THE POWER OF BEAUTY CHANGES THE WORLD 2017 Mrs. Canada Globe Pageant is a fundraiser for the SOFIA House. The SOFIA House is a second stage housing facility that provides safe housing and support for families trying to escape violent homes. Through their on-site counseling services and housing capabilities they live the meaning of SOFIA: Support of Families in Affliction. The pageant will be a dazzling, stylish and sophisticated evening, Mrs. Canada Globe unites philanthropists and influencers from across the country to celebrate the diversity and beauty of married women as we crown Canada’s newest Mrs. Canada Globe 2017.

I am extremely grateful and truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to not only represent this City of Regina, this province of Saskatchewan but the women of this Country Canada. One does not know what to expect with such a title. I believe that you are given two choices when the crown is placed on your head. You can be content being the face of Mrs. Canada Globe or you can lead from where you stand and truly make a difference in the lives of so many around you. The Mrs. Canada Globe title has given me the platform to which I could use my voice to support the Charities I believe in. In the last year I have attended 14 charity events and organized 8 others on my own. The one I am most proud of is The Lady in Red gala. We just held our second annual event two weeks ago at the DoubleTree by Hilton and in these two years we have raised over 40 thousand dollars for the SOFIA House women’s shelter. I believe the title has given me strength as a women and enormous confidence as a leader. It has taught me much about the friendships and family around me. My son Naythan, I thank him so much for his love and understanding. I have had so much support from my community. I try at every opportunity to tell them all how much I have appreciated their love, hard work and endless encouragement without all of these individuals my journey would have been less satisfying. My trip to Hainan China was one I will remember for the rest of my life. My Mrs. Globe sisters from around the world, these kind, generous and beautiful women will forever hold a place in my heart. They amaze me with their grace and magic. To my National Director, Kimberly Castle, I thank you for your support and direction. To the CEO of Mrs. Globe Dr. Traci Kemble, you truly are an inspiration. Your organization has lit a flame in me that will burn for many years to come. I will continue to hold the title of Mrs. Canada Globe 2016 proud. Someone once said to me, do you really think one person can make a difference? After this year my answer is yes! At SOFIA House we strive to provide comprehensive services to families who have experienced domestic violence. Our first priority is to provide a safe environment through 10 furnished apartments equipped with basic essentials for everyday living. We employ maintenance support to keep the apartments clean and in good condition as well as collect a reserve of donations in-kind to restock an apartment or for families who have completed their stay. Included in the housing program is the security provided at SOFIA House. We work diligently at keeping the location confidential and have security cameras for safety. We also employ a House Coordinator who works during evenings and weekends which is reported to give the women a sense of comfort. In addition to safety, we provide supportive counseling ser vices. Our program is a combination of individual and group counseling for all family members. Our Family Support Shelter Workers connect families with resources in the community and provide advocacy and support with legal, medical and financial matters. Our In-house programming is designed to address the many emotional challenges families endure with a crisis that causes a sudden change. At SOFIA House we focus on building self esteem and empowering the women to use their coping skills and incorporate them into leadership skills. Our programming is delivered through group process facilitated by our counselors. The children’s programming is also designed with age appropriate materials and is presented by a Children’s Program counselor and supported by our devoted volunteers.
At SOFIA House we believe that families need time to recover from the trauma of domestic violence. During that time of recovery we try to provide individual, group and community support. This combination allows families to recover at their speed and ability. The flexibility of Second Stage Sheltering can provide the time and support needed to develop skills which lead to the development of the courage to change.
