interesting architecture. We’ll return to Durango by motorcoach, offering an entirely different perspective of this remarkably scenic region. Early evening we’ll return to our hotel to enjoy dinner on self and all that our resort has to offer.

Petrified Forest National Park

May 6th, Friday……......…………..……$99 We’re heading into northeastern Arizona to the Petrified Forest National Park. Located in the greater Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest is contained within 150,000 acres, while the Painted Desert encompasses 1,500 square miles. They are not two separate parks and certainly not desert! The natural world of Petrified Forest is far more complex than it seems on the surface.

Located near the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau, the park is part of an amazing geological region which includes a Rainbow Forest of colorful petrified wood. Upon arrival at the park, we’ll enjoy lunch on self at the Painted Desert Diner— nothing fancy, but the affordable menu offers something for everyone. We’ll also enjoy a scenic loop tour, as we make our way back to the Valley through Arizona’s magnificent Rim Country. This fantastic tour should not be missed!

The Old Rim Road Scenic Drive May 9th, Monday……......…………..…$99 We’re off to explore Arizona’s Forest Road 300—The Old Rim Road. Our journey kicks off in Payson, where we’ll enjoy some fantastic Mexican food, on self, at El Rancho Mexican Restaurant—a great favorite, not only with the locals, but also with Arizona Highways who named El Rancho one of the top 25 restaurants in the state. Later we’ll make our way along a stretch of the Mogollan Rim—a massive wall of rock that is thousands of feet tall and hundreds of miles long—beginning at the Arizona/ New Mexico border and stretching across most of the state. Pronounced “muggy-own” by locals, the Rim offers some of the most epic views that the state of Arizona has to offer. We’ll experience scenery that is always changing, traveling through the world’s largest stand of Ponderosa pines, and later intersecting with what was once General Crook’s Trail—a historic wagon route that was used in the 1880’s to provide support for General Crook in the U.S. Army’s war against the Apaches. We’ll travel through the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, on into the Coconino National forest, and then make our way into the Pine/ Strawberry region before heading back to the Valley. This is a

The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Visited by millions of tourists annually, the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is the most accessible and offers the deepest and widest views. We’ll arrive at the Grand Canyon in time for lunch on self, with several dining options to choose from— ranging from fine dining at the El Tovar, to the Maswik Food Court—you decide. After lunch we’ll explore spectacular views and other points of interest. This is a remarkable one-day tour, leaving a little earlier and arriving home a little later, but well worth it!

This breathtaking 25 mile paved road takes us along one of Arizona’s most scenic byways, and winds us up a trail that ascends 9,157 feet through the rugged Santa Catalina Mountains into a much cooler climate. Along the way there are many pull-off points for photo opportunities, or just to enjoy the magnificent landscape. Nestled into the rocky peak of Mount Lemmon sits the tiny town of Summerhaven, home to the Iron Door Restaurant, where we’ll enjoy lunch on self. Jerome to Prescott Scenic Drive & High Tea May 22nd, Sunday………………….…$135 Located near the top of Cleopatra Hill between Prescott and Flagstaff, sits the historic mining town of Jerome, once known as the “Wickedest Town in the West.” What began as a copper mining camp quickly became the fourth largest city in Arizona, with a population of around 15,000 in the 1920’s. With the closure of the mines in 1953, Jerome became a ghost town and was declared a National Historic District by the federal government. Today Jerome is the largest ghost town in the nation, a thriving artists hub, home to charming shops, galleries, and wine tasting rooms. We’ll take some time to stroll the streets of Jerome before setting off on the ride to Prescott, on a byway that famously offers panoramas that stretch all the way to the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff—while offering views of the Verde River Valley and the red rocks of Sedona below. Midafternoon we’ll arrive at the Hassayampa Inn in the heart of Prescott’s Historic District. The Randall House & Arizona’s Rim Country June 1st, Wednesday………………..…$99 Known today for its charm and scratch cooking, famous for its fresh baked breads and pastries, the Randall House began as a two-room log cabin that still stands as its entryway. Using logs cut in Pine, Arizona, insulated with adobe, the original home was built in the winter of 1881 by Alfred Jason Randall, while he and his family slept in a covered wagon box, and he established his blacksmith shop. As the years went on rooms were added and improvements were made, and the Randall House went on to become the ranch headquarters for rancher George Walter Randall, the grandson of Alfred Jason Randall. We’ll enjoy lunch on self at the Randall House where the affordable menu runs from gourmet burgers and deli sandwiches, to specialty salads, quiche and more. Save room for dessert, because the Randall House is most famous for their out-of-this-world pies! The Riordan Mansion

June 8th, Wednesday…………….…...$111 Timothy and Michael Riordan were prominent Flagstaff businessmen, pioneers who developed a successful logging business—The Arizona Lumber and Timber Company. The two brothers were known for their contributions which were essential to the development of the social and economic structure of Flagstaff and Northern Arizona. Tim and Mike married the Metz sisters, Caroline and Elizabeth. The women were cousins of the Babbitt brothers, another influential Flagstaff family. Tim and Caroline had two daughters; Mike and Elizabeth had six children. The two close-knit families built a large mansion comprised of two separate homes connected by a common area known as the billiard room. Seen by guided tour only, the interiors of the Riordan family homes look essentially as they did in 1904. The homes showcase all original family belongings including fine examples of early Stickley furniture. The duplex-style Riordan Mansion remains one of the finest examples of American Arts and Crafts-style architecture open to the public today.

Designed by the architect of the impressive El Tovar Hotel at the Grand Canyon, Charles Whittlesey, the homes were built in 1904 with indoor plumbing, hot and cold running water, central heat, and electric lights, reflecting the most modern technology and design of the time. We’ll enjoy a one-hour tour of the mansion before heading downtown for lunch on self at the restaurant of your choice, in famously foodie Flagstaff, and an exploration of this historic region. Day 3 - CHARLESTON - BEAUFORT - SAVANNAH This morning visit one of the most photographed plantations in America, Boone Hall Plantation, a 738-acre estate once the center of a cotton plantation and still a working farm. The half mile impressive entry is lined with Oak Trees and dotted with camellias and azaleas. Next travel along South Carolina’s scenic coastal route to the charming town of Beaufort, which has retained much of its pre-Civil War character. Enjoy a Beaufort Horse Drawn Carriage Tour to learn about the local Civil War History and see Antebellum & Victorian Architecture. Then travel to the fascinating city of Savannah, America’s first planned city, whose entire restored center - more than 1,000 buildings - is a registered National Historic Landmark. Tonight enjoy a southern dining experience at the historic Pirates’ House Restaurant, which has been welcoming seafarers and visitors since 1753. 4th of July in Silver City, New Mexico Featuring the Trail of the Mountain Spirits

July 3rd-5th, 2022 Sunday-Tuesday $499 Per Person (Based Upon Double Occupancy) $75 Single Supplement Day One: We’re traveling the Old West Highway, on our way to Silver City in southwestern New Mexico, situated just east of the Continental Divide. This boyhood town of Billy the Kid is rich with Old West Heritage, a vibrant arts community, and incredible scenery. Along the way we’ll enjoy several stops, including one for lunch on self, in a region that is famously home to some of the most delicious Mexican food in the country. We’ll check into our hotel and after a refresh and our own Happy Hour, head out to enjoy a Welcome Dinner and a glass of wine, included.

Day Two: Breakfast is included, at the hotel, then we’re off to enjoy a classic 4th of July parade winding through downtown Silver City, followed by live music and food vendor’s booths at charming Gough Park. Midmorning we’ll be back in the Transits to explore the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway. We’ll travel through the beautiful Mimbres Valley, into San Lorenzo, a quiet village and home to the historic San Lorenzo church, said to be the site of an actual miracle. Further into the Mimbres Valley, we’ll take the cut-off to beautiful Bear Canyon Lake and head for the famous Gila Cliff Dwellings. For thousands of years nomadic people used the caves of the Gila River as temporary shelter. By the late 1200’s, people of the Mogollan Culture settled into this region, building rooms in the cliff dwellings for a brief period of about 20 years, then moving on. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, included, at the Gila Cliff Dwellings trailhead, a gorgeous setting overlooking the ruins. If you’re feeling ambitious, a 2 minute walk will take you to a wall of pictographs, a 5 minute walk will take you to a three-room dwelling, and an uphill climb that is equivalent to 18 flights of stairs will take you into the Gila Cliff Dwellings. After lunch, we’ll continue past lush green fields and grazing horses, with plenty of scenic stops along the way to enjoy the butterflies, 337 different species of birds, and abundant wild flowers. We’ll stop at Lake Roberts, where it is very common to find whole herds of deer grazing along the road. From here we’ll head for the old mining community of Pinos Altos, where gold was discovered in 1860 and many of the buildings from that era are still standing. Continuing on the Trail of the Mountain Spirits, we’ll stop at an overlook to explore a panoramic view of the Chino mine, one of the largest open pit copper mines in the world. From here we’ll head back into Silver City for a refresh at our hotel, then it’s downtown for dinner on self and a possible fireworks display—weather permitting!

Day Three: We’ll enjoy breakfast, included at the hotel. After breakfast, it’s bags out, and we’re off to explore Catwalk Recreation Area, a half-mile-long bridge dramatically suspended along a beautiful canyon, over a cool creek that borders the Gila Wilderness. The Catwalk follows the path of the pipeline built in the 1890’s to deliver water to the mining town of Graham.

Workmen had to enter the canyon by crawling atop the narrow pipeline named the “Catwalk.” In the 1930’s the Civilian Conservation Corps rebuilt the Catwalk. Metal walkways were bolted to the narrow canyon walls where there was no room to cut a trail, creating an easy walkway that is universally accessible for all visitors. Day 2 - PHILADELPHIA SIGHTSEEING Today enjoy a Philadelphia City Tour to see the Most Historic Square Mile in America featuring Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the National Constitution Center. Visit Independence Hall, the site where the United States Constitution was debated and adopted & the setting for the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence. Later visit the National Constitution Center, the only museum dedicated to the United States Constitution. This evening enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant in Philadelphia. (B,D) Day 3 - THE POCONOS - JIM THORPE - VALLEY FORGE This morning travel north through scenic Pennsylvania farmlands and into the Lehigh River Valley before heading into the forested Pocono Mountains referred to as The Poconos. Visit the historic Victorian town named Jim Thorpe after the Native American star athlete of the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. The town is referred to as the ‘Switzerland of the Americas’ for its picturesque mountain scenery and architecture. Enjoy time at leisure for lunch and shopping in the beautifully restored 19th century downtown. Later travel to Valley Forge & tour Valley Forge National Historical Park which preserves our nation’s history and tells the story of the Continental Army during the winter of 1777-78. On December 19, 1777, George Washington led a weary Continental Army into Valley Forge. For the next six months, the divided groups of militiamen came together to form a true army, one capable of taking the fight to their British foes. See the soldier huts built by the militiamen and the original house that was once General Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge (referred to as the Pentagon of the Revolution). (B) Day 4 - BRANDYWINE VALLEY - NEMOURS MANSION - LONGWOOD GARDENS Today enjoy a visit to two fantastic DuPont mansions, both elegant estates in their own way. Drive south into Delaware to tour the opulent Nemours Mansion & Gardens, the former estate of Alfred DuPont. Using his vast fortune from inventing smokeless gunpowder, Alfred built this classical French Chateau in 1910 and filled the 105 rooms with antiques, art and tapestries from the 1700s. Later tour beautiful Longwood Gardens, the former estate of Pierre DuPont who purchased the property to save the arboretum from being sold for lumber in 1906 and made it his private estate into the 1930s. He spared no expense in adding extensively to the property. Today the complex is one of the premier botanical gardens in the US and consists of 1,100 acres of gardens, woodlands and meadows in the Brandywine Valley. (B)

Day 5 - HERSHEY - AMISH COUNTRY - AMISH DINNER This morning travel west through the beautiful countryside & arrive in Hershey, the town chocolate built. Enjoy a tour Hershey’s Chocolate World. Learn about and smell the delicious transformation from tropical rainforest cocoa bean to Hershey’s famous chocolate. Some chocolate samples will help you decide which Hershey’s goods to bring home in addition to your classic favorites.

This afternoon step back in time as you travel into the tranquil heart of Pennsylvania Amish Country where the horse & buggy remains the primary form of transportation and windmills dot the landscape. The Pennsylvania Amish of Lancaster County are America’s oldest Amish settlement, and where thousands still live a centuries-old ‘Plain’ lifestyle. Visit an Amish Farm & House to learn about their faith, culture, distinctive dress and way of life that forbids the use of electricity or telephones in the home.
