COWORKING PROJECT
The inspiration for this coworking space was taken from the tech company, Samsara. Samsara is a GPS tracking and shipping company that pioneered the Connected Operations Cloud, which allows businesses that depend on physical operations to harness IoT data to develop insights and improve operations. The main goal is to bring people back into a workplace where working can be collaborative. This is implemented through the hierarchy of spaces, transparencies, and, movement along multiple axes. Multiple areas to cultivate social interaction are spread throughout the spaces, creating an ecosystem of interconnectivity.

The driving concept of this coworking office is community. This is shown above in the large upstairs space through a large central kitchen, social pit, raised seating area, and an open plan to increase circulation throughout and cultivate face-to-face interactions. The central walkway creates the main circulation path, giving patrons access to both public and private areas for a variety of workspace options.

ENTRYWAY/ LOBBY
The first level of this coworking space is more of a multi-use space. The lower level includes a lobby area (as shown to the left), a large meeting space that can serve dual purpose, phone booths, a print lab, and building administration (as seen below)
ADMINISTRATION OFFICE
TECH OFFICE (2 person offices)
The second level of this coworking space is used for more private offices and more intimate social areas. The upper level includes independent entrepreneur offices (as shown on the right), hot desking, additional smaller meeting spaces, large kitchen, social pit, phone booths, and the Samsara tech offices (as seen above)

When designing this space, a sense of belonging for all is key, which is why proximity of spaces focuses on multiple levels of privacy while bringing about overlap. The counterclockwise directional flow will facilitate movement throughout the lower level and mezzanine, as well as, draw guests in to wait for their table in the lounge area. Transparency in partitions also plays a large part in defining spaces and keeping privacy where needed. The glass paneling throughout also represents the honesty within the restaurant and creates a dymaninc backdrop for the pops of color.

Inspired by the idea of “INTERSECTION,” this space aims to address the food insecurity in Floyd, Virginia, through creating administrative resources and collaboration that aid them in better addressing the needs of the community. The intersection of planes creates a distinct movement and circulation. The intersection of sound and light creates permeation and transparency, allowing for more public and private areas. The intersection of parts creates a new whole, focusing on providing a nourishing community that cultivates freshness, where everyone can have PLENTY! to eat.
Green represents growth and nature. It reflects the surrounding environment as well as reflecting the future and how Plenty can grow as an organization. Purple is an encouraging, uplifting, and creative color. It also promotes reflection and the ability to deepen one’s understanding of our thoughts. It is a great color to emphasize in the offices to allow for a space for thinking and exploration in a more personal and quiet space. Orange is cheerful and energetic color. These emotions provoked, by the color orange, often lead to a social and lively environment. That is why orange is used in the flex space that is meant for interacting with others in a less formal way.

The vision for this Skybox embraces the lively essence of indie rock music, crafting a distinctive environment where patrons can come together to immerse themselves in performances within an expressive ambiance. By juxtaposing the intensive elements of rock with the non-mainstream aspects inherent to the genre’s independence, a thin veil of overlap is created. Elements of raw material, pop-art, and harsh lines merge with softer textures and bright colors, tie into the overlap of those two contrasting ideas. Materials such as reclaimed wood, mixed metals, and a concrete look bring an industrial edge, while velvet upholstery and lighting instsallations add a touch of comfort and spontaneity, while also adding pops of color.
