BYD to become major player in Irish market

Chinese car manufacturer BYD (Build Your Dreams) has entered the Irish market.

BYD – said to be the biggest manufacturer of electrified vehicles – has recently appointed Motor Distributors Ltd (MDL) as its Irish franchisee. While Motor Distributors Ltd has not yet announced a dealer network, the Dublin-based company already imports and distributes Mercedes Benz cars in to Ireland.

"We look forward to introducing BYD vehicles to Irish motorists and to estab- lishing BYD as a major player in the Irish market," said Paddy Finnegan, MDL chief executive.

"Whilst complementing the long-standing distribution interests we currently have, this new opportunity to represent BYD and introduce their vehicles to Irish motorists is one of great importance to MDL by enabling us to re-establish a strong presence in the volume-selling segment of the Irish market."

BYD’s Atto 3 mid-sized salon should be on Irish – and even Kerry roads – within weeks.
