THE KIMBALL UNION ALMA MATER

Come you friends of Kimball Union, now our song we raise

For our school upon the hilltop, sing a song of praise.

Kimball Union, Alma Mater hear us as we sing

Words of love and fond devotion which to thee we bring.

Here we forge the bonds of friendship deep within our hearts

And those ties that we have formed here, may they ne’er depart.

Kimball Union, Alma Mater hear us as we sing

Words of love and fond devotion which to thee we bring.

May the name of Kimball Union where so e’re we be

Always bring us back in fancy, dearest School to thee.

Kimball Union, Alma Mater hear us as we sing

Words of love and fond devotion which to thee we bring. – Text by Floyd E. Jarvis, KUA Faculty 1932-1945

AWARDS

Henry Mann Silver Awards

Henry Mann Silver, graduate of the class of 1867 and donor of the Silver Gymnasium, established a prize to be awarded each year for the students who best exemplify the ideal of sound mind in a sound body. The faculty elects three seniors to receive the Henry Mann Silver Award each year.

The Class of 1895 Award

The class of 1895 at the Academy, the 77th graduating class, instituted an award to be given to a member of the Senior class for the attainment of high scholastic merit together with high conduct of citizenship.

The Royal Burnham Townsend Award

Mr. and Mrs. Townsend gave this award in memory of their son, Class of 1912, who died while a student at the Academy. A memorial window in the former Pope Chapel with the inscription “Remember the Lilies of the Field” also commemorates this young man. The Townsend award is given each year to a senior who is most deserving because of courtesy of conduct and cleanliness of life.

The Porter Award

The Porter Award is given to that member of the Senior Class who, after the fashion of Mr. and Mrs. Porter who were long-standing members of the faculty at the Academy, has unselfishly given of time and effort to the benefit of Kimball Union Academy.

The Mikula Award

The Mikula Award was established in 1987 by Allan Munro ’55, in honor of the efforts and legacy of Headmaster Emeritus Thomas Mikula H’89, who served the Academy from 1974-1989. Among his many accomplishments and contributions to the Academy, Mr. Mikula was instrumental, as a past fellow of Dartmouth College’s Tucker Foundation and as program director of A Better Chance (ABC) Program, in bringing diverse students to Kimball Union through ABC and continuing to provide guidance and support for students through college and beyond. Selection for this award is made by the Head of School.

The Charles Alden Tracy Award

This is the Academy’s highest award and goes, by vote of the faculty, to the graduating senior whose character, scholarship, and citizenship best represent the ideals of the Academy.

Class of 1920 Award

The Class of 1920 Award is given to a senior who, in the opinion of the senior class, best represents them and the values of the Academy.
