The object of this project was to create a performative panel in a local wetland ecology. My panel uses high tech and low tech methods (titanium dioxide-infused concrete and reeds) to provide natural ventilation, purify the air, and create light and shadow effects.

ECOLOGY PROPOSAL
The project brief had us examine an ecology as defined by Reyner Banham in his 1971 book on the city of Los Angeles — Surfurbia, Foothills, Plains of Id, or Autopia — and imagine it in the superfuture. The site analysis and square mile proposal was done in a small group, then divided into individual sector proposals.

The brief demanded the design of a branch library based on site study and a “wildcard program”. Features of the project include use of Grasshopper for shelled facade generation and a “playful industrial” style to match the fabrication lab and children’s maker space.
