Nik Hall - Local Guide
The Killarney man who tells Google Maps where to go
Within an hour of Killarney’s latest tourist attraction’s public unveiling, it will be uploaded to Google Maps. Whatever it is – a new restaurant, a newly unveiled monument – once it’s up-and-running and open to the public it will appear on Google Maps for locals and tourists to see. It is all possible thanks to local photographer and guide Nik Hall. The essence of his work is to capture the true beauty that surrounds Killarney.

MAP MAN: New and existing attractions and businesses are uploaded to Google Maps by Nik Hall so locals and tourists know where to go and how to get there.

Town Highlights

The Killarney-based Dorset man is a Level 8 Local Guide with Google Maps and his speciality is Killarney and its surroundings. To achieve Level 8 he has posted over 8,500 photos and reviews on Google Maps, ensuring the website is right up to date, and presenting Killarney and its regions to millions of potential viewers worldwide. Nik moved to Killarney 21 years ago with his wife, Killarney native Sandra. For years he has risen early to capture the early dawn over some of Killarney’s most iconic buildings, or stayed out late at night, using long shutter speeds and a lot of patience. Two years ago Nik launched his first book, ‘Beautiful Killarney: A Walk Through the National Park’. “I love the place and the people,’ Nik says. “Everywhere you go in Killarney there’s natural beauty. It’s a photographer’s paradise and it never looks the same twice. I’m blessed to be here.” When he’s not out with his camera, Nik can be seen selling his images at the Old Market Flea during the summer months.
