WELCOME Welcome to August Home & Living. We hope all our readers are keeping well during these very unusual times.

During the week on a trip to the supermarket a lovely lady complemented my outfit, and later on I got talking to the nicest lady outside our offices - as I was putting on my mask she smiled and we had a friendly word. All this made me realise how a kind word can change your day for the better. We are all going through a crazy time and it’s affecting all of us differently, so maybe we could all pass on a kind word, and make someone’s day a little brighter.

trends 2020 The bedroom is one of the most important spaces in the home but often neglected.

We spend at least seven to eight hours a day there (hopefully). And sleep is essential to our wellbeing. While most of us don’t think of bedrooms as functional spaces, it’s essential to design a room that invokes a feeling of calm and peace. Storage is also key bedroom clutter does not lend to a stress free sleep. We need a space to escape to and whether that's all neutral or bold colours is all about your taste for this personal space.

B RIGHT MONOCHROMATICS While previous bedroom design trends have favoured soft and subtle colours, bold hues such as cobalt blue, forest green and ochre yellow are all set to be big throughout 2020.

While interior design has often been seen as traditional vs contemporary, this new 2020 design trend sees the mishmash of both. Bring this into the bedroom by incorporating new furnishings or sleek surfaces with your favourite things that you’ve collected over the years, think souvenirs from holidays, vintage style bed frames, or ornate mirrors to create a sense of nostalgia.

E ARTHY SCHEME Creating spaces to improve mental health is at the forefront of 2020 bedroom design trends, This can be seen in trends such as bringing in plants, using natural linen and washed cotton bedding and wool throws, stocking up on home comforts and using soft comforting colours.

W ICKER FURNITURE In tone with the use of an earthy colour palette and natural materials, wicker or rattan furniture is seeing a big comeback this year. Incorporate this with quirky bedside tables or even in your bedroom lighting. A simple way to incorporate this design trend is wicker storage baskets add practicality while implementing this design trend.

N ATURE Whether its from the addition of plants, patterned wallpaper with birds or animals, you'll start to see more natural elements in bedrooms over the coming year. Paired with wooden furniture and natural rugs such as sisal or jute.

B OHEMIAN STYLE Bohemian style is one that means different things to different people. Some tend to believe that boho style is all about bright prints, eclectic blend of pattern and an overload of color. Others gravitate to the neutral backdrop and the sense of relaxing calm it brings. If you love both the ideas and want a mix of the cheerful pattern and a rejuvenating

atmosphere in the bedroom, then try out boho-chic this spring.

F UN HEADBORDS This year, it's all about fun headboards.

Design trends are changing from square and angular shapes to more curves and softer forms. We are seeing more patterns and bold colour, especially in a contrasting headboard fabric and wallpaper, The moment for simplicity in a bedroom has been done, and people are now wanting to see a bit more interest and playfulness in the bedroom. A great way to ease into this is an upholstered headboard in bold or patterned fabric. If, like me, your prefer white bed linen and walls it's a great way to add colour and texture.

C ONTRASTING NIGHTSTANDS Remember buying your bed, dresser and lockers, all in the same place as a matching set? We are all being a little more adventurous and mixing it up a little more, so our rooms don't look like a furniture catalogue. For anyone who needs a little direction, chose a fabric headboard or bed over a wood one, that way when you choose wood side tables, they don't compete with the headboard too much.

U NIQUE LIGHTING Next to the mattress, lighting is key .Choose a statement chandelier, or large pendant depending on your scheme, that is beautiful from all angles, including the bed. We are seeing a lot of wall mounted bedside lights and with the trend of an ascetic flex so they don't need to be wired in, some can be moved to direct your light - excellent if you love reading in bed, and also freeing up your bedside table.

P INK IS NOT JUST FOR GIRLS Pink made a combank with minenial pink, its a trend that has not gone anywhere but has evoled over the last number of years to more dusky hues. There are, however, a few rules for mastering this candy colour - avoid anything that vaguely reminds you of a colour Barbie would wear; blush-toned, muted pinks are the way to go. And keep finishes matt – anything shiny and pink, and you are entering six-year-old's bedroom territory!

MOODY BEDROOM

What is the best thing to do? Sleep!!!!!

Here are a few examples of recent projects to illustrate how a moody bedroom can be created.

The design brief was to create a bedroom schemes that is suitable for relaxation, reading and leisure.

The walls were painted with an olive green colour. The fabric headboard is fitted right up against the window to benefit from the morning light.

The occasional tub chair by the bed is functional for extra clothing.

The mixture of different textured cushions on the bed give a sense of warmth.

They serve a purpose during the day when taking time out.

They feel nice against the skin, especially when relaxing and reading a book.

Another key element is a good light.

This will set the ambience. As you can see from the photographs, the bedroom feels inviting and cosy.

This overall colour palette uses greens,

blue, gold and bronze in various colours.

You can see those colours in furnishings, furniture and fabrics.

The master bedroom has an autumnal colour palette. The mauve headboard has metallic beading in it. This works with the textured quilt.

A good lighting plan was key in this room. An extra bedside lamp is a good solution to ensure that there is sufficient reading light.

The en suite of the master bedroom has got dark earthy grey tiles. They give a feeling of intimacy and feel calming. This is the feeling that darker colours give, they tend to relax us. Therefore both bedroom interior design schemes are called moody.

This palette consists of mauve, copper, heather and gold.

Can't go far without using gold in the interiors in 2020.

Widely used in home Fires across Europe for many years, the bioethanol option is free of the dangers of carbon monoxide and the recent move towards renewable fuel sources means government and public are now shifting away from fossil fuel types to renewable options such as bioethanol.

Bioethanol is classified as a renewable fuel sourced from Agri biomass but more than that it is fire at the touch of a button, taking the work and hassle out of minding and cleaning a fire.

It's probably why I love a bolster cushion so much, all the style with no flffing required and a fabulous way to add colour and texture to your room.
