“Blessed is the one... whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night.” — Psalm 1:1-2, NIV
SERVING PEOPLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CALLING Sometimes God prepares us for our calling in ways we don’t recognize until years later. An architecture degree. Fifteen years as a missionary. Renovating homes. Selling real estate. At first glance, David Lewis’s career path may seem like a collection of unrelated chapters. In reality, every season has been preparing him for the same mission: loving people well and pointing them toward something greater than themselves. For David, real estate is another opportunity to serve. “I don’t think serving people is my job,” David says. “Serving people is my calling. Real estate simply runs alongside that calling.” That conviction has shaped every decision David has made, from leaving his hometown outside Chicago to pursuing architecture in Colorado, stepping into full-time ministry, and eventually helping families navigate one of life’s biggest milestones, finding a place to call home.
A Foundation Built on Faith David grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, before moving to Colorado in 1993 to attend the University of Colorado
Boulder, where he earned a degree in architecture. Fascinated by how homes were designed and how thoughtful spaces could improve the way people lived, he spent several years working as an architect after graduation.
you’re going to become for the next 60,” he explains. “Students leave home, they’re figuring out who they are socially and professionally, but it’s just as important that they have an outlet for their spiritual life.”
Then God began redirecting his path. Alongside his wife, Emily, David joined Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), believing it might be a short chapter in their lives.
Helping young adults discover a relationship with Christ became one of the greatest privileges of his life.
“We thought we’d do it for a couple of years,” he recalls. “We never stopped feeling the call.” Those “couple of years” turned into 15. Together they ministered to college students at CU Boulder before spending a year in Spain helping launch a new ministry. They later returned to Colorado, where David coached and supported ministry teams throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and New Mexico. David knows the importance of college for young adults and he doesn’t take ministering to them lightly. “Those four or five years shape who
Rooted in God’s Word Although David eventually transitioned into business, his daily priorities have never changed. One passage of Scripture has become a lifelong anchor. Psalm 1 reminds believers to delight in God’s Word and meditate on it day and night. Rather than rushing through his daily Bible reading, David intentionally carries one verse or one truth with him throughout the day, allowing it to shape his thoughts, conversations, and decisions. “Whatever I’m reading that day, I try to take one verse or one thought with me,” he says. “It’s about making God’s Word the focus of your life.” He is a man of faith, including being one of the founding members of Flatirons
Community Church. “We’ve been going there for 30 years now,” reflects David. “When we started going there, there were 50 people and now it’s over 30,000.” David led the college group, the first couples’ group, and he and his wife were the first missionaries in the church. “Now we just attend,” he says. “The Lord has blessed us.”
Ministry Didn’t End. It Changed. David earned his real estate license in 2020 while working for a local home builder. Initially, the decision was practical. He and a friend had been renovating and flipping homes, and obtaining a license simply made good business sense. But as he began working with buyers and sellers, something unexpected happened. He realized ministry hadn’t ended. It had simply taken on a different form. “I love real estate because it’s so peopleoriented,” David says. “A lot of REALTORS® focus on the transaction. My heart has always been for the people.” Before transitioning into full-time production, David also led a real estate team from 2023 through 2025. During that time, the team ranked
No. 1 in their brokerage for two to three consecutive years. Yet what he remembers most isn’t the production numbers. It’s the opportunity to invest in the people on his team. “I loved leading the team because it gave me the opportunity to pour into our agents’ lives,” he says. “Real estate can easily consume your life if you let it. I wanted to help them learn the balance between building a successful business and building a strong family. I wanted them to be successful in both.” For David, leading agents felt remarkably similar to leading students in ministry. Success was measured by helping others grow, both professionally and personally. That’s how he serves his clients today. He knows a home represents much more than square footage or curb appeal. It’s where children will take their first steps, families will gather around dinner tables, birthdays will be celebrated, neighbors will become lifelong friends, and faith will be lived out day after day. “You’re not just helping someone buy a house,” David says. “You’re helping them find the place where they’re going to build their lives.”
PROOF
His years in ministry naturally influence the way he serves clients today. “I care about people as whole people,” he explains. “I care about their spiritual well-being. I care about their family. I care about what’s happening in their lives.”
Success Begins at Home This year David and Emily celebrate 28 years of marriage, a milestone he describes as one of God’s greatest blessings. Together they have raised three children who continue to make them proud. Their oldest son, Jackson, is pursuing a career as a golf professional. Their middle son plays Division I football at Lindenwood University in Missouri. Their daughter is entering her senior year at Monarch High School. “We couldn’t ask for more,” David says. “They love the Lord, and they’re making good choices.” Despite the demands of real estate, David works hard to protect family time. His mornings begin with exercise before heading to the office around 8 a.m. Evenings are intentionally
When I’m home, I want to be home.” That balance has allowed him to succeed professionally without losing sight of what matters most.
What’s Next?
David’s goal for the future is simple. “I want to become the go-to person in my town,” he says. “Not because I want to be the biggest REALTOR® in Colorado, but because I want to help as many people as possible.” He dreams of being known throughout Superior, Boulder County, and northwest Denver as someone who genuinely cares. For David, repeat clients and referrals are evidence that people felt seen, valued, and cared for.

“I learned during ministry that you have to be purposeful,” he says. “When I’m working, I’m working.
“If clients tell their friends and family to call me,” he says, “that’s one of the greatest compliments I can receive.” Because in the end, David believes success is measured by faithfulness. “Being a good husband and father is a calling. Serving people is a calling.” Whether he’s opening Scripture each morning, walking through a home with first-time buyers, or encouraging someone facing a difficult season, David simply wants people to know one thing: He was there for them. And perhaps that’s exactly how God intended every chapter of his story to fit together.
