From Bogota to the

How four childhood friends turned their passion into a worldwide phenomenon:

Before sold-out arenas and global tours, before their music became the soundtrack to heartbreaks and road trips, Morat was just a group of kids in Bogotá with big dreams and a garage full of instruments.

The story of Morat begins in Colombia’s capital, where four school friends—Juan Pablo Isaza, Juan Pablo Villamil, Simón Vargas, and later, Martín Vargas—bonded over a shared love for songwriting and folk-pop. They spent their teenage years jamming in a small garage, experimenting with melodies, and building the foundation of what would become one of Latin America’s most beloved band.

At first, they called themselves Malta. But when they decided to take their music seriously, they rebranded as Morat—a name that pays tribute to the house where they first practiced together. “It was more than just a place,” Villamil once said in an interview. “It was where our sound was born.”

Their big break came in 2015, when they collaborated with Paulina Rubio on the hit Mi Nuevo Vicio. The song rocketed to the top of the charts in Spain, introducing Morat to an international audience. That same year, they released their debut single Cómo Te Atreves, which quickly became a viral anthem of heartbreak and rebellion, earning them Latin Grammy nominations and cementing their name across Latin America and Spain.

the World:Morat

But Morat is more than just catchy choruses and poetic lyrics. Their music blends acoustic instruments, honest storytelling, and pop-folk rhythms with a distinctive Colombian touch. Every album—Sobre El Amor y Sus Efectos Secundarios, Balas Perdidas, ¿A Dónde Vamos?, and Si Ayer Fuera Hoy—shows their evolution, both musically and emotionally.

What sets Morat apart is their authenticity. They write their own songs. They tell real stories. And they’ve never forgotten where they came from. Despite their global fame, the band has remained grounded—often referencing Bogotá, their fans, and their journey in interviews and songs.

Now, as they embark on their 2025 world tour, Morat continues to prove that passion, friendship, and staying true to your roots can take you further than you ever imagined. What started as a school project is now a voice for millions—one song, one show, one heartfelt lyric at a time.

Exclusive Interview: Morat Kicks Off Their Most Ambitious World Tour Yet

From Bogotá to the world. With sold-out arenas across Latin America, Europe, and now North America, Morat is proving that heartfelt lyrics and infectious melodies can transcend borders. We caught up with Juan Pablo Isaza, Juan Pablo Villamil, Simón Vargas, and Martín Vargas just days before they took the stage in Madrid to kick off their “De Todos los Colores” world tour.

Q: This tour is called “De Todos los Colores.” What does that title mean to you as a band?

Isaza: It’s about diversity—musical, emotional, and cultural. The name reflects the range of feelings in the songs we’re performing, and the different places and people we’re getting to meet. We wanted every show to feel like a celebration of how music connects us, no matter where we come from.

Q: How does this tour compare to your past tours?

Villamil: It’s our biggest one yet—bigger venues, more cities, and a much more complex production. We’re playing in countries we’ve never visited before, like Australia and Japan. The setlist is also much longer, with new arrangements and visuals we’ve never used before.

Q: Can you give us a peek into the creative process behind preparing for a world tour?

Simón: A lot of late nights and voice memos, honestly. (laughs) We always try to reinvent ourselves on stage. We worked closely with a lighting designer and creative director to make sure every song has its own visual identity. Our fans are incredibly passionate, so we wanted to deliver a concert that feels more like a journey than just a show.

Q: What’s been the most emotional moment on tour so far?

Martín: In Mexico City, there was this moment during “Besos en Guerra” where the entire stadium sang every word louder than us. We just stopped playing and let them take over. That kind of energy gives you goosebumps. You realize your songs don’t just belong to you anymore—they belong to the people.

Q: What can fans expect from your show this year?

Villamil: A lot of surprises! We’re playing classics, deep cuts, and of course, songs from our newest album. There’s also a part of the show where we go acoustic and really connect with the crowd. And… we might even invite a few surprise guests in certain cities.

Q: Any message to your fans reading this?

Isaza: Just thank you. Without your support, we wouldn’t be here. Every stream, every message, every person singing in the crowd—it means everything. We can’t wait to see you on the road. Let’s make memories de todos los colores.
