Become a part of our family
I became involved with Creative Clay in 2005, working as a community artist paired with a member artist in the Artlink program. I did this for three years, and in the process fell in love with Creative Clay and its members. I decided that I wanted to work with more than one member artist, so stayed on as a volunteer. As a mixed media artist, I'm familiar with many materials, so at first assisted with a bit of everything. Three years ago, inspired by Chris C.’s incredible stitched images, I decided to try some stitching with some of the others, just as a two-month holiday project. We've never stopped! The member artists loved the process, that I call "drawing with thread,” so much that we now have a weekly sewing circle, which is as much a social bonding and relaxation time as it is about product. The stitching process has been magical. I've seen it comfort the unhappy, calm the restless, and bring smiles and voice to the silent. I am so grateful that Creative Clay exists, bringing the joy of expression through art to all.
Creative Clay’s volunteers are an essential part of our daily operations. We have volunteers who help with our Artworks Retail Shop, as well as our Good Folk Gallery, Transition Class, Community Arts Classes, and Summer Camp and Summer Studios. good folk gallery a folk art collector’s paradise
Event & Exhibition Highlights The Good Folk Gallery hosts bi-monthly exhibitions of artwork from some of the finest folk artists of the Southeast, working in all media. Creative Clay artists exhibit in our Good Folk Gallery as well as venues throughout the Tampa Bay region. The Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg Museum of History, St. Petersburg Opera, The Elliott Gallery at Eckerd College, Mahaffey Theater and The Museum of Fine Arts Store are a few examples. Creative Clay’s Folk Art collections are purchased and loaned and displayed in businesses, such as the Postcard Inn, the Inn on the Beach, City Hall and private homes.
