Bast: Bay Area Solar Transit-Hub / Public Space
This thesis is a proposal for a new zero energy ferry transit-hub in Redwood City. The architecture provides an access point for the people to the bay as well as bringing the South Bay and the broader Bay Area neighborhoods closer through the closely linked ferry services delivered. A highly efficient ferry service would ultimately alleviate the continually worsening Bay Area traffic congestion problem. Sustainability is the main priority for BAST. BAST takes net-zero energy from the grid by harvesting solar energy through the photovoltaic arrays on the building’s roof and using it to operate its electric ferry fleet. The building uses a set of floating pontoon foundations as a solution to the threat of increasing flooding events as well as the sea level rise.

Esprit Park Natatorium / Public Space
San Francisco’s Park and Recreation Department currently has nine public pools in various neighborhoods throughout the city. This project proposes a tenth facility. The primary function of Esprit Park Natatorium is to provide a place to swim. Swimming takes the form of play, sports, adventure, therapy and relaxation. The facility provides for these uses with a lap pool, a recreational pool and hot pools. These uses occur within and outside the facility.

San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art / Museum
San Francisco Museum of Contemporary Art is intended to complement the city’s cultural infrastructure by providing a new forum for presenting contemporary art in a broad international context. The city is looking for a museum which can be a premiere destination for the city residents of all ages and a must-see destination for foreigners. Its unique location would establish a year-round focus of culture and entertainment for city residents as well as visitors. The proposal for SF Moca challenges the museum typology by incorporating both large void and small, narrow spaces. By playing with the contrast of high ceiling voids vs small narrow spaces, the museum itself offers visitors a unique experience in addition to the various interesting exhibitions in it.

Billboard Greenhouse / Residential
The Billboard Greenhouse project started by developing a single housing module that fits within the space of a billboard then multiples of a module were developed for a senior housing collective. The proposed housing collective is designed for a group of senior citizens who lead their urban life through a communal lifestyle and collective urban farming. The main greenhouse building is linear and has a transparent facade just as any greenhouse would have. Billboard Greenhouse is intended to draw attention and send a message to the viewers just like a billboard. It aims to highlight how a sustainable lifestyle for seniors can be successfully implemented.

Pier 70 Promenade / Public Multi-use Space
Film and architecture/ film as architecture The design process began by reviewing the 1962 film La Jetée by Chris Marker. Therein lies the foundation for the studio. In La Jetée, we extract forms of content through structure, organization, cinematic space, time/ sequence and contrast, all of which can be narratives for architecture. The Project’s three conceptual elements, [Frame, Rhythm, folding] come from a critical film study of ‘La Jetee’. The physical history of Pier 70 gives the project material & structural organization. The poetic quality of the pier’s decay establishes a point of departure for its future form. The site is read as a changing ground. By tracing the ‘fragments’ and footprint of Pier 70, a map of changes begins to emerge.

Morphological Shells/ Pavilion
Using a selection of digital methods an installation-scale design intervention was developed and the final outcome is to create a high quality architectural space on a chosen location within AAU Brannan Campus building. First, a shell structure and its characteristics such as curvature, aspect ratio, number of vaults, etc were examined. A series of diagrams were produced and they informed us how changing that aspect creates different space within. The final shell structure is designed for the atrium space in the building where frequent presentations and lectures take place. The design of the shell structure creates a dynamic movement to the space while functioning as a visual screen and noise management solution.

Pavilion for Inside Out/ Permanent Pavilion for Art Installation
The pavilion is designed to permanently house the sculptural work of Richard Serra, “Inside Out“. The pavilion is to be part of Inhotim, the largest foundation for contemporary art in Brazil. Inhotim is also the largest outdoor art center in Latin America and houses a large collection of contemporary art in numerous pavilions scattered around the center’s lush green land.

The drawings were produced of a wall system for a three-story building with a flat roof and parapet. The wall is the south facing street façade of a small building on a typical San Francisco mid-block lot, 25’ wide with adjacent buildings left and right abutting the building. The façade includes; an entry door with a canopy, balcony with guardrails, rainwater control and exterior finish materials.
